4 Chilli Padi
4 Clove Garlic
2 tbsp Cooking oil
200g Minced Pork
1 tbsp Light Soy Sauce
1 tbsp Fish Sauce
1/2 tbsp Oyster Sauce
1 tsp Dark Soy Sauce
2 tbsp Water
1/2 cup long Beans
1/2 cup Thai Holy Basil
Fried Egg

Pad kra pao is one of the most iconic dishes of Thailand and I loved it as a Thai citizen.

I'm Thai and I make my pad kra pao this way too! (But i prefer to boil the long bean beforehand) Although many thais hate long bean in their pad kra pao (authentic pao kra pao don't have long bean) ,but i like it in my pad kra pao 😊

I didn’t know many thais didn’t like the beans in it. the very long beans are not available everywhere so I use regular bean. I agree I also like to cook them a little before. Raw bean are not like raw carrot or other raw vegetable. Even a few minutes quickly in boiling water gives, to me, better results.

I’m thai and I’m gonna say that those long beans are pretty rare to find in pad ka prow if you eat in a restaurant/street food. Long beans are optional

is it mostly holy basil used in thailand with this dish or regular thai basil?
@@xinjoy6236 In Thailand, holy basil is used since there is a lot in Thailand. However, in other countries outside of Thailand, holy basil is harder to find so you can substitute another type of basil if you live outside of Thailand. If you live in Thailand, you should use holy basil.

Made kra pao for the first time as an american yesterday from a recipe given to me by a native thai chef. I definitely over did it with the chilies 😂
I'm Thailand and sometimes I eat it everyday and I like it with an egg or fish sauce and there's a Thai sauce called mik-ki (a Thailand soy sauce used to eat with rice or eggs) and I also like to eat with it.

There are 2 type of pad kra phao
1 is the original (no long bean)
2 is with long bean, in this type they will add long bean when the basil price get higher to reduce cost

For thai people that long bean is making most of us rolling eye. Famous Thai youtuber even making a parody song to mock the phad kra pao with long bean in it (also shallot carrot broccoli lettuce and the one people most mistaken is basil yeah the one they used on pizza)

@@SUPPS2GOYeah too many 'old school' Thai restaurants in the UK have turned this into the sort of thing you'd find in a Chinese takeaway - bamboo shoots, broccoli, big lumps of meat instead of minced, swimming in cornstarch thickened sauce and no egg - criminal! The Zaap chain does a very good version tho.

Yes, I’m Thai and that’s Thai authentic Pad KaPrao. But you do or don’t put long beans in it. Mostly don’t.

I can confirm this is authentic. The bean is optional, we put it to save money since meat is more expensive. Meanwhile Im in Europe and can't find Thai holy basil. Orz

Have you tried making it with european basil? It doesn't taste the same, but it still tastes good as a substitute.
I understand that holy basil(kra pao) is hard to find in your area, and my recommendation is that you are better off using italian basil for it instead of Thai basil. It is a closer substitute

Oyster brand or squid brand for fish sauce.
Just only two sauces, No need others sauces in original

"Authentic" -> Puts beans.
I don't know if adding chilli and garlic at the start is authentic, but I know that putting chilli at the start is essentially killing the fresh and beautiful flavour of the chilli. Adding it right at the end of a hot pan full of properly sautéed chicken is faaaaar better.
Also way too much fish sauce, no pinch of brown sugar in sight.
