  • In a sense, it’s good that I’m not wasting so much time playing video games, but on the other hand, it can be time well wasted.

As someone in my 30s i feel the same way. I use to consider myself a hardcore gamer but not anymore these days. Maybe its because i have more responsibilities as an adult or games just aren't as good as they used to be. But i will say i like fighting games a lot. Because its a genre of games you can get better at them over time without the pressure of feeling like you NEED to play it. I can play it whenever, practice skills within the game I want to work on and improve over time. Also as I get older I realize how important time is and dont want to waste it sitting on my ass doing something thats not beneficial to my life

You articulated it so well. Yes, don't want to waste a bunch of time but fighting games still have their appeal. Totally agree with everything you said man.

love this video, Paul! hahah I miss the feeling of gaming as a child :( I still game once in awhile though and there are some games that really suck me in, genres that I didn't think I'd enjoy! Most recently I've gotten really into deckbuilders like Slay The Spire and Balatro!

It's kind of similar for me as well. Video games when I was a kid were so magical to me also. I have the fondest memories of playing games for hour hours with my friends. Several of the games you listed are some of my son's favorites. Uncharted is his all-time #1. Now he plays Fortnite, Doom or that Tom Clancy fps game with his friends. I know when they had Covid lock-down for a year, what kept my son sane was gaming with his bros. It was a Godsend for those boys who were suddenly isolated from the social aspect of school. Oh! RE4 is my favorite RE games & one of my fave all-time games. Have you ever played Castlevania Symphony of the Night?

    • @PaulYuNow
      @PaulYuNow  13 дней назад +1

I haven't played castlevania but yeah RE4 is definitely one of my all time faves! Yeah gaming with bros is a social thing too, I'm glad your son had that during covid. Some of my best high school memories is playing counter strike for hours with my friends. Good times. You kinda fell out of love with video games too eh? I guess it's pretty common

@PaulYuNow Yeah...I dunno what it is, but fir some reason, today's games (stunning as they are) just don't capture the Magic of Final Fantasy and other games on SNES, or the RE games on PS1, glitch as they were. I've just started re-playing Secret if Mana on our SNES though. And I play all the old Castlevania games either on the Switch or the 3DS XL. If you ever get a chance to play those Castlevania games, I think you'd like them 😊 My son does enjoy modern games, but I love that he loves old school games too. Ooh have you ever played Devil May Cry?

I love special things, and throughout my time in the world, I've had a good eye for that which was special. Since I find most contemporary video games to be less than special, I don't game nearly as much as I used to.
This frees me up to dedicate my time to those things that I love. These things have made a difference to my entire life and spirit, and they have my undying loyalty.

I find that my motivation and enjoyment of games, especially single player ones, only really comes through on my days off of work. Its too hard to immerse myself when I only have a few hours to play. I absolutely love bg3 for example, but I've been playing it since release and have only just finished my 2nd playthrough.

    • @PaulYuNow

So you need hours and hours of free gaming time to thoroughly enjoy it eh? You're still a hardcore gamer!

When I was little, my hand-eye co-ordination was atrocious. I couldn't tie my shoes, throw a ball, and all that stuff. My parents took me to a specialist, and they said we should get a computer as that would help. I can remember sneaking outside to play with my friends and being called back inside to finish my hour on the computer first. My students (and daughters) find that hard to believe.
So gaming has been a part of my life for a long time. When I lived out bush, it was my lifeline that kept me sane.
I've visited guildmates from WoW (went to about 15 states in the US), but after that, largely put games that "gamers" think as games aside. With the rise of mobile gaming, I largely swapped over to that, instead. Mindless, pointless stuff... but it's not like grinding mining on Azeroth was much better.
I play Roblox and Minecraft with my daughters (less so nowadays, as they would rather run about in those games with their friends instead), and have recently started getting older games for the nostalgia hit on Steam.
How I game has changed over the years because I've changed over the years. I look back on the old ways with fondness, but I don't mourn their passing (the nostalgia ones I play completely differently now compared to when I was a teen, both in strategy/playstyle and when and how I play).

Thanks for sharing dude! Funny how you were forced computer time lol. It's interesting to hear how your relationship with gaming has changed. I think the original resident evil 4 is the only game I play because of nostalgia.

Even though we had one of the BEST gaming years in the HISTORY of gaming (2023) i feel myself slowly losing interest in gaming as I grow older and my interest shifts to other things like traveling or sports etc. Similar to you when I was a kid, I used to enjoy them much more (possibly because I had much more time on my hands). I still game almost everyday on my PS5, PC, and Switch but I guess because of school and work I have less time/energy now resulting in less interest in gaming. That’s me though! Everyone’s different!

"tried TLOU, and get bored", instantly clicked like button.
Joke apart, I understand your feeling. I'm still an hardcore gamer, but is normal that a grown up man doesn't see the world with the same eyes of a kid. When you're a kid, everything seems more magical, that's why we think older games are better than new games. That's because we were more restricted, now, as an independent 30 yo, i can play whenever i want and how much i want, making every session less special.
In the other hand, I don't play with my guts anymore, but with my head. Now I enjoy games seeing aspects like game design and artstyle
That's the secret, accepting we are cynical adults who never enjoy games like before, but we can still appreciate and enjoy games for other aspect that a kid rarely can see. Look at the mechanics, the level design, how deep is the gameplay, and how is mixed with sound and graphics

The reason you’re falling out of love with games is your probably burnt out and people like us that are in our 30’s have experienced several generations of video games that everything starts to feel the same….nothing is innovative. Take breaks in between gaming say a month or two and see how you feel, It can be overwhelming, expensive, etc… but that’s why you game at your own pace instead of keeping up with the crowd.

    • @PaulYuNow
