Selling my 2007 yellow Helix with top case and case rack that I rode from SW Ohio to Area 51 in Nevada! Only drawback was not thinking of rejetting for altitude. Max 71-72. Cruises 60-65 all day at lower jetted elevations. SUPER comfy seat!

I am a fellow Helix owner and let me tell you, it is one of the best designed machines Honda has made. It is super comfortable, as reliable as a hammer, easy to work on, easy to maintain, and the performance from the 250cc engine is just superb. I have used mine as a commuter, grocery getter, and even taken some trips up the Blue Ridge parkway. Its just one capable little machine and it will grow on you over time.

Anytime I ride I wear full face helmet and I also wear a jacket preferably the leather and I also wear bib overalls I'm not doing it as a fashion statement and a pair of at least work boots because without boots you were not going to have a good day if you happen to fall and slide your foot in a pair of Crocs you might as well just chop off your foot because it is not going to end well me myself I love my feet without my feet I cannot ride I cannot walk I don't want to learn how to drive using hand controls no thank you so use your brain and gear up not for that ride but for the slide I would rather be alive nerd than a dead dummy

The right side of the trunk, near the exhaust, gets very hot; as does the tire. I’d store more sensitive electronics and food on the left side, in addittion to towels or padding, due to bouncing around. I have the top case on mine. This bike is excellent for commuting, bringing back groceries, city & country riding, Until now, the longest I’ve spent in a day in that saddle is 400 miles, refueling between 125 & 150 miles. Very smooth ride with low center of gravity and easy to maneuver. Mine tops out about 72 degrees on flat ground with no wind; so you can take it on Interstate routes; but, realistically, will spend most of your time in the slow lane … enjoying the ride; but I generally stick to the inner- or outermost lanes, so I can prevent cars and trucks from driving pararllel to me, so I nearly always have that escape path. Light enough for everyday use in town and comfy enough to tour on!

Sea Foam saved me from having to rebuild the 4 carbs on my '78 Honda CB750F. I was told that the bike was in a shed for years, I had to set the choke and turn up the idle screw, crank it for about 20 seconds, on avg. until it finally started and then slowly release the choke and finally turn down the idle speed. This process took at least 5 minutes. Then one day a Sea Foam rep came into my shop and told me all the virtues of Sea Foam and I set out to prove him wrong, 5 fill ups later, with frost on the seat, I cranked it up with out the choke and she ran like it was summer. Wht a product.

I had a 1987 Helix. Great machines, but the early ones have a weak spots. The carburetor-to-cylinder boot is the only support for the carburetor. Eventually, the boot cracks due to vibration. Honda corrected the problem with a bracket that supports the carburetor from the top of cylinder. I found one on ebay. Also watch the small hoses that carry coolant to warm up the carburetor. In my case, the brass nipple popped out of the carburetor on the highway at 70 mph. The coolant leaked out and by the time I could pull over and stop, the motor was toast. There's also a fuel pump and filter hidden under the floor board. Good luck with it!

One modification that is really helpful is to replace the incandescent dash lights with 194 Sylvania superbright LEDs. I just did it today on my 2004 Helix and now I can easily see the speedometer and dash under all lighting conditions, even with sunglasses on. See Tony Adams' video on how to do it.

If you can't reach 75 then it's possible your drive belt is worn (to narrow) but I doubt it with only 8000 miles on it. If you pull the carb, check the rubber carb holder for cracks.
Change the oil every 1000 miles. I maintain mine well but I drive it hard. You can't kill them. And it takes a while to reset your brain to handle 75 on a busy highway. It moves around a bit but after a while you pay no attention.

I sold my Reflex, and yep, bought a Helix. The Helix is so much more comfortable in the seat, and makes bumpy roads feel smooth. Much better than a Reflex.

    • @linzerpa
      @linzerpa 2 года назад

I went from and Elite 80 to the Reflex 15 years ago, always missed my Elite 80. The Reflex was more like a motorcycle and as you said just not comfy. I sold my Reflex and bought the Yamaha Zuma 125 about 5 years ago. Great scooters but just not comfy either. Going to try to mod them with a seat cushion, highway pegs, and 2 inch handlebar risers (waiting for Amazon now) but if it does not work I am going to hunt down a Helix. Just something calming and secure about the short seat height and low center of gravity of a Helix.

Those Honda Helix's are Retro Radness! Keep it, restore it, paint it and ride it! I bet you can get it performing and looking tops for around $150. Pull those plastics, hit them with some Roth Daddy Metal Flake rattle cans, clear coat it with some SprayMax 2k pro clear... clean those carbs in a sonic cleaner, new iridium plug ($10)... oil change with 4t fully synth and put a new K&N filter on it. Golden.

It's cool to see someone else loving the Helix as much as I do. I'd be careful about putting your phone in the little compartment though, it's close to the radiator and will get super hot in there. If you want to find some cool designs check out Helix Gang on isntagram, those guys go hard on these things. And you can lean that pretty far before it scrapes, I took mine through the mountains in Wakayama and really scrubbed the chicken strips off.

Scooters are a blast to ride and the engine is still made on Chinese bikes from the Helix and you should change the CVT belt and roller weights because if there bad that will hurt the top speed and if that belt brakes the scooter won't move.I like how you think ride what you want not what people think you should ride to fit in that's how I see things, all so some day a Harley would be nice I plan on getting mine when I turn 50.

You have found one of the great secrets in life. It matters not what others think of you. For you can get away from them. What matters is what you think of yourself, for you cannot get away from that person. He is with you when you sleep and when you are awake. Or as one of the greats (not sure which one) said, "Reputation is what others think of you. Honor is what you know of yourself. Tend to your honor and let reputation fall where it may.

I went to Destination Daytona this week, on a 250 (should have took the Grom, because I could push it faster than traffic), and saw a Zero motorcycle, that Zero or a scooter would have been better with all the stop and go. Big Harleys move ten feet, stops, moves ten feet, stops, moves ten feet...try that for 12 miles worth.
Put some Harley eagles on that scooter, for extra HP.
There were some cool cruisers in Shadetree Surgeon's recent video "I found the CHEAPEST motorcycle..." Burt's Harley; might want to check them out if you go by there.

I can never resist a popular cultural reference. In the movie “The Sand Pebbles”, the newly arrived boat’s engineer, Steve McQueen, is checking out the engine room of the eponymous US Navy paddle steamer.
He obviously relishes his job and the machinery and when another sailor refers to the boat as “a big pile of nothin’”; McQueen replies - “She’s got an engine, hasn’t she? Then she ain’t nothin.”

  • @davidphillips7255

55 , 65 mph would be more like it for a 250 scoot. Scoots that are hopped up usually don't last long. Left stock and treated more gently they will run nearly forever. Get rid of the low end grunt with a hop up and it would be a real slug off the line. With the CVT, scoots are a different animal. They are superfun though.

I think this is how I'm gonna pick up chicks.
Murdocks, Big R, Ace Hardware, Tractor Supply... this time of year is when they usually have chicks up for sale.

I'd like to have myself one of those Honda X-ADV 750 scooters. I don't think they sell them in the states though. They seem pretty badass from the vids I've seen on RUclips.

Sure, the Helix was crazy....but IMO, the craziest Honda "scooter" (besides the MotoCompo with accompanied City Turbo II, which isn't just crazy, the whole package is absolutely sick) , was the NM4....or even better, the Honda Integra (no, not the car Honda Integra, the scooter, Integra NC700D)

You won't regret not getting an order Goldwing. The way I understand it is if the stator goes out you have to take the motor off to replace it. If I was misinformed I apologize.
