Jason, your review was one of the ones I watched before I bought the Giant. I had an HR* 8* that really was not playing well (some idiot probably tried to reface and ruined it), anyway, I talked to Jody on the phone and he suggested I try the Giant. By sheer weird coincidence a music store in my area had the Giant and so I went to try it, and I bought it. This thing is crazy, its everything I want in a piece. It's a darker mouthpiece but it also has a lot of brightness if i need it. The resonance I get from this is unbelievable. Thanks for the great review!
Wow, I was 20 pounds lighter in this video 😂. I am so glad you got something good out of it! I actually ended up switching to a giant and played on it for about a year. I have zero complaints, it’s a great mouthpiece. Definitely a great cross between metal and hard rubber. I ended up switching to a jumbo Java because it has a high baffle and small chamber which is great for me plain these wedding gigs.
@@bluessax5089 For sure man, I had a T55 JJ but man it was way too small i think, i lent it to someone but never got it back. I have an A45 Jumbo Java for alto I used before I got an older Beechler S6S. Yeah the Giant just does everything my V16 does, just even better!
The Giant sounds great it articulates with more accuracy and speaks really well especially on the higher notes. It complements your voice very well. God bless
Rob Stutchbury thank you very much! Believe it or not, weeks after i posted this video, I went back to the Jody jazz giant and it’s all I play now. I LOVE the sound!!
Great sound on all pieces really. Really nice! I have a Giant 8* along with some rubber pieces. Like speech we sax players have vowels and consonants in our playing and I hear more consonants with the Giant than my rubber pieces. More sizzle maybe? I hear the same from you with the Giant. That is something I like in my sound, but something that maybe someone else may not like. I like the resistance too. I have found that when I do play the Giant people have commented more on the sound then when I play another piece. Thanks for the comparison!
Alan Klingaman thank you so much and I’m sorry for not replying sooner. Your review caused me to listen even more and I agree that the Giant sounds much clearer in comparison. I’ve sold my giant on eBay and actually rebought another Giant 8!! 😂😂. I played it once and it was hard to hear myself but I think I just need to live with it more.
The HR is a masterpiece< i think Jody Jazz has a gem and they are constantly trying to build the next great product off the best already. As you say good ole faithful...great playing on both either way!
thanks you so very much, I'm often frustrated with my playing but i do have fun with it! I played the Jody Giant for about 4 months then switched back to the Hr. Now im digging the Jumbo Java vandoren.
Nice comparison. To my ear, the giant sounded more 'fluffy' and spread; the HR focused and direct. Btw; you must be the only sax musician left on the planet who doesn't use a tooth pad on your piece.... Respect :))
Wow! So crazy to revisit this video, I was like 30 pounds lighter back then 🤣😭🤣. I ended up switching over to the giant for about 4 to 5 months and then switching back to the HR. Right before the pandemic began i switched over to the Vandoren Jumbo Java T75 which serves me perfectly. I also religiously use a tooth guard sense playing the giant. Thanks so much for the observation! Be well, my friend
Thanks so very much! I skipped around a bit after this video. I actually played the giant for 5 months, switched back to Jodyjazz HR then Vandoren Jumbo Java and now I’m with Syos. The cool thing with Syos is you can make any mouthpiece you like
it sounds the same in front of the horn, its not so fat behind it through. I'm still playing with it some. who knows? maybe ill be able to use it after all. thanks for checking out my review
Subtle details that prob only you would notice... I did hear the facility in bending when you used your normal mouthpiece... Both sounded great though!
Patrick Thames believe it or not, I played the giant for 4 months. It’s a master blaster but lacks the nuance that the JodyJazz hr possesses,....so I switched back to my lil stanky
Playing a new piece once doesn’t really give you the time needed to adapt. I thought you spoke better on the Giant, it broadens your tone and added more depth to the harmonics.
So right you are Rick, I ended up switching to the giant two weeks later. I have been playing the basic JodyJazz for about six years and I guess I’ve grown attached. It took about a good month to get used to the giant because it is in fact a metal mouthpiece. I switched again a couple of months ago to the Jumbo Java T75 Which is probably the best mouthpiece I’ve played so far
JGSAX Interesting! I actually played on the Jumbo Java T75 quite awhile but was just huntin’ for something ‘more’ if that makes sense and then came across Jody’s series. I have the DV CHI 7* which suits me fine but then for some things I wanted that deeper big chested sound and tried the Giant 8*. Took a bit to adapt but I love it now and still switch between it and the DV CHI. I can hear how you’d like the Java. It speaks well, gives you full range and has plenty of power. Enjoy!
Rick Stokes To be honest, I can see myself playing pretty much any of Jody Espina’s pieces. I did reviews on the DV, custom dark, and the standard HR and honestly love them all. A friend of mine let me try his jumbo Java and I instantly fell in love. There was pretty much no adjustment time needed. It felt comfortable from the first day, which is surprising to me because it has an extremely high baffle. But I also play a lot of wedding gigs and rock ‘n’ roll and such so it’s nice to have something that really cuts through. If I had to choose another piece I would probably go with the JodyJazz DV.
Aw shucks! I played the giant for about eight months after this video then I switched over to the jumbo Java t75. I did a video on that as well. I generally play with a lot of loud guitarists, and drummers so I needed a freaking mouth cannon!

Good review. Your own mouthpiece sounds WAY BETTER!!!!
Man, I really really appreciate that! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

I have one of these mouthpieces, is amazing and great sound, it's my favorite.
I played it for 5 months and thoroughly enjoyed it! Thanks so much for watching!! 👍🏽
Both sounds great, but the HR sounds better and has more body 👍
i recently switched to the giant. lol i wasn't blowing hard enough
Great review, sir! I loved the honest feedback

You have a wonderful tone. I'm guessing the mouthpiece only has a minor effect.

sounds good, but i have found that you have to play new mp's a few days.....first impressions fool ya sometimes lol. Old Faithful sounds great though
I went back-and-forth for about a week, then sold the giant, then bought another Giant, then played if for 4 months, then bought the Jumbo Java. 😂
JGSAX wow, lol!
Ciao ....gia' ci siamo sentiti tempo fa ....volevo sapere che ance usi per il Giant ? Vandoren Java ? Rigotti?
I’m so sorry, I don’t see how I can translate this message. I now play the Vandoren Jumbo Java. 🙌🏽💯🎷
Probably after a few weeks with the giant you would play like with the HR.
send me the Giant 😁😁😁
Lol, I flipped that piece looong ago 😉
The GIANT!
A really fun mouthpiece!

@@bluessax5089 Glad you found your bliss. Only time will tell for how long! Gig well my friend.
Nothing beats the stank juice
i aint never warshing it!! that stankness gotta stay!
The Giant wins
