The only way you could truly tell the difference between these washers is to do a tear-down. Just because they have the same agitator doesn't mean the internals are the same. Do they both use the same vibration dampening? Is the mechanical control on the Maytag going to be more reliable than the digital selector on the other one? Do they use different quality pumps or the same? Is the warranty the same on both? Do they both have the same motors installed? Lots of unknowns here.

If you go up to the premium SQ you get a 7 year , not on the earlier models, On the maytag 10 year Motor etc. 5 year on all. But it costs 500 to 600 bills cheaper and has a better agittator and cleans clothes better. I have had both and they are both good machines.

The only difference between the two Whirlpool built washers is the quality of the cabinets. They are both Vertical Modular Washers (VMW) All of the internal components are the same, including the control boards. The commercial unit comes with an extended warranty. If you purchase the residential model and an extended warranty, they will be close to the same price. Unless your lucky, you will be visited by a repair man in about 3 years. The lid lock will fail, the actuator will need to be replaced, and eventually the gear case will leak oil. Use a surge protector to save the control board. They don't build then the way they use to.

We have that cheap Amana set and both the washer and drier *SUCK* - The washer takes forever to do a load and *DOES NOT* get things as clean as the 20 year old Maytag washer it replaced. The drier gets about as warm as a hand-held hair drier and usually takes two cycles to get a load dry. Very disappointed with that stuff. Now the reason the basket pivots inside most washers these days is for load imbalance detection and damage protection during the spin cycle. Even the commercial stuff has it. The motor and transmission are mounted to the frame that floats and pivots, increasing lifespan. We're considering upgrading to the Maytag stuff this weekend after seeing videos by other owners who are very satisfied.

If you really wanted to do a comparison, you would purchase one of the Maytag commercial washers instead of just going into a home center and playing with the machines on display. I have sold over 60 Maytag MVWP575GW washers in the past five years And to be honest I had three of them that needed to have minor service, but they were covered by Maytag‘s five year unconditional warranty. The machine is completely different inside and out from your basic Whirlpool. First of all it has a heavier duty motor with steel pulleys instead of plastic. It has a heavy duty actuator, which is the control that switches from spin to agitate. It has a reinforced lid switch, the construction of the machine is completely different. The cabinet is actually the same cabinet that is used on their heavy duty front load washers, which is completely reinforced with steel 6 inches all the way around on the bottom and top. If you want to do a comparison, do a comparison with a speed queen See what washer washes better speed queen has an antiquated agitator that they’ve been using for the past 40 years the Maytag has a patented dual action agitator which rotates the clothes down to the bottom, where the washing action takes place. The Maytag spins faster, is quieter, and has a larger basket. I do sell speed queen, Maytag, Whirlpool, G E, and other brands. The Maytag, true commercial is the most dependable washer out there today, ask anyone who owns one.

The model I bought is the MVWP575GW , which is the model number made for the independent retailers. It comes with a complete 5 year parts and labor onsite warranty, and a 10 year limited total warranty. The MVWP576KW model which you get at big box stores has only a 1 year complete parts and labor warranty and 10 year limited total warranty. If you want more warranty for that model ( its the same machine just different number ) you have to get a big box store extended warranty. So it was a no brainer for me. I looked at the Maytag one and that Amana washer. There was no comparison. You can tell by the metal of the sides and doors for one. The Amana was MUCH MUCH lighter. The Maytab basket was stainless steel as opposed to porcelin for the Amana. The Maytag has a far better motor. Yeah you can save money and maybe it would be ok. And the Speed Queen maybe that is better? But I paid $899 for the Maytag and the Speed Queen was like 1100. Only time will tell. Now my last washer was a low budget Whirlpool and that lasted over 25 years! The ONLY time it broke (before it's demise) was the FIRST load I ran. It had a kinked hose that caused problems. Once fixed it worked like a champ. Nothing similiar out there now. I was looking at 600 Whirlpools and then I saw this for 300 more. Not that much more. Now my dead Whirlpool I bought for 230 bucks....25-30 years ago! He was a good washer. But nothing lasts forever, sorry Whirlpool!

If you ask me what makes this washer worth the extra money they are charging, I would say that it's the only one sold in a big box store that is most reminiscent to the types of washers sold 10-15 years ago; It doesn't have the load sensing nonsense. It's the only one where it doesn't have the lid lock for ading aditional items (I do believe) it offers a more traditional wash style (2 piece dual action agitator with better rollover) and has a longer warranty. From what I've also heard, this model is produced in a different part of the plant where the rest of the Maytag commercial machines are made (if that even means anything as far as quality control**hint**) At the end of the day.. I truly think this model does offer more than what the rest offer (which justifies it's hefty price tag) however when compared to a Speed Queen, it is miles and miles away...

I don't know if the gearcase is any stronger but it may be. Suspension is hanging spring rod as most all of the Whirlpool top loaders. Technician papers inside will tell the user how to troubleshoot the various error lights etc. Looks pretty easy to work on but for one thing if you have a leaky tub seal/bad tub bearing you have to replace the entire gearcase as those parts are not available separately. Nope, there are definitely lots of mechanical differences compared to that Amanda. A welded stainless steel tub versus a riveted porcelain tub. A 7-ribbed belt versus a lower quality belt. This unit also has a 1/2 horsepower motor as well. Not too many Top Loaders these days can boast that.

I'm interested in GE's answer to Maytag and Speed Queen.

@@jeromedavis8575 I'll be honest I'd have to physically see it and run it as well. But right off the bat, that 4.2 cu ft capacity is key. I think Maytag missed an opportunity by making their unit a 3.5 cu ft. I would even settle for a 3.8 cu ft if they made it. Not too mention GE's price point. I'll tell you right now, GE is gaining a lot of market cause of availability and making units that do what their supposed to do, nothing more nothing less.

I need to see the mechanicals behind the front cover. Then I can tell more about the actual quality. This is useless information.

So we are gonna stand here and act like everyone welds there stainless steel basket like Maytag? Most manufacturers use rivets. Not to mention better quality fasteners. Dude you need to actually let these units wash and compare them to the Speed Queen you have a boner for. Stop playing with the agitators like it's your johnson and actually give us a review!

This is a completely worthless "review" by someone unwilling or incapable of spending the time and effort to examine the machine's build quality and washing performance. As the saying goes...be silent and thought a fool or speak and remove all doubt.

What is the difference? A 5 year bumper to bumper warranty , & a 10 Year motor warranty.
