Hall & Oates are a great pop rock duo who had their biggest success in the 70's-80's. They had a lot of great hits such as "Sara Smile", "Rich Girl", Kiss On My List", "Private Eyes", "I Can't Go For That", "Maneater", "You Make My Dreams", "Family Man", "Say It Isn't So", "Method Of Modern Love" etc.
Sara Smile , Rich Girl , I Can't go for that, Maneater, Kiss is on My List,Private Eyes so many love them!! Watch Daryl's House with the OJays it will blow you away!!
You stepped in it now, Steven. Idk a lot about them except they were putting out one hit after another back in the day. Top of the charts, radio play, you name it. Daryl has a channel called Daryl's house, I think is the name, but he has a full studio in it and he has the greatest musicians and singers from all genres stop by and jam with him! It's incredible how many legends this guy can get to his beautiful crib. The studio version of this song is much fuller than this, also. Horns included. But it didn't look like there was a lot of room on that stage for any more people. 😬😬 Rabbit hole↘
Up next….. “Sara Smile”! These guys were still rockin and rollin together till a couple of year’s ago, when Rock and Roll finally Rock and Rolled them. It’s a sad divorce ever since. I wish they would look at this and remember they were special. Check our “Daryl’s House” it’s a series Daryl started a bunch of years ago bringing in and singing with all kinds of music artists. Eventually opening his own club called “Daryl’s House” in Pawling New York. Phenomenal on every front!
Daryl Hall and John Oats. Awesome guys and song writers.! Songs : Rich Girl, You make my Dreams Come True, Maneater, I cant go for that, Private Eyes and many more.
This band is absolutely smokin'! Top shelf musicians played with Hall and Oates...they demanded it and their songs demanded it. Very underrated by the gen public since most of their numerous hits are very pop/rock. Remember they had 4 or 5 #1 songs in 70"s /80's.
If you ever get into a one hit wonder segment, you got to check out a song called moonlight feels Right. And check out the solo. Pop music at its finest in the '70s.
Hall and Oates was one of the greatest acts to ever hit the music scene! They were at the top of the charts with almost every hit. They were actually at the top of their game when they just disappeared. One of their biggest songwriting partners was Daryl Hall's sister-in-law, and when she passed away from cancer, it devastated him. They were always reinventing themselves, and their music was always unique with great harmonies.
Just for fun in your spare time you should check out Live from Darryl’s House. He gets together to jam with other famous musicians. It’s pretty cool !!
You could release a double album of just their US top 10 hits (16). These guys were a hit factory in the 80s. Check out literally any guest artist on Darryl Hall's show "Live From Darryl's House". I genuinely can't think of a bad episode or performance.
The lore of the song is both of them went through a tough breakup and each wrote a song about it. The 2 songs were so similar they easily blended the two songs.
🇬🇧 These two fellas were/are THE most successful duo of ALL-TIME. I cannot tell you just how many "hits" they had back in the 70s and 80s, and all of them "BANGERS"..... My favourite "You Make My Dreams Come True" "Private Eyes" "I Can't Go For That" "Maneater".... The list goes on & on & on.......... 🎼🎶♥️
I haven't even watched to reaction but I already know I love it. Because I love a musician that is probably very steeped in one genre, but you are stepping out and appreciating all forms. Keep it up please. Let's go!!
I don't know if this is still true but in the 80's they were the top selling duo in history. A lot of great songs. My favorite album if "Voices". The song everything go away they really demonstrate their soulful side.
