'Belt Drive' Brings up a point we've been tossing around... Some mid-drives are going to belts, I'm guessing, to cut down on noise? Has anyone tried a CVT drive on an e-bike yet? Seems it would be ideal in many ways.
Love the "Wart Hog" name! I didn't see any lights, will the production bikes have front and rear lights standard or as an option? Nice to see the belt drive on the big one!
Wow that's great for rescue operations in the wild, silent, long range, rugged and more, so good ones, also for tall people can be used on the city during week (when no lockdowns) and getting off road on weekends
The frame is ultimately all that matters on a basic ebike. Swapping out the controller, motor and display etc is relatively easy for anyone with the ability to follow directions, some DIY experience and basic tools. Just did a contoller (different brand) and display upgrade on my kids ebike this weeeknd, few hrs tops taking my sweet time.
How often do belt drives and IGHs need to be replaced? Hopefully they last longer then chains and cassettes, especially when you have that much power going through them.
Kyle I appreciate you bringing out quality bikes which push the envelope of ebikes. You do this by presenting quality bikes with great components for a very reasonable price. As I read through different bike forums I see Bolton Ebikes being mentioned in a way that shows how you are dealing with upgrades for bikes which you do not sell. I appreciate when someone like you pushes the envelope to make things better. With the new warthog you are showing that you do not have to reinvent the wheel. Keep up your great videos and podcasts. You are a recognized great bike mechanic bot you also do a good job as an entertainer as well.
I like the battery placement on this a lot. But why is there no dual suspension? Why not a front motor as well? And why is it 48 volt batteries when you could use something higher these days? Why is it capped at 28 mph when it could probably do like 33? Eh... Idk man- it's good, not great.
I live in the foot hills of the Ozarks. I'm a 72 year old Marine. My Ebike carries two 72v30ah batteries a bafang mid drive and a 8000w rear hubmotor. This let's the strength of one help the weakness of the other. plus the two independent drives means Bob always gets home. I'm also damned hard to beat across an intersection (ASI back 800, + 8000w 150 amp.)
Bob, i would like to see a picture of this bike!! You are running 2- 2160Ah batteries, this would be on average 120mile range per battery. What controllers are you running and how are you dealing with the battery drains, as well as the splits to each motor? I would really like to see your setup and how you worked out the wiring.
@@eddiebroxson6569 Hi Eddie, My phone's camera is on the blink but here's the picture....You take a BCA brand 29"21speed mtb, remove the pedal 6 assy. replace it with a bafang1000w mid drive. feed it with 72v through a ASI BAC 800 controller and NXT display(touch control. Use a NB 8000w rear hub with a 72v 150amp. controller. I use two 72v 30amp hour batteries and I combine all four pos. and negative wires with solder connectors. I use either two 72v chargers or my big 6amp into the twinned charge lines. The hub brings me up to speed then I shift to high (52/11 tooth) and let either or both take me ANYWHERE. We have a little rise/drop in Hwy 51 east of Tallequah Ok which will make you think you have fallen off the edge of the planet. It's called Eldon Hill. It smokes cheep controllers. The BCA bike is the last bike made I America and it alone has a rear axle mount strong enough to stand the 12800 watts the two systems generate. The ERT controller/display let you fine tune power to keep the old handlebar out of your teeth. The hub uses its own programmable 150amp controller. Range with pedal assist amounts to around 175 miles, probably twice that if you only use the 4800watt mid drive, good luck to you.
I just put a Warthog 1000 on order today! Test drove it yesterday, it was so awesome I had to have one! I plan on using it for rides out in Sacramento county and taking it camping. We camp on the coast and in the mountains, either way it’s going to be fun.
