- Gapping lames, it happens, even to experienced medieval armourers back in the day. I first spotted this medieval solution to the problem in the Royal Armouries in Leeds, I wish I had taken pictures of it as I have no idea what piece I was looking at now, but sadly it was early days and I wasn't quite thinking of evidence and references back in those days.
Graham, thank you for this tip. Especially since you found evidence of this type of bodge in the Royal Armouries. This is the kind of information that can help beginners not give up when things don't work right, I think.
The RA discovery was a landmark moment for me ... they got stuff wrong to! :)
Love the short tips just as much as the tutorials. Keep them coming please. You're my armor hero!
DUDE! this helps a ton, this is the main thing that's been giving me trouble. Thanks!
Always a pleasure
I hope you and your family are staying healthy in these times. Thank you so much for your videos. They are always inspiring to me.
thnks, we're keeping well enough I think. Thanks for your kind words.
Little tip videos are great. Thanks!
thanks for making these vids I have found them helpful
you have fixed my biggest problem i've been having its driving me mad
Glad it helps. It can mean that the pattern is a little flat if it happens a lot. Not always but sometimes.
very helpful! thanks, one less thing to make a newbie mistake on when i do finally have the money to give this stuff a go
Ha I did this this morning. You showed me how to move a hole ages ago. Thank you.
the scapegoat hole!
Clock and watch folks use a similar technique for correcting bushings.
I didn't know that. If they do it then we must be in good company.
Are these lames rectangles or do they have slightly sloped tops? Is there a reason for it or is it just aesthetics?
flatish along the bottom exposed section and a raised curve on the top of about10mm. the curve means that the can articulate but remain inside the curve of the joint..
If I have it close I just flair the entire edge out just a bit because pi & maths are my friends. Of course I am not a real armorer like you I just read a SCA armoring book by Paul Blackwell 35 years ago and if I wanted to fight I had to make it. So I made some for my friends and household members but it was just functional if they wanted shiny shit they had to do that themselves. Can they really bitch when my labor was free.I always figured it was largess for being able to smack them really hard with variously sized sticks.
So what you're saying is, smack it with a hammer until it fits? I feel like this has been humanity's solution for most problems since the paleolithic.
If you need a camera stand in a hurry,
Try an small vice.
Hi, I usually have a camera and a stand, but wasn't planning any filming that day so I just had my phone and it's little camera. Usually I plan it, just not on this one. I'll look at getting one of those small phone tripods :)
