The beginning of the intro and the end give me chills. Because these brave men on both side de fought and died for what they believed and nobody won the war because after this there is a war in the mind. war changes a man. I may not be a solider or a veteran, but those who have faith and believe in god are his children. Me personally, if there was a way to save a man and turn his life around to Christ in warfare I would gladly choose that option, over killing him and trying to live with my self knowing I killed another brain washed man or women or even child. What a badass and beautiful tribute to the Harlem Hellfighters a extremely under appreciated battalion of African American soldiers and all others who fought in the trenches.
Ron Royce One solider called Henry Johnson killed five Germans and scared off as many as 30 Germans while under fire and wounded many times but didn't receive any recognition or rewards or even financial support after the war. He was only rewarded 73 years after his death in around 1920. And I bet money you never ever learned anything about the Harlem hellfigthers in school so you tell me if they were under appreciated.
Ever heard about Garret Morgan? He invented the stoplight and the fire retardant mask saving countless lives in the same decade. Guess who wins the Nobel Prize? A white man who invented poisonous gas. And many soldiers did not receive financial support, the Harlem Hellfighters were volunteers and heroes. When the two soldiers lowered their guns was nothing short of good writing. They are both exhausted , fatigued and literally surrounded by the bodies of their fallen comrades. And neither of them wishes to further add to the death and destruction that has already taken place.
This is an amazing intro. Just the first minuet shows everything about war and how it truly is, with no glory or greatness, and just bloodshed and death.
I don't think I've ever seen a better intro to a video game. One about a war that probably most young gamers had never heard of before. And it really was a "A war to end all wars" that ended nothing and yet set the stage for the most important war of modern times and the reason for the current state of affairs.
This cutscene my knowledge and attitude towards war. From “ya wars cool, it would be fun to be in one” to “it’s just an endless battle with the only outcome being death and suffering, no one good or bad should experience it”
Those two soldiers... At first, their defensive instincts took over, and they raised their sights against another. But then, they continue to ponder among all their fallen comrades around each other. Everyone when they fought with, and everyone they killed. Most importantly, they looked into each other's eyes. They saw through the dogma of mankind's wrath. They asked themselves the existential question of the nature of consciousness: Is this what life is about? Is this why we live? We are both people. We don't have to fight... They don't have to fight... At the end of the day, it all comes down to poor decisions made my nations and its leaders to justify sending masses to the front lines against your fellow man, to settle petty differences and express the arrogance of supremacy. Those two soldiers, regardless of the endless scenarios in their mind or their future endeavors, in that moment, they defied the very nature of existence. They decided what only the wisest and the strongest are able to discern: We will not destroy ourselves. How long is it gonna take for the rest of humanity to get the goddamn message? I challenge you, mankind. Become greater, stronger, smarter. Don't cower to the vices of greed and power. Dare to defy.
I can tell that these 2 soldiers had enough fighting in the war, they wanted to end it for causing a lot bad habits, but not just that. The pain of their main on the fronts of death, killing and following what needs to he done. But these 2 when I see the look in their eyes it mean they don't wanna fight no more. They just wanna go home and enjoy their family.
