    I’ve said it a thousand times. Madonna is a serious artist. They want to minimize her to an 80’s pop hitmaker with an average voice.

    Yes girl, you hit the nail on the head that us Madonna fans have been trying to tell the ignorant masses for years. She truly is an artist that goes deep and draws inspiration from other artists. So much of her work has other meanings etc. Everyone got so caught up in the whole Material Girl nonsense and Sex controversy that they couldn’t see past it, and still can’t to this day.

    Agree that artists today are not this deep and intellectual. Madonna is a very educated, cultured woman and it shows in her liveshows, lyrics and videos as well. Always a joy to watch her interviews, we love a smart woman.

    I love the Bedtime Stories era and i also love it got kind of extended by the Something To Remember era in late 1995. I am sad we didn't get a Bedtime Stories tour, as that would have been amazing, as i love that album so much and she looked amazing. It was not until 2001 until she went on a world tour again but at least we get loads of performances in between and some amazing albums and even a huge movie for her including soundtrack.

    Hi Empress - Hair looks good! Madonna reading the childrens' book is probably the most cringe moment of her career lol! Normally MTV would replay live shows like this like 10 times after it aired, but for this one they only showed the rerun like 2 or 3 times over the next week or so. I think they wanted to spare Madonna the embarrassment 😁. The one part I wish you had watched was at the very end when she came out and danced with the crowd, as promised. Pretty sure she wore another different outfit for that part.

    ✨📖✨ The music industry in general, and pop in particular, has changed so much in terms of how people become famous, and how much their appeal is about their own innate qualities beside talent. The qualities of intelligence, grit, determination and worldliness in order to get there and stay there have been replaced by stars who function more as willing employees of the record companies than as self-propelling artists who use the record companies to help their own message reach the world. I hope the strangle hold the record companies have over music, composed formulaically by whole rooms of writers to hit the algorithmic demands of an impatient social media culture, and more artists emerge who bring real uniqueness to the table. RAYE is a great example of a new artist who has her own things to say in her own work. There are others of course, but overall contemporary pop music is extremely ho-hum and shallow.
    I love how Madonna INSISTS on reading her dorky children’s book to everyone, defying their rowdy expectations and just being that great little bossy-boots she’s always been. I can feel her blood boiling as she fumes, and the moment turns out a mess instead of the communing with simple wisdom she’d hoped for, yet she perseveres. That’s CHARACTER. Doing something as incredibly cool as the Bedtime Story video, and deciding she was going to share this sweet story with her fans. No surprise that it’s a fable about not judging a powerful, intimidating female character on what you’ve heard about her… Madonna has always gotten a lot of flack, but the general public sunk to epic new lows in their vitriol following her Erotica era… I also love that this moment resulted in one of my favourite Madonna gifs 😂 Her sitting on the bed in her satin pajamas giving casual sass with those finger snaps.
    💥
    🫰
    Another reflection on the music industry… Mariah holds the record for most number 1 hits in the USA, but Madonna absolutely TORCHES that record if you include worldwide number 1s. Mariah’s run of number 1s is also a reflection of her marriage to Tommy Mottola, head of Sony Music, throughout the 90s and into the 2000s even after they separated. Her singles would routinely be discounted to 49 cents, and displayed at the record store counter to encourage impulse purchases that caused a steep spike in sales. Often songs that were languishing would suddenly clime the charts because of this point of sale discount strategy. I like Mariah, I think she’s very talented, but her US number 1s record is partially the result of market manipulation. The literal receipts aren’t difficult to find online.
    We’d all love a big Madonna documentary… or docuseries… but I’m completely on board with her co-writing and directing a biopic of her own life. I want ART from Madonna. We can find endless documentary and interview content, but her own vision of her life, expressed through cinematic art… THAT will be interesting. I’m not saying it will be entirely successful creatively or commercially, but it MIGHT be… and even her putting her heart and soul into directing it, being the excellent director she has already proven herself to be, will be worth the experience.
    To end on a fun note… BONUS for us, getting to see you react to the Faye Trailer in real time!

    • @EmpressReacts
      @EmpressReacts  3 месяца назад

      😂 the Faye trailer took me by surprise but was a high after “dealing” with this crowd.
      Wow so I have heard of the $.99 cent records pre-iTunes but I thought that meant the record was trash 🗑️. Interesting- so are you saying that Mariah’s career is one big marketing manipulation?
      And it’s so weird today. With all the freedom artists have to express themselves thru various mediums and say what they want in their music they are more faker than they were in the 60s/70s 🤯. They don’t need record labels, but they think the need to catch the algorithm

    • @petersavieri
      @petersavieri 3 месяца назад

      @@EmpressReactsAnd tastes are built on what new artists are hearing on the algorithm, which is driven so much by the money side of the record business controlling the talent and the music based on the algorithm, so everything starts to sound formulaic and homogenised 🌀
      I’m not saying Mariah’s entire success is market manipulation. She’s had several genuine smash hits without the 49c point of purchase discount, but her career began flagging in the mid 90s, so many of her number ones actually received little radio or video play, and wouldn’t have gotten beyond the top 40 or 20 without that discount strategy
      Madonna never received that push. She did bundle albums into ticket sales on a couple of tours in her later career, but that’s still just providing the fans with what they actually want
      It’s the reason why Madonna’s big hits are recognisable to most people, let alone the recognition factor for The Beatles’ many big songs, whereas Mariah’s genuinely unforgettable big hits can be counted on one hand, while the others are a bit 🤔🤥

    This was a mess but also kind of a life imitates art moment; she’s telling a story about someone who can’t get anyone to pay attention to her because no one understands her. And then its happening right there as she speaks
