*COMPONENTS* - As I mentioned in the review, everything is pretty great, except when it's time to reset the campaign. One other minor complaint... several of the life spinners for bosses were SUPER loose in my copy, which was mildly annoying.

Its actually easier to reset than looking at the small numbers on the bottom left. The reset guide (List of where cards come from) has the name of the abilities, so you can just use that instead.
I tried to click on that from their webpage, and it led to a broken link, so sadly that didn't help me out. But I got it reset eventually :)
Recently finished KC two-player and we had a lot of fun with it. The campaign definitely didn’t outstay its welcome and we played 19 of 21 scenarios I think. Resetting the cards is a MAJOR job but not unpleasant. We generally had luck on our side on the token draws but the fate tokens allow you to mitigate the randomness somewhat when you need to, by drawing four tokens and choosing one. And the card boost mechanic means you are usually involved throughout, especially at the two player count. Last, we found the timing of ending your hand, activating your lantern card and drawing a replacement hand is a nice mini game. Overall, we had a really good time and I’d highly recommend it.
My daughter and I loved Kinfire Chronicles. We only played it in December last year, but it would have been our favourite game of 2023. We completed the campaign in 5 days as my daughter kept wanting to play the next scenario as soon as we finished the last one.
That’s amazing!
💯 agree! We played it all 2 player and I could not imagine trying to rest the game. It was fun, we only lost once due to initiative randomness, fun experience but it's a 1 and done for me.
Thanks so much for your review!
Great job on all the Kinfire properties so far!
Thanks Mike!
What a coincidence. I just started playing this game .I've finished the first scenario, and I'm taking a lunch break :D
Been playing yhrough this with some friends. It has been a blast. A minor plus i woupd add, is that it has one of the best representations of a bard class inhave seen in a game.
The bard is super fun for sure
What about house-ruling the initiative somehow? Even removing it completely or something, and ignore / repurpose cards that deal with the bag. Might be a lot of hustle, but it's kinda sad if the game would sink only due to 1 issue
I houseruled it for 4 players with my family. It was a bit wonky, because not all effects still worked as intended, but yeah it mostly fixed the game at higher player counts for us
Based on your experience, how easy do you think it would be to switch characters between scenarios partway through the campaign? I'm someone who gets bored playing the same character for more than ~5 scenarios in a row, and it doesn't sound like I'd want to replay the entire 21-scenario campaign just to try new characters.
It’s not too bad. Pretty much all unlocked cards are non-character specific, so you could just take all those cards and upgrade the new character.
I've trying to buy this for a year now...
It’s an optional buy in the current kinfire council Kickstarter. Not sure if that helps
As a solo player which would you choose for a next buy - Tales from Red Dragon Inn, this Kinfire game or Agemonia?
Well, since agemonia is one of my favorite games from this year so far, and red dragon was my favorite from last year, I’d say one of those. Agemonia is focused on story and exploration, and red dragon is all combat, so between the two it’ll depend on what kind of game you’re looking for.
kinfire is fun but does not match the level of excellence of those other two, at least for my tastes!
They are all amazing games. I'd say for a really light but fun dungeon crawler go for red dragon inn. Agemonia is amazing as well although more of a table hog and a bit heavier than red dragon inn. Kinfire Chronicles is more like a boss battler with some story.
that initiative bag flat out kept me from backing it. once i saw how that worked, i quit looking. glad it did pretty well overall though
Yeah the initiative system is very much a… choice 😅
How do you compare to tainted grail kings of ruin?
Completely different types of game in almost every way. Tainted Grail is a zoomed out adventure game focused on narrative reading and exploration, with a quick card-based system for combat. Kinfire Chronicles is primarily a dungeon crawler/boss battler, focused mainly on tactical combat, with quick adventure phases in between. They are almost totally different genres of games :)
The only pro for me in this game was the card play, that's the heart of the game. But the rest is such a mixed bag or just a straight con. Setup is easy, until you have to punch out tokens every time and the cards have fallen out of their flimsy packaging. I'd rather have just punched everything out once in the beginning and had a scenario book or something. Also, the health trackers fall apart so easily that I was using trackers from a different game. Maybe I never got far enough into it to where the deck building got interesting but there were only ever a few cards that I really wanted to add, and then when you're playing 3 handed solo figuring out if you constructed the deck right becomes very annoying and really slows down the experience. I also again never finished the story, but I found it to be very superficial like if the story part of the game was just there to check a box. In a world with soooooo many great games, this is just another good game
I share and mentioned basically all of your concerns. Yes, decks become stronger and more interesting late game, but they are never not annoying to put together. The story does get quite a bit better. And yeah, the way they organized everything is a mixed bag, and I agree that a book would have been more easily usable.
@@OneStopCoopShop yeah my comment was definitely not a knock on your review, just sharing my opinion, maybe to justify that I sold the game before finishing the campaign, but in the end when I look at similar games in my collection I'd rather pull out Oathsworn or Agemonia every time
@@josephciancio2282 can't argue with that, those are both amazing!