Tyler Koehn, My two test rides were about 5 minutes each and on the road mostly. I think the bike handled fine for its size and weight. It’s a big boy! I’m going to use it to ride around our small town and take camping in the mountains. I wanted a change from my carbon road bike. After some minor changes it should be a perfect change of pace for me when I need one. I can’t wait for it to come in. Hope this helps 👍🏻
Warthog is a good name. My uncle's online handle is Warthog Phil and he used to be a pro BMX racer. Now he's an off and on bike mechanic depending on his health because of an autoimmune disorder. His specialty is wheel building. He built me a rear wheel for a mountain bike that has outlasted 3 bikes and only had one broken spoke in close to 8 years.
I can see myself, riding one of these. Great information on these new bikes, I really like the stout build of them. Gonna check your website for more info and availability.
I was very interested in the mid drive up til I saw that it had an internal hub gear setup. Its cool but I think for my purpose it needs to have the standard mtb cassette gear setup as my setup will include using the bike to pull a trailer loaded with gear and going uphill. Torque is more important to me for this setup
Wow I would love ether of them, they look hard core! As to where would I ride them that is easy. I would put them to the test by starting at Montpelier reservoir in south-eastern Idaho. Ride to Pruse Creek trail, it allows motor bikes so no worries there. From there to the head of Pruse Creek. It is about 25 to 30 miles round trip and the return trip is almost all down hill. Second trip would be Midnight Mountain and third would be bear hallow.
I would like to ride along the Lake Michigan sandy beaches in NW Indiana, but they have pretty much eroded away ... so I really need this bike to ride the rocks
I will be riding the East Coast beaches of Florida from Daytona south!! Especially around Kennedy Space Center Port Canaveral ( cool cruise ships and Trident submarines - lots of bars and restaurants too ) Cocoa Beach all the way down past Patrick Air Force Base. And the Historic Cocoa Village a little inland. Merritt Island looks like fun as does Rockledge - long roads that run along the Banana and Indian rivers
Can you customize the wattage in the ultra motor? I need to be under 750w to be league in nh woods. I don't want to push a 500w over its limits pulling a deer on a cart up hills. What i need is a bike with a motor stamp or sticker saying 700w and a class 2 700w sticker on the frame. Thats what the game warden will look for.

I heard these belts slip anytime you go up hills. is there a way to tension set the belt. On top of that "Issue with belt is that you're then stuck with Sturmey 5sp hub. Those have a 10%+ failure rate when combined with an Ultra motor." wow 10% failure rate for $5000!
These bikes really look rugged. I would like to use one to explore the various trails here in the CA Delta. I bet they would make short work of the road up Mt. Diablo.
Would love to give this Warthog a try on a hard sandy beach, one where you could ride for miles, watching the surf in the distance, yet stopping to socialize along the way with others quite possibly interested in e-bikes as well! As well, along a forested trail, with the scent of pine mixed with fresh air and seeing sun ray's coming in between the trees!

I really like the minimalist retro style of this bike. And the two-battery range makes it great for back country or trail riding! It would also be perfect “bug out” transportation for preppers...or emergency first responders in remote areas. So many applications. Nice technology. I’m too small for the bike, but it could be an option for my Firefighter Paramedic son. Will share your video with him for sure.
How about a middle drive with a belt + a geared front wheel hub motor? 2 wheel drive provides superior tracking and traction, with the super high torque of the mid drive.
I live in Wa St., My daughter and grandson in Montreal. With the big C, Can’t get there by conventional routes, backcountry dirt may be the solution. Need the range. Who would look twice at a bicycle. Bike probably illegal in both NY and Quebec though. Just a thought.
did you accidentally leave out the part with you riding it? It seemed like there was an abrupt cut at the end, right after you were talking about it. If I had it I would ride it everywhere, but mostly owned single-track
Dude when will charge controller be available for rad runner? Website says April it’s may??? Need this bad boy controller for my radrunner I live in hills aka mountains of central Pennsylvania!
trying to get into ebikes, there so much out there and half of it from china and misslabled and expensive here in canada... been waiting over 2 months for a hub motor, and have returned 2 misslabeld speed controlers. thankfully im saving over half the price buy building my own batterry even after buying everything and tools needed to build my cells, at least then i know what it is and that its all new.