Daryl's House a show on cable but it can be accessed on U Tube. He invites other artists and they celebrate their hits. He also does H+O songs with the guest.
I saw these guys back in the early 80s. You sound like you come from the south so you may be aware of a place called Carowinds in NC, and they could pull in some big names back then.
This was Hall & Oats debut single…Hit Makers!! In his 70’s, Daryle Hall hosted a show, from his home studio “Live from Daryl’s House”. You must witness, just pick any!
Good stuff. A great band I haven’t listened to since those days because, being a youngster to teenager listening to the radio every chance I got, I heard their hits all the time until I got tired of it.
Daryl Hall is the main singer with the higher vocal range, John Oates plays guitar and has that iconic 'stache. This is one of the rare H&O songs that features Oates on vocals, at least among their "radio hits". Love it! Such a classic. "Sara Smile" is another absolutely smooth banger by H&O that is a must listen, plus many more.
They are awesome, they transitioned into the '80's with flare, although I think their '70's stuff was unbeatable. It's another deep rabbit hole my friend, lol. Daryl Hall (no moustache) has a YT show called Live From Daryl's House, where they jam with music royalty from anywhere and anytime, in his home studio, you'd be amazed who's been on there, it's one of my favourite things. ✌❤
Daryl Hall (blonde hair) and John Oates(black hair) were a duo that was great together. Each now doing their own stuff, but they had so many great hits. Might be worth your while to look into!
Daryl Hall is the blonde/light brown hair and John Oates is the dark haired guy. They were all over the charts in the 70’s and 80’s. Daryl has a great vocal range and sings the highest notes while John sings in the lower register. I think their biggest hit was “Maneater” but there are so many more. A great duo!
EVERYBODY had soul in the 70s - music was truly colorblind and we loved it then and still do. If you haven't yet heard, wait until you check out The Average White Band. They are in my top 5 favorite bands of the 70s. Keep on groovin'🤗💃🕺
And, now sadly, they're fighting publicly and in the courts. On the plus side, seems Oates is finding his own way and people are starting to recognize he has an incredible voice, as well.
Wow...I grew up with Old Grey Whistle Test in UK in the 70s...it was a seminal show for absolute live rock, prog, you name it. But I have never seen this live version. I know the song well, it was a big hit in UK at the time. The Abandonned Lunchonette album is a good place to start. They went a bit poppy in the 80s, but had a few hits.
Sadly they are at a point of lawsuits mostly on Daryl’s side against Oates because John was playing some of their old songs in his solo career I believe. Makes me sad and disappointed.
Sad thing about this duo after a million hits, in 2024 they had to split the act due to lawsuits against each other. Sad when one time brothers who lived so much of life together making so much happiness have to have an unamiable split at the end. Oh well let's go anyway!
I was disappointed in this live version but you should def listen to the studio version. Their vocals are much stronger and the music... Gotta love the Old Grey Whistle show.
I agree. I've also never been a fan of the first verse on this live performance and the album version either, but maybe its because I grew up hearing the single version that doesn't have the "My daddy tried to bore me with a sermon... Sorry, Charlie, for the imposition... etc
So great. But when the 80’s came they did “Maneater” and other assaults on humanity. So sad what Coke did to music in the ‘80’s. Their 70’s stuff is so solid!!

