Kari was one of the founder members of the progressive doom metal band The 3rd and the Mortal. The band was a source of inspiration for many other bands worldwide, among them Nightwish and The Gathering. After leaving The 3rd and the Mortal in 1995 she has released four solo-albums; Spindelsinn (1997), Mesmerized (1998), Pilot (2001), Other people’s stories (2004) and Time To Tell (2014). Kari’s natural talent combined with classical training and roots in the Norwegian folk music tradition has resulted in a voice that is difficult to describe.
Kari var en av de första medlemmarna av den progressiva doom metal -bandet The 3rd and the Mortal. Bandet var en inspirationskälla för många andra band i världen , bland dem Nightwish och The Gathe . Efter att ha lämnat The 3rd och Mortal i 1995 har hon släppt fyra soloalbum; Spindelsinn ( 1997) , Mesmerized ( 1998) , Pilot (2001 ) , Other People’s Stories ( 2004 ) och Time To Tell ( 2014) . Kari’s naturliga talang kombinerat med klassisk utbildning och rötter i den norska folkmusik tradition har resulterat i en röst som är svår att beskriva .

Save her celestial voice, the special thing about Kari is that she's at the same time the unpretentious "girl next door" AND an ethereal beauty, a being not quite of this crude world. Not too many women have an aura like that.

I agree. I would have never imagined that I would enjoy a version of a classic like this (which, by the way, is now about 20 years old). It has another feeling and would never replace it but it's also gorgeous. This is a excelent example of how to explore new styles and how to handle an old piece without insult it (like Theatre of Tragedy did with "and when he falleth").

Never the original will be surpassed. I got Tears Laid in Earth 20 years ago and still listening it. It´s truly masterpiece. This new pop version is ok but......

+Culver Yu Her vocals are actually slightly better on this, but the music is poop compared to the original with it's sweeping dual guitar harmonies.
Thanks for the tip, I am already mesmerized by this one, I gues this version you mention will be a sort of laic prayer as I often call such musical pieces which trancend all boundaries of the sacred and the teluric.

If you've lived with and built up a nostalgic love for the original over 20 years, I can see preferring it. But I think this one is better.