Did they copy a few designs from Gazelle dual batteries . I know this video is a year old, but it would be great if you did a comparison against the Gazelle. Distance. Speed… Thanks for the video
I just built an 1000W 48V ebike, but regreted the rear mounted battery. I am thinking of downsizing, could you please tell me how to select a frame mounted battery, and what connector should I choose?
How would these compare to the Backou Mule 1000W? I want a mid drive and the belt idea is refreshing. What is the final cost for the 1000W bike and how many Newton Watts are generated from that particular bike?
Yea! These bikes are a big upgrade in power and looks i think, two batteries are a plus for camping week ends . Real nice video and information on the new bikes. These would be great bikes in the wildernesssof the out back, camping in state parks that alow them.
Where would I go? Everywhere! I use my current ebike to go to local country parks, along coastal routes and all over the place, would love to do some of the Welsh mountains (when lockdown is over)
If it were me i'd switch out the Geared Hub motor for a Direct Drive Hub, obviously keeping within the battery and controllers specifications. Purely a personal preference thing. I really like the frame design though, good looking bike.
Those are totally rad. Man they are sharp. People who ask me about my rad rover I'm going to recommend they look into Bolton. They're like buying the everything you wanted but didn't now it. Wish I did more research but maybe someday I can step up. Love the vids.
LOVE these bikes. Particularly the mid-drive as I have joined the Cult of the Belt Drive. However I am 5'8" and I need a step through because my right leg has aged faster than the rest of my body. Although I walk daily for about an hour, I couldn't lift my leg over a typical bike configuration. Really don't care for the fact that I have to sacrifice performance for accessibility.
It’s tough to read through some of these comments from people. It’s obvious many people are ignorant of where the vast majority of acoustic or electric bikes in the world come from. It’s also obvious they have never ridden an eBike and don’t understand how you can still get a great workout in but just cover more ground and faster while doing it. I appreciate your time today in answering my questions about these bikes in our phone call. Bums me out to see people act so nasty to someone doing a video about some bike specs. People need to remember what it was like to treat others with kindness and respect.
I have a trike with a front hub motor mounted as part of a kit. All of a sudden the wire from the motor starts turning with the hub motor. It seems to happen mostly when I put a load on the motor. The motor has about 50 miles on it so far. What could cause this issue?
Great video as always! Would love one of your sweatshirts being a fan of your channel and my love for e-bikes! The dual battery mid drive Warthog really interests me! I would ride this beast on the beach trails in New England or Block Island! Looking forward to seeing you test drive the production version in a different color. Is this bike 70lbs, or more?
A thought on a future improvement to this bike. Magnet charger like the company Olight uses for it's flashlights. You don't have to worry about a plastic protective cover that can break off or not be properly reinserted, and just the mindless ease of having a charging cable magnetized to the correct position.
Is this the 'Arnold' bike mentioned in a previous video? I'm a big guy...in fact Arnold said just that to me a few years back. "You are a really big man." (Photo of him and I to prove it.) I need a bike with range, mountain trail, beach use and 300 lb cap. XXLT on the clothing too.
Belts have many advantages but one major short coming is that they tend to snap if a rock gets between a pulley/sprocket and the belt. I've snapped the belt on my Zero twice due to this and I don't ride trails on my SR street version. A PITA to replace too. Strong looking but not sure where the extra $500 is over your Fat Bike or $2100 extra over your 1000W mid drive or considerably more then the 2 wheel drive? Not to mention a weight to challenge for a lot of car bike racks, never mind two! I think most of us (me included at purchase) get hung up on range we don't need and pay extra in cash and weight for it. IMO one of your lighter bikes will eat the Warthog alive on tight technical trails. How many bent frames/forks are you seeing on the lighter bikes? I don't think added strength and associated weight is needed for most mortals not looking for massive air time with hard landings.
