Biggest downside is definitely the size of the gas tank, first thing I'm going to do once I can afford one of these bikes is find a way to mount a jerry can in place of one of the saddlebags

"Domestic suppliers" is misleading. For one thing the DID chain is made in Japan. Not that it matters, just saying.

Unique but pretty expensive for a scooter.

I don't disagree, but I haven't found another that checks: Made In America, looks like an old bike, fixes like an old bike(no computers needed to fix a carb!), etc... I had thought about a Zero Electric, the models I was looking at had the same range and price but between taxes on electric, and the charge time I decided to go with this.

I was fool enough to spend over 10K on the Janus 250. Worst purchase decision I've ever made. Frankly, Janus bikes are pure garbage. The selling point is the attractive, vintage look and the company's small town, made-in-America, persona. It's all phony. These videos are made by Janus employees or paid hacks. The bike can barely top 40mph. Dangerously slow. The gas tank holds less than 2 gallons. The lack of rear suspension makes the ride a torture. Nothing but repair after repair. I've bought a Royal Enfield 350 and It's a welcome pleasure. All I can do is park the Janus in my garage and let it rot. It's too much of a pain to try to sell it. And, I don't want to pass this crap on to some unsuspecting buyer. Don't even think of buying anything from Janus. Take my advice. I learned it the hard way.

I'm sorry yours didn't meet your expectaitions. This video disproves the can't do ove 40 comment as the speedo and the other bikes confirm I'm doing 60.
Build quality has been acceptable to me no major issues. I hardly find the hardtail to be torture and I've been on some rough pavement and gravel. As for the tank size they don't really make that a secret, you knew it had a small tank when you bought it.
