I think of the song "Bette Davis Eyes" but Olive Thomas's also were beautiful and unusual even in black-and-white photos. Imagine being with Olive Thomas in person and looking into those eyes! I read once that when the term "star" began to be used for entertainers Olive Thomas was one of those entertainers. I'm glad that these photos of this little-known figure from Hollywood's early years have survived and that we can see them today. Thank you so much for sharing them.
@PlayIt4MeAgainSam From what I heard Mary and her family (except Lottie) disliked Olive, they thought Jack was too young to be married (he was 19 I believe). Lottie liked Olive and was very heart broken when she died. Although in Mary's autobiography she said "The beauty of Olive Thomas is legendary. The girl had the loveliest violet-blue eyes I have ever seen. They were fringed with long dark lashes that seemed darker because of the delicate translucent pallor of her skin."
Find Olive Thomas fascinating. If she’d just stayed away from that Pickford rogue, I think she’d have made the transition and been a star the lies of Myrna Loy, Bette Davis
I can't help but wonder if Mary Pickford had approved of her, would she have been more successful...she was such a free spirit, really setting the standard for the 'flapper'. Terrific tribute to Thomas; wonderful photos here Baz! ★★★★★
@OldHollywoodFan I know that the Pickford family really disapproved of Olive - she had a bad "reputation"; not known as a 'serious' actress, and Mary didn't think that she was good enough (or a good influence for Jack)....she was clearly talented. It's too bad...I think that Olive could have had more success. I know that the entire Pickford family did pay their respects at her funeral...seems like they could have done more for her when she was alive, imo! Cheers.
Pickford was jealous of anyone who worked her way up, just like she, herself, did. Olive Thomas was beautiful. It's a shame Olive Thomas died screaming after ingesting her husband's (Jack Pickford's) medicine for syphilis.

Goddess of the forgotten time...
She was beautiful, only lived 25 years, too short of life.
