You guys were hilarious in this one. I am about ready to drop in my bb countertop and now I am freaking out! Only the sink hole to cut and now I am thinking not doing the undercount after watching this and Trent and Allie.
haha thanks Greg! I think if you use a hole saw on the 4 corners it should be much smoother. We tried to keep the center cutout for a "lid" and the jigsaw blade bent too much around the corners
Great video and thanks for the inspiration on my van build ... my cabinets are next and I just got a butcher block top. Hope it turns out as nice as yours!
It turned out good and that’s what matters! Again thanks for always making some of the best Van build videos!
As always Thank you Sherry!!! And thank you for the continued support we really appreciate it!
I'm definitely doing a drop in sink :)
haha it was a challenge but it's doable!
A proper saw is almost a must have if you want a cut in thick butcher block that is on display. I would have probably used a router to clean the cuts up though. Takes a while but it would have been a cleaner looking result.
yea I couldn't agree more but oh well, I will save that technique for next time!!
Most sources I have seen say not to use glue or adhesive to install butcher block so it can expand and contract without cracking or warping.
I wish I knew that ahead of time!!! We’ll see how it holds up
@@MathersOnTheMap I almost did the same thing, but have made plenty of mistakes along the way. What I am realizing is that by the time I am done, I could do a really good job if I had it to do over again! It looks like you did a nice job sealing it, so hopefully that helps keep it stable.
Haha I couldn’t agree more!!! There’s a few projects I can think of and I look back and ask myself “why did I do it that way, what was I thinking”. but it’s all good that’s how we learn...If we do another van in the future it’s going to be a lot easier!
@@MathersOnTheMap any issues with expansion and contraction yet?
How is the fire safety for gas burner and wooden countertop? Will it catch on fire if the burner is too hot?
I guess it could technically happen? But wooden counter tops and gas burners have been used together for a verrrry long time
What sink size you went for? Are you happy with it?
Good stuff!! I couldn't find what stove top and sink you bought. Which ones are they?
What fridge are you guys using?
Domestic crx 110
Thanks for sharing. This helps so much. Just to double check did you polyurethane it before you cut out for the sink and all that??
You got it! Poly after cutting 👍🏻
@@MathersOnTheMap thanks so much.
@@MathersOnTheMap do you have to do both sides of the wood or just the top? I can’t find any info on that.
@@bridgesadventures we did both sides… rather safe than sorry
@@MathersOnTheMap ok thanks so much. Y’all are the best
Thanks for all of your videos... they are helping SO much!! Question about your countertop... What depth did you go with for your countertop? (You mentioned your cabinets where 20"deep), do you feel your space in your kitchen is too narrow? Or does it work well? Lastly, could you link your stovetop? I'd love to purchase this one! Thank you!!!
Thanks Krista! It may be 21 inches in depth? Because our cabinet doors and drawer frames are 3/4 inch thick which gives us an overlay of about 1/4 inch.
Stove top is amzn.to/2KBd0h3 I’ll add to description.
Thank you!
I saw a vid where someone cut out and sunk an induction stove top into the countertop so you could put a piece over it when your not using...extra countertop space. I assume you could do the same with a gas top.
We were planning on using the butcher block as a kid for the sick, maybe I’ll still do that 🤷🏻♂️ butcher block isn’t easy to cut clean that’s the only issue
Hey, I’ve got a couple of questions. 1. What propane cooktop did you buy? And 2. Have you guys had any problems with it since you’ve been out west at elevation? Thanks
Hey there!
Here’s our affiliate link to our cooktop! Stovetop: amzn.to/2KBd0h3
No problems with our cook top setup. Did have some freezing issues in west Yellowstone -8° tho!
I hate jig saw, impossible to achieve a straight cut because the blade bends. Barely acceptable in thin material only...
Yep we learned the hard way!! haha
