Put yourself in Namatame's shoes for a second. The woman you loved was murdered, and a policeman told you to get the next Midnight Channel people somewhere safe. You throw the first person you see on the MC into the TV, and in about a month or so, they appear happier, alive, and with new friends. It's a surprise he didn't start throwing more people.
Any person with a functioning brain would go up to them and ask them how it was inside. Yes, I know Golden added something to explain that plot hole with him not being brave enough to do that, it still makes him a Piece of Shit tho.

Maybe Nametame would have an Izanagi of his own, since his, the MC's and Adachi's powers all came from the same source.

The more I think about it, Namatame does seem to represent the Fool. Upon discovering his powers of the Midnight channel, he begins his own “Fool’s Journey” to save the victims from a tragic death. His journey ended however, upon capture by the other Fool, and coincidentally enough Yu’s Fool link is completed after his capture.
Even though Adachi's arcana is the Jester & Hunger, all three arcana share the same rank being 0 so it fits.

Wow. I was thinking that Namatame was the killer. But the poor guy was trying to stop the killing. Even though his way to trying to stop them would only lead to more people dying.

To be honest, when first saw Namatame, I thought he was completely insane, but after seeing this, I guess he really was trying to help
Poor Namatame, he just wanted to help those people. If it weren’t for Adachi giving the poor man the insane idea in the first place on that one call...none of this wouldn’t have happen in the first place. Then again, if it weren’t for Adachi none of the disappearances and killings would’ve happened at all!
Hmm... so Adachi is the Simon Keyes of this, but the other way round, whereas the former killed and let everything else play out as it were, Keyes manipulated various people and then killed.

After hearing his story, I genuinely felt bad for the bastard. He is the true hero, thanks to him we were able to prevent the deaths of many others, as well as ensured that potential victims were secured away from the killer.
He was the architect and a pawn for our quests yet took the fall without even realizing it; all the while we steal the spotlight and the glory.
Also the people that he threw in the TV were able to become the best person they can be.
Counting that we always saved the persons that were thrown in the TV and never failed, Namatame did indirectly do the right thing by doing the wrong thing. And he learnt from that and tried to do the right thing, but he now looks if he really is doing the right thing instead of doing it mindlessly.
Actually he isn’t. Even if he didn’t throw people into the TV, Adachi would still be doing it and we would’ve gone in to the TV regardless. Also, because he threw people into the TV, not only did he play right into Adachi’s hands, he also prolong the investigation. He also kidnapped Nanako, that is something unforgivable. He is no hero, just a pawn for the killer.

Namatame its Not Bad Guy After all
Namatame tried all he could... he was really, really trying to save them...
Late to the party but I love rewatching this scene, cause it shows that Namatame was never bad at all, just a guy down on his luck, given power, and unlike Adachi, and more like the MC, chose to try to do good with said power, but thanks to Adachi meddling, it came off as wrong.
Hell the only reason why he kept going ahead and tossing people is because he saw the same people being saved whenever he did, not realizing it was us doing the saving, so in his eyes what he was doing was right, and in a weird sense it was, he just didn't have the full scope of the story.
Gotta admit, that's the thing I love more about P4 than P5. In order to get the true ending, you can't look at the game's story from a normal perspective and you have to take in all ounces of information to take logical steps forward while keeping your emotions in check. In P5, to get the good ending, just don't be a dick and sell out. That's all. Even Akechi gives himself away almost right away at the start of the story.
And that's only if you pay attention to the pancakes because not many players had noticed.
And theres the p5 the royal coming. Which makes me wonder, how many endings will it be?
A bad end, a blissful ending yet unknown danger coming, or a true ending where everyone is happy.

Very late comment but no, just a straight up no. P3,4,5 story and endings are incredibly easy to figure out. Its clear that Namatame isnt the killer. However in order to get the true ending you just have to try and error, because you are given 15 or so different answers, and if you say even one wrong well bad ending it is. And Adachi being the real killer is at the same time the easiest and dumbest reveal to get, because in the Original there are 0 hints towards him being the killer, at the final decision you simply go through all options and just think "I guess its this guy" because all other options are impossible. The games story is awful. Its one of the worst written and most convoluted games ever made. P5 reveal was obvious aswell, but i rather take obvious over dumb and nonsensical.
In P5, if you check the TV in Leblanc sometime early December, he was mentioned running for public office. Was he still there when Shibuya got fused with Mementos? If so, this is the second time he witnessed another "grotesque" world like the Midnight Channel.
The poor guy needs some serious therapy.

I went from hating Namatame and being seconds away from pushing him into the TV on my first run through. I decided at the last moment that I'd hear him out one more time before making the choice (also because I heard I'd get a bad end if I chose 'push the bastard in'). And well, now I feel horrible for ever hating him. Namatame really did just want to save people. Not for fame or acknowledgement. Only because he wanted to do what was right.

Namatame is innocent, a bit of foolish to be tricked like that but at the end of the day he’s still a good guy. I can’t imagine what would the investigation team do if they realise they kill the wrong guy in the bad ending, guilt might stick with them forever.
poor Mr namatame he missed mayumi then Saki's dad was sad about his daughter dying because Adachi!
I would honestly forgive him since he didn’t kill anyone but it would be difficult if Nanako never survived.
It's still Adachi's meddling that led to any of this though

Matt Mercer voiced Namatame in the anime only. In the game, he was voiced by Zach Hanks, who also voiced Captain MacMillan in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Since he was given the power by Izanami, his Persona would probably also be some form of Izanagi... that's kind of interesting to speculate about.
Why does the game gravitate toward making Namatame look like some a-hole? That man needs the biggest hug imaginable.
And I hope he's the protag of his own Persona someday, he deserves it.

He did when he took Nanako
He never thought of getting inside the TV until he got to Nanako. He always thought that his victims (starting from Yukiko) managed to find their way back from the TV world on their own (not knowing that Investigation Team were the ones who bailed them out from the dangers of the other world). It's only when he entered the TV in person that he started doubting himself.
P.S: In this version, he appeared briefly during a concert in Junes with the intention of talking to the Investigation Team due to being curious as why they hang out together, but ended up going home due to being ashamed.

I really wish that there was an options to make the P4G battles into the original P4 battles, because the P4 bosses are more challenging, but Golden has more stuff and I love it.

Hey Guys.....I found something unexpected. Namatame only kidnapped the people on his "list". However, he didn't murdered Amano and Saki. Someone ELSE is pull the strings and messing with his head to make him go crazy.
He believed that he was saving people because when he kidnaps people and puts them in the TV, we save them. So I was wondering...what would've happened if we just let one person who gets kidnapped die in the TV world?

Just like Korea, Japan has some gossip webs too ya know. Especially if you're a famous artist or someone in a very high position, the media will always try to lure put out the info you have/had.
In addition to what Fallen Trash said, Japan is a society that still clings to its feudal-era beliefs about honor to some extent. Having an affair is considered an act that brings shame upon the families of the two people involved.

Namatame is quite possibly the dumbest character in any Persona game ever, for the simple reason that he NEVER checked to see if the TV work was safe. I mean if you find a giant hatch in the middle of nowhere with pictures of recently murdered people and consistently appearing pictures of new victims, don’t you think you would at least take a peak inside before throwing children in there? I mean he popped into the TV world at Heaven, the most beautiful part of the TV world, and said that it was the most hideous thing he ever saw. If he had even peaked his head just slightly in the TV, Nanako would not have been in danger.
Joel James if you peek your head slightly in, you wouldn’t see it. You would see the white and black swirl.
