Great play on B8. I also play X of 1NT by a passed hand as the majors. I went after diamonds first to find out which minor W was singleton in, when he turned up with two diamonds, the club finesse became risk less.

Bd.#8 Won the heart lead in hand to play diamonds first so as to have a lock on clubs later. But of course east shot a spade back and there's no squeeze now.Only 11 tricks but I got the clubs right!

On the board where you went one down in 4 spades, board 4, Why not play ace clubs, trump a club, trump to draw the last trump.... and 10 tricks.

because diamonds are blocked. I would lose a spade, 2 hearts and something else because I can't win the final trick because I can't get to the diamonds.

      basically I would get 4S, 1H, 1C, 3D for 9 tricks.

I found another way to make 3NT on board 3. I won the diamond lead in hand and played a spade to the 9 which held, then a low spade from dummy to the Q and K (East pitching a heart). West then continued the 10 of spades so I had 9 tricks. I thought running the diamonds would allow the robots to work out what was going on!

    1. 4S= 71% Same bid, same line....
    2. 4H+1 100% Same bid, Same line
    3. 3n-1 64% Same bid, same line
    4. 4S-1 14% I bid 3S instead of 3H after NMF
    5. 4SW 57% Same bidding. Led a spade after K of H as I saw too much risk in a club return (I don't usually think about best hand implications)
    6. 4S-1 18% Same I screwed up as you discussed.
    7 3N+1 46% I opened 1 NT. Should have retained club entry....
8 3N 32% Just straight up misplayed it.
50%.....annoyed that I through away the last 2 boards.

Hand 2: The way you played you should be held to 10 tricks. After the club lead, play 3 rounds of spades ditching a club then play hearts which caters for singleton Ace in the East hand

Board 1: I didn’t appreciate quite how weak partner’s response sequence was, so I ended up in 5S, going down.
Board 2: I didn’t get the Diamond switch, so making exactly.
Board 3: Made luckily when, after running Diamonds, I played a low S from dummy, won the SA and then W switched to the HK after getting in with a spade.
    Board 4: Same.
    Board 5: Same.
    Board 6: Missed the overtrick.
Board 7: Played 6D=. I opened 1N. Partner bid 3C, transferring to 3D, and then bid 3N, after which I cue-bid 4C. That was enough to get partner to bid Blackwood and then 6D.
Board 8: I didn’t find the squeeze, so just +2.

Is "Don't trump in the long hand" a general guideline or specific to Board 4 where you needed trumps for entries? If it's a general guideline could you explain why? I know in other videos you've often said you like to plan the hand from the side with the most trumps, rather than always planning it from the declarer's hand.

If you just cash all your trumps you will win all the trumps in the long hand. If you trump in the long hand you aren't generating tricks usually. If you trump in the short hand you will get all the trumps in the long hand +1 per time you trump in the short hand so you are generating more tricks.
