edit: please don't purchase an axolotl or impulse buy any other pet because of this video- fish and other aquatic species are one of the most neglected of pets so please do your research - Axolotls need large tanks 20+ gal, cold water, and a very attentive owner to spot clean their tank at LEAST once a day. my goal: make a custom for every single lps base (not including the new ones and not including bases that have 1 or less designs). it’s a really good way to step out of your comfort zone and i’ve made lots of cool customs out of uncommon bases
It’s a great goal to have I might try this! I’ve been collecting damaged and already painted on pets to have all sorts of cool bases to customize already!
I'm an Axolotl nerd. Here are all the types
Wild Type Axolotl- A wildtype axolotl is a combination of green, brown and black, with speckles of shiny gold iridophore pigments. They vary somewhat in colour, some lighter or darker. It is called the wildtype, because it is the natural colour of axolotls that appear in the wild. A wildtype axolotl tends to darken with age, and can end up looking almost black.
A wildtype is distinguishable from a melanoid by the presence of iridophores, or shiny pigments. Gold shiny flecks, as well as shiny rings in the eyes mean it is a wildtype, if there are no eye rings or shiny pigments, it is melanistic.
Leucistic Axolotl- A leucistic axolotl is pink or white, with black eyes, and sometimes with black spots over the face and upper back. Leucistic are not albinos, as they have black eyes, and freckles of black pigment, some darker than others.
Plenty of leucistics have dark pigment on their face, and some along the crest of their back. This is different to a piebald.
Speckled Leucistic Axolotl-. Speckled leucistic axolotls are a type of leucistic mutation. They have dark green, brown, or black speckles on their heads, tails, and back. Like normal leucistic morphs, their base color is white, and the amount of speckling is not as extreme as it is in the piebald or mosaic morphs.
Golden Albino Axolotl-. Golden albinos range from almost pure white to peach, yellow and orange-gold. They have reflective spots and speckl es on their bodies, with white, yellow, or pink eyes. They also have peachy gills with a lighter yellow tint. They lacks Melanophores, which is what gives it an golden appearance.
White Albino Axolotl- White albinos are pure white with red gill filaments, pink or white eyes, and golden flecks on the gill stalks. Young white albinos may even be almost see-through, especially on their belly. As they grow, the iridophores on their gills become a deeper red and the rest of the body stays pure white.
This species lacks xanthophores and melanophores. They do have iridophores, but these cells are confined solely to the gills.
White albinos are very similar to leucistic axolotls, but they do not have pigment in their eyes. Because of this, white albinos are more sensitive to light and generally have poorer vision than other types of axolotl.
Axanthic Axolotl- An axanthic axolotl is a morph that lacks xanthophores. (Xanthophores are what produce a yellow pigment in the skin). This gives them a cooler appearance. They also do not have iridophores.
Melanoid Axolotl-. Homozygous dominant and heterozygous axolotls develop normal iridophores, which means they are able to produce crystallized purines (the shiny white pigment). Homozygous recessive axolotls are called melanoids.
The lower amount of pteridines makes melanoid axolotls appear almost blue under certain wavelengths.Melanoid" means the animal has more dark pigment and no iridophores, which only means "black" if the animal doesn't also carry two albino and/or two leucistic genes.
Black Melanoid Axolotl- Black melanoids have a dark or black body with a lighter-colored belly. They lack the shiny ring around the pupil of the eyes and they have no shiny patches (iridophores) anywhere on their bodies. Sometimes a dark wild type axolotl is mistakenly identified as a black melanoid.
Copper Melanoid Axolotl- There is a very rare breed which is called the Copper Melanoid Axolotl. They are black with copper stripes, but they are very difficult to get hold of, so you will have to search through lists of breeders to get one of these rare breeds.
Copper Axolotl- Copper axolotls are a special type of albino. They come in a range of copper, some quite light and some darker (see above photo). They have a slightly reddish eye. We divide them into two groups; "light coppers" and "coppers." Het coppers are heterozygous for copper.
Green Fluorescent Protein Axolotl- GFP (standing for green fluorescent protein) look like any morph at first glance. However, once exposed to UV light, they glow a bright fluorescent green. This trait is invisible in normal lighting but is unmistakable in UV light. Those with lighter skin glow brighter, as in albino or leucistic.
The green fluorescent protein gene is originally found in jellyfish and was introduced into the axolotl genome artificially. This morph was created by researchers at the Max Planck Institute in 2005 to study cellular movement and cancer.
Silver Dalmatian/Lavender Axolotl-. The silver Dalmatian Axolotl also called The lavender axolotl has a light, silvery purple hue with grayish-red gills and black eyes. Their body is also covered in gray spots, giving them their silver Dalmatian name!
Some lavender species can take on a gray or green color as they age, but most remain purple. Lavender melanoid hybrids are also bred and have a darker purple color with no spots. However, this color combination is very rare.
Lavender morphs have only been bred a few times and are found mainly in the United States. Its soft purple color and polka-dotted appearance make them highly desirable, despite their rarity.
Piebald Axolotl-. Piebald. Piebalds are white with red gills, black eyes, and dark green, gray, or black symmetrical patches on their face and back. ... The piebald gene is heritable but very rare, and most breeders are located in New Zealand. This pattern darkens as the axolotl ages and can lead to a black and white salamander.
Mosaic Axolotl- Mosaic axolotls are mottled with black, white, and golden flecks. They may also have gills that are striped red and purple, and multicolored eyes. Most mosaics are a combination of melanistic and albino parents.
They are the result of two eggs fusing into one. Instead of being split down the middle, each cell displays colors from either parent randomly. This results in a beautiful and one-of-a-kind axolotl color.
Mosaics cannot be bred for and are happy accidents. They are rare and not usually sold, though they may be available on occasion.
Chimera Axolotl-Chimeras show one morph on one side of their body and another morph on the other half. It is split right down the middle into left and right halves. The few chimeras that have hatched are half albino and half wild-type. Chimera axolotls only occur when two developing eggs fuse together into one.
Enigma Axolotl-. The Enigma morph is dark gray with a white belly and toes, pale red gills, and golden eyes. It is covered in shiny golden patches that appear green from certain angles. This one-of-a-kind axolotl was first discovered by a breeder in the United States. It is a wild type axolotl with a high number of iridophores.
Firefly Axolotl- Firefly axolotls are an artificially created morph developed by Lloyd Strohl. ... They are darkly colored wild-type axolotls with green fluorescent protein albino tails. They are called “fireflies” because only part of the body will glow under a blacklight.

I've never seen customs before, I'm glad this channel was my introduction, because wow these are nice!
I'm a proud owner of a GFP axie I reared from a juvenile, they are a LOT of work in upkeep, but so so so worth it. But seriously, don't buy an axolotl if you're not ready for cleaning a lot of under water poop worms, because I guarantee you'll be sucking digested blood worms and earth worms out of the tank at LEAST once a day
My Remi started out as a tiny little one no bigger than the top half of my pinkie, half a tail, missing some gills, no limbs at all because he was being picked at by his tank mates
He grew into a giant sea monster, and he's only 4 months! He's MASSIVE. Huge gills, long flowwy tail, all his limbs are back, he's in his own 20L tank for now and he'll be moving into a 50 as he grows :D
I try to keep his water perfect and feed him once a day! I'm obsessed with these guys!

There is golden albino, melanoid, copper, leusitic also known as the pink axolotl, axanthic, melanoid axanthic copper(MAC), white albinos. Then there's a mix between several of those. It's amazing to see axolotls get recognized for something other than Minecraft. I think you did an amazing job at recreating them. Also the things on the side of their heads are called their gills :)
