The best results so far I have seen. I'm glad that I found your video. I'm also working on a grey textured backdrop, looking for very similar texture like yours. None of the youtube had achieve the kind of look i was aiming for, except yours. I also looked into some painting tutorials on mixing and layering. To me, it seems the key here is the kind of paint you use - Acrylic. Most of other used wall paint and then, just two layers of different colours. But great texture and shades/tones are basically developed by lots of slow layering and mixing and controlled brush strokes. To do that ones needs the right kind of paint. Your idea of Acrylic with more water seems to work for it well. Thanks for sharing! I will try this.
But he didn’t explain how he achieved this look.
Been watching a bunch of these videos and this is the best one so far.
Thank you!! =)
@@Letheus I agree with her, what type of paint did you use?
@@JuliusBlitzy regular acrylic artist paint
Thank you for answering our questions too!!
I agree. The best in terms of results, Really a great job! But no where in the top in terms of sharing the process and details. However, I think the important point here is he used Acrylic paint, probably with normal wall paint it might be hard to achieve the kind of texture, specially due to difficulties in mixing and layering.
you did achieve a very nice texture in the end,but i want to ask what prime you used intially and then with which colours you followed?what's the mixture ratio did you apply?maybe you should slow down the process
Hi!! Thank you!
It was primed canvas on a roll, so I did not have to prime it.
Just used the normal acrylic paints you can find in any paint-shop. Do not remember the exact specific shades or brands.
I diluted the paint with a looooot of water, like full on! It was extremely thin. Did not mix after any ratios, just winged all of it.
Hi, do you have any photos you used for the backdrops for the photoshoot?
H E L L Y E A H 🤘🏻 Great job mate. New sub here. Cheers from Western Australia 🇦🇺 👍🏻
do you have to wait until the layer dries before applying the next one? Thank you.
Hi!
I usually do not wait for them to dry in between, no. =)
Great video tutorial and best painting soundtrack! :)
Nice technique! Was your canvas primed? Doesn't look like it is wrinkling, I'm guessing keeping everything not too wet, not too heavy painted and layering while still semi-wet is key?
Love that sting at the beginning, used it for a montage intro. Little distortion tho, clipping!
Hi!! Thank you! =)
Yes, ut was primed cotton canvas on a roll from Caravaggio.
Correct, correct, correct! =D
Painting to Satriani! Very cool
👍👍👍👍
I just gave this a shot last night and can't seem to get the texture right. If my canvas wrinkled a little in the middle is it game over? The canvas doesn't look as flat as yours after drying. Can i try to repaint the same canvas or should I start over?
I thought I had diluted the paint quit a bit, but maybe not enough?
Any tips would be appreciated.
Hi!! Hit me up on Instagram or Facebook @photobylinus and send some pictures of it and I can have a look ☺
@@Letheus thank you! Just sent you a IG message! :)
Did you use water to put on the all over base color? Was this canvas primed or gessoed?
Hi! I diluted all the acrylic paint with quite a lot of water =) it was primed.
Did you just use a regular paint roller or was it some kind of faux roller?
It was a regular coarse wall-paint roller =)
@@Letheus Thanks!
Amazing back drops! Did you use a standard medium pile roller or a foam roller? Keep up the great work :)
Awesome, what colors to use and what fabric? How much did all cost together? greetings
Thanks! Normal acrylic colours from an artstore =) don't really know the how much colour I used but the piece of canvas was around 50$-ish, but that's because I bought a 10m roll =)
@@Letheus Never would have thought to use acrylic! Lovely result!
@@alidavideo thank you!! =) acrylic diluted with lots of water for easy application and blend =D
Beautiful!
Did you use primer before you started painting it?
It was already primed =)
Fantastic job!
Do you remember How much Paint did you use on this Backdrop?
Not much at all =) it was very diluted.