My favorite H&O's tune!
Such a great song! 😁
Sara Smile , Rich Girl , I Can't go for that, Maneater, Kiss is on My List,Private Eyes so many love them!! Watch Daryl's House with the OJays it will blow you away!!
Their catalog is DEEP and WIDE with killer tracks. I guarantee you’ll love No Can Do, I Can’t Go For That and Sarah Smile just to name a few.
I saw them way back in 1977. I’ve been a super fan for a long time.
Old Grey Whistle Test wth Billy Joel... New York State of Mind......epic performance

I saw Hall and Oats in concert at the Hollywood Bowl In 2016. It was really a magical night.
The blue eyed soul of Philadelphia ✌️

Haulin' Oats
Daryl Hall and John Oats. Awesome guys and song writers.! Songs : Rich Girl, You make my Dreams Come True, Maneater, I cant go for that, Private Eyes and many more.
You can’t beat Hall and Oates!
This might just be them at their best!
'70s ruled brother.

Their BEST track in my opinion. never gets old. would be a relevant hit today in 2024
Such a great tune! Absolutely loved it!

Straight up Philly soul !!!!!
The blond is Hall & the darker hair is Oates.
Just for fun in your spare time you should check out Live from Darryl’s House. He gets together to jam with other famous musicians. It’s pretty cool !!
Dude sorry to check in so much but when you say these are some bad dudes. That is so wonderful. You get it!
Number 1 duet of all time
The famous Bernard "Purdy" Purdie drums on the studio track! You gotta listen to it.
Welcome to Blue Eyed Soul, they got me from the beginning with Sara Smile, when i was in Highschool.
You could release a double album of just their US top 10 hits (16). These guys were a hit factory in the 80s. Check out literally any guest artist on Darryl Hall's show "Live From Darryl's House". I genuinely can't think of a bad episode or performance.

My first show(Aug 13th,1983)! Was amazing!
This is so awesome! Hall and Oates are beasts. Love this song and love your reaction!
Such a great tune! Thanks for hanging out! 😁

Hall & Oats Were Referred To As "Blue Eyed Soul"
I don't know if this is still true but in the 80's they were the top selling duo in history. A lot of great songs. My favorite album if "Voices". The song everything go away they really demonstrate their soulful side.

Hall & Oates are fantastic, massive catalog of music and in their videos you can really see them having lots of fun
👏🙌🎶‼️. Great reaction to these great guys! They have a deep awesome catalog to explore and you must do it😉✌️👋
Can't really see who the band is in the picture but part of their future band became the Saturday night live band. Bass player and the guitar player
Although I love shred guitar, it hadn't been invented yet and this is how you color the music with a guitar with no fast runs. Color that music
Hall is the blonde and Oates is the dark haired one. They are original. Today, others 'sample' their work!!
Good stuff. A great band I haven’t listened to since those days because, being a youngster to teenager listening to the radio every chance I got, I heard their hits all the time until I got tired of it.

Check out "Back Together Again' for more John on vocals!
that was a hit ! i remember it like yesterday ! great song !
That was great. Heard of them but I don’t think I have ever heard that song. Loving the mix of artists you do reactions to.
Really appreciate that! Thanks so much! 😁

Another great song from Hall & Oates is Sara Smile. They had a lot of bangers though.
Daryl Hall (blonde hair) and John Oates(black hair) were a duo that was great together. Each now doing their own stuff, but they had so many great hits. Might be worth your while to look into!
Loved your video and your commentary as always. Easiest subscribe of my life.
Really appreciate that! Thanks for hanging out! 😁
The synth solo is cool in this version, but in the original it is a great sax solo.
Daryl Hall is the blonde/light brown hair and John Oates is the dark haired guy. They were all over the charts in the 70’s and 80’s. the guy's from philly their kind of philly sound !
And, now sadly, they're fighting publicly and in the courts.

Tienes que oír también los temas “Sara Smile”, “Private eyes”
Sadly they are at a point of lawsuits mostly on Daryl’s side against Oates because John was playing some of their old songs in his solo career I believe. Makes me sad and disappointed.
I agree, definitely a sad situation from a duo that has played together for so long 🫤
Check out Live At Daryl's house bangers!
A few others have suggested that! Definitely have to check it out! Appreciate it!
Sara Smile...

So unfortunate! 😞
Do you have any drum covers yourself?? Would like to see 👍
I haven’t yet but definitely plan on it!
I was disappointed in this live version but you should def listen to the studio version. Their vocals are much stronger and the music... Gotta love the Old Grey Whistle show.
I’ll have to check that out! 🤙🏻
I agree. I've also never been a fan of the first verse on this live performance and the album version either, but maybe its because I grew up hearing the single version that doesn't have the "My daddy tried to bore me with a sermon... Sorry, Charlie, for the imposition... etc
Great song but the studio version is WAY better!!
So great. But when the 80’s came they did “Maneater” and other assaults on humanity. So sad what Coke did to music in the ‘80’s. Their 70’s stuff is so solid!!
Philly soul brother. Turn off the video you think they're black
