Wow.... if I wasn’t in the middle of switching my books from the cardboard boxes to the BCW Bins... I would love to have this awesome drawers set up man.
That is a great idea. Truth is that if these were to be anywhere else but the private comic book room I would have made these furniture grade out of hardwood. I kind of like the ‘raw’ look in the comic book room. It reminds me of the goal of me building the drawers. The goal was to build them light and cheap as could be. The drawers and comic books are on my second floor of my house. I didn’t want the weight to be too heavy for the floor joists to hold. A comic book collection can become very heavy.
I have definitely liked the raw look of the drawers. It was never meant to be finished furniture. The goal was to make them be better than cardboard long boxes and to be cheap. While cheap is a relative term, they are definitely better than cardboard longboxes that had to be constantly moved every time a new comic was put away. Thanks for the kind words.
Ahh good question. The best looking combination would have been to make the cabinets out of melamine board. Melamine board is MDF with a laminate coating. But I chose to use Plywood because of the weight. MDF is a very heavy material. My comic book room is on my second floor. I calculated the weight if I did it in all in MDF and that added over a ton to the project. More weight than I want to put on my floor joists. Hope that answers that question.
So your drawers are 23” long with some of it not being usable. So how many comics fit into the usable part of each drawer? How long is the usable part of your drawers?
This is awesome! Please create a pdf instruction guide with cuts and materials. I would pay $ for the ability to make it easy to take to Lowe’s/Home Depot for the cuts
Noticed your ring! Glad to see a fellow Freemason collecting comics! Subscribed!
Thanks for the sub!! So many great masons out there. More than most people realize.

You could add wood edge banding to hide the plywood edges, it creates a more finished look.

Great job Matt. Thanks for the tutorial. Now if I. An find some dedicated space for my comic book room (sigh).
Hi Matt! Great job! I was curious as to why you used plywood and MDF instead of just MDF.
Thanks!
Alan

Matt you're doing a great job! My question is once you have all your books in the cabinets will you still have an "oh Suga box"?

I wish that I had done that. I ended up misplacing that cut sheet.