I really like the rendering. Personally I can’t get this almost "marbled" texture. Maybe it comes from the roll? or turn over water before
Thank you! Probably a mix of the roll, the way you roll it, how diluted the paint is and how much paint you get on the roller.
What paint did you use? Wall paint or Acrylic ?
@@THUKR wall paint
@@axellereboux Thanks for the reply. I'm also planning and doing the research to make a custom hand painted backdrop these days. As I also commented on this video, I don't believe one could achieve this artistic very deep tones and texture using wall paint. But I haven't done it myself. But prior to trying out the backdrop, I also watched lots of painting tutorials on painting backgrounds for art. The kind of deep tones and texture is mainly achieved by mixing several tones of colors, adding several layers and really mixing them. I don't believe this is possible with wall paint. In most you videos of painting photography backdrops, people just paint 2-3 layers and achieve the so called texture. But it doesn't have that deep marble like look as you say. For that, I think you need to go in layers, use different techniques, for ex. did you notice he also did use a spray bottle ? I think it was sprayed and you can get creative in several ways. But, my conclusion is it the better the authentic deep texture you want you really have to consider about your paint type. Also, i think as he did in the video to dilute Acrylic with water, otherwise you will have to break the bank :D and then develop the texture slowly. Lots of manual work gives you the best result here. Good luck! But this is only my conclusions from watching and putting together what others have done and looking at oil/acrylic painters work. Try at your own risk or search for that.
I see you are using acrylic art paint, Ive seen people do it with interior acrylic latex wall paint. with that way you can get what ever color you want mixed. But with the acrylic its a mixing project that is left up to you right?
I've been trying to find ut which paint Sarah elephant uses and I can't find anything anywhere
Ahh, yes normal acrylic art paint!
Hmm for me mixing is definitely part of the process. I see no reason to have the exact shade of a certain grey for example when doing mine.
@@Letheus Did you use a textured roller?
@@daw560 Hi!
No, actually just a normal coarse wall-paint-roller =)
@@Letheus Nice! Thanks!
Wow Great! Can it crack if you roll it?
Thanks mate!
No i store them all rolled =)
Muy bueno
Bro I love your works ... It's awesome but I need to know which type of canvas sheet and what paint material you used
Thanks mate!!
It's real cotton painters canvas on a roll from the brand caravaggio. Paint was normal acrylic paint diluted with a lot of water.
What did u use to prime
Hi! I used an already primed cotton canvas on a roll from "Caravaggio"
Is the canvas pre primed?
Hi! Yes the canvas I used was primed 👌☺️
I've been thinking about doing this, thanks!
Do it! =) please share the results, would love to see!
what type of fabric you are using
Hi it says what it is in the description ;)
It's a cotton canvas on roll from a brand called Caravaggio.
@@Letheus I ever made it but the result is very stiff and cracked
Ok hmm, did you use acrylic paint? And dilute it with a lot of water?
@@Letheus i used Dulux paint so thick and cotton cloth.
Cool stuff how many different colors or shades did you use?
Thanks!
Some! haha I just dilute it in water and experiment. Here I used white, black, grey, green (and yellow)
Final image sample missing
DUde!!! what's the name of the song playing at minutes 1:13 ??
Hey! I have absolutely no clue, it’s from RUclipss own sound library
@@Letheus haha ok, no problem great song anyway and great video as well!
Nice! What is the proportion paint/water? Thanks!!
Thanks! No science to it what so ever. I just poured it in. But ut was very diluted =)
Where my sample portrait?
Sooooon my friend, soon.
Man that was awesome, the music fit the speed of the video. This is the video I've been looking for, having a little art background I knew how it needed to be done,. Ie: adding lots of water to dilute it. You did a great job showing how to do this, and in the video production. I lost track on how many coats or colors you used, do you remember?
Haha thank you! =)
Yeah, sums up to around 10-ish very thin layers with little drying time between. Total time of painting was around 4h including the time it dried between the layers. After that I let it dry overnight hanging on a backdrop stand.
