Spaceballs - State of the Art (Winners Week!) (Amiga Demoscene)

- Picking out a selection of productions that took first place at the party they were released at. Some of these will already exist on youtube, hopefully we'll find a few that don't!
I couldn't do a 'winners week' without including one of the most famous ever winners of the Amiga scene. Seems like it's a bit of a divisive one but this winner from The Party 1992 has probably been seen by more people than any other demo. This particular version features a message 'Skid Row debugged it' so I'm not sure what difference it has to the 'real' version but this is the one from the pouet download link anyway.
This is like a music video, I've seen people talking about there being 'no design' to this but personally I think the opposite - this is a fully cohesive experience with an awesome tune and great visuals. We see a few of the typical demoscene tropes here, the interference patterns with the dancing ladies, vectors morphing into different shapes and some 3D vectors too. And then there's the strobes, oh the strobes, a real assault for the senses, banging techno super fast strobing bring this demo to its climax and it's just great. My favourite part is actually the fast bits of text that appear, it reminds me of the intro to the film 'Enter The Void', but the whole thing is really nicely done.

I remember when I put the floppy disk in my Amiga and booted up this demo.... It was the most impressive thing I ever seen on my Amiga.

Yeah, the captures for this one came from accessible stuff (the blue/purple intro girls are taken from a James Bond opening, I think). For Nine Fingers, they captured original dancer footage instead.
