I am north of you, in Collingwood, so I'm very happy to hear what works for you in zone 4/5. It's very soothing to hear your voice and see the lovely videos of your roses in these crazy times.

    Lichfield angel looks incredibly beautiful. I have seen this one in several garden centres near me and noted that its blooms are mostly facing downwards and nodding rather than upright like yours. I hope if I buy this rose it will look as lovely as your ones. Your garden is a simply divine and has really helped to give me some ideas for my own garden so thank you very much.

    Hi Tracy! I just want to say that your garden is beautiful. I'm also in the GTA and was wondering if you knew which nurseries usually carry DA roses or take pre-orders (for 2022)? I'm looking for Evelyn, Litchfield Angel, and Queen of Sweden specifically. I'm debating if I should just pay more and order straight from DA or wait until next year to see what the nurseries have. Would love your advice! Thank you!

      Hi,
      In Toronto, You can get them ordered at Sheridan nursery. DA roses sell out rather quickly so you should call them to find out when they start to take orders for spring. I got some of my DA roses from VANDERMEER in Ajax and Cannon nursery also carry them as well. All the best. 💚

    I don’t understand why the need for all large flowers. A large flower is beautiful. A small flower is beautiful. Cecile Brunner is one of the most beautiful flowers. The buds are adorable.

    • @TracysHomeGarden
      @TracysHomeGarden  3 года назад +1

      I think people sometimes prefer larger blooms because they are more showy from a distance? Especially if they have large garden beds that they cannot simply walk to see the roses up close? I’m not sure but just a thought. I think for me...I like so many roses for so many reasons: the way the petals form, the scent that appeals to me (may not be the same for others), etc... I just checked out Cecile Brunner rose photos , they are super adorable & abundant in blooms! So I think this rose is a winner as well...whatever it doesn’t have in size it returns with the huge abundant amount of blooms! I saw a photo of the climber on a fence board. It is stunning 🤩!
      Ps. Sometimes what I plant is also limited by my climate and garden zone as well...or the native soil situation I have in my garden. My last garden, every hybrid rose would die even though I protected them. 🧐🥺
      Thank you so much for watching!

      The Lichfield Angel is actually hardy to zone 4....it’s very hardy compared to Evelyn and Rose-Marie. To get them well established during the first year, I would be sure to protect them in their 1st winter with a rose collar filled with mulch. Happy gardening!
      Ps. I secretly wish I had more space for a DA rose garden as well. 💚🙏🪴

      Thank you Joycelyn!
      I usually start with a soap spray made with some vinegar and baking soda. If things don’t improve then I consider using an insecticidal soap. Most of the time the homemade soap spray works.. but I do have to spray the roses more often …like every 2 days or so.

    I have Eglantyne and it does grow taller and fills out well but i was a bit disappointed in the color in that i was expecting a pink tinted rose but its mainly pale beige in general.. it will become vigorous however w/age..the scent is lighter than i expected also......I have Munstead Wood and its the first season for it and yet its producing so many branches(heavily thorned) the density of the bush is thick w/.leaves for the first year. there are some buds forming now (May 20th) and Im looking forward to a highly fragrant rose..I must admit that I use David Austin's for fragrance primarily...Thanks for your videos...Bob

      @TracysHomeGarden  3 года назад

      Munstead Wood is a beautiful DA rose Bob. Our growing season is usually short so I usually don't see the roses grow to their maximum size. However, due to our unusual past mild winter and warmer spring, I'm noticing that they are a lot fuller than previous years. I also notice some mature buds on my DA roses. Its all very exiting for me as well....I also admit that I love the fragrance on my DA roses...it's especially strong in the evening when I like to spend time in the garden. :-)

      Yes, in our garden zone 5/6, roses do best with 6hours or more of sun. You may be able to get away with 4-6 hours of intense afternoon sun but it may not bloom as prolific.

    Hey Tracy, I really love your channel and have been watching many of your videos. May I ask how to you over winter your DA roses? I just purchased a few this year and not sure if they will survive our winter. I'm in your area as well. Thank you in advance.

    • @TracysHomeGarden
      @TracysHomeGarden  2 года назад +1

      Hi Zoe,
      If we live in the same area then I say our DA roses will most definitely be okay. I used to protect them with a some compost but I have not done that for the last 4-5 seasons and they have done okay. Last summer many of the canes on the DA roses survived and we had one of the best roses season that I could remember (due to the mild winter of 2020-2021). This year almost all my roses had to came back from the ground (cane dead) but they all survived considering we had a more harsh winter 🥶 than usual. The only thing to remember is to plant the roses 2-3 inches below the soil surface (of the can) to make sure the grafted area is below the soil level so if we get a bad winter like the previous the roses could still come back for us. Hope that makes sense. Happy gardening Zoe! 💚🙏💚

    • @TracysHomeGarden
      @TracysHomeGarden  3 года назад +1

      Hi Yikai,
      The eglantyne roses have just come out of dormancy. Our past winter was relatively "warmer" than usual and so there is very little die back (even though I did not use any protection). Currently, hey are leafing out. We had some cool weather and little sun (April showers) this past week and the next week and so they haven't grown much yet...I'm hoping the weather will be more sunny in the next few weeks so they can start forming buds. I will be sure to update these roses once the garden looks more "green". Thank you so much for watching Yikai! :-)