Hello wondering if you can point me in the right direction? I have a Red City Chopper (Redline) and it has belt drive on it and i want to convert it too electric but i have no idea where to source a sprocket to fit a Bafang motor and i also have a single speed 20" fat tire rear wheel do i need to convert to a geared hub like on your bike? any advice would be appreciated also can the cops tell the difference between a 250w motor and a larger motor? I am a big guy with a heavy bike i am doubting a legal 250w motor will get me up hills
@@Area13ebikes thanks for the response. I've done all the upgrades I can to my radrover, hydraulic brakes, larger controller, real 750w motor, 52v 20ah battery, upgraded front fork etc. It'll push 1866 watts at full throttle. And go about 36mph. But I still don't love it. I want a mid-drive. I think I want something lighter and for sure something that handles better. Trying to figure out what to do.

did you accidentally leave out the part with you riding it? It seemed like there was an abrupt cut at the end, right after you were talking about it. If I had it I would ride it everywhere, but mostly owned single-track
More to come!
Dude when will charge controller be available for rad runner? Website says April it’s may??? Need this bad boy controller for my radrunner I live in hills aka mountains of central Pennsylvania!
I would ride that bike up to the top of Huckleberry mountain in North Idaho where there is a neat old fire lookout tower! 12 miles, all uphill!
Can you do a review on a AMS-TDE-HT mid drive fat bike its like a stealth bomber but looks cooler in my opinion thanks
I live in Australia and ride the disused railway tracks which have been developed for bikes and hikers they extend for over 1000 kilometres
trying to get into ebikes, there so much out there and half of it from china and misslabled and expensive here in canada... been waiting over 2 months for a hub motor, and have returned 2 misslabeld speed controlers. thankfully im saving over half the price buy building my own batterry even after buying everything and tools needed to build my cells, at least then i know what it is and that its all new.
99.999% of bikes come from china
that battery or two are made for that frame. Down the road can they be found anyplace for this frame?
Did they copy a few designs from Gazelle dual batteries .
I know this video is a year old, but it would be great if you did a comparison against the Gazelle. Distance. Speed…
Thanks for the video
Daaang, that frame is beefy - how many inches is that downtube!? Bafang Ultra mid drive + belt drive IGH ftw!
I just built an 1000W 48V ebike, but regreted the rear mounted battery. I am thinking of downsizing, could you please tell me how to select a frame mounted battery, and what connector should I choose?
Hmm good question - That depends on a lot more factors.
Everywhere! I use my current ebike to go to local country parks, along coastal routes and all over the place, would love to do some of the Welsh mountains (when lockdown is over)
Derek Wright it will never be over unless everyone ignores it and ends it.
Great looking bike. What is the lead time for delivery? I would definitely use this to hunt wild hogs in Texas.
If it were me i'd switch out the Geared Hub motor for a Direct Drive Hub, obviously keeping within the battery and controllers specifications. Purely a personal preference thing.
I really like the frame design though, good looking bike.
Question range on the 2 battery model
Those are totally rad. Man they are sharp. People who ask me about my rad rover I'm going to recommend they look into Bolton. They're like buying the everything you wanted but didn't now it.
Wish I did more research but maybe someday I can step up. Love the vids.
Great video, sure could use these sweatshirts on chilly mornings here in the Sierras.
I did't her you about what it's the weight of those 750-1000 watt, weight I would like to now the answer. Excuse my french writing.
yes, I would trail ride in the chicago suburbs as well as a commuter mud rain sleet and snow
It would have been great to see it in action and if you would have finished talking about the size of the bike so I would know if it would work for me
LOVE these bikes.
These bikes are really big!
Does the Hub Drive model have a throttle or is it limited to PAS only ?
What’s the bike weight? Love the Warthog, amazing aircraft….
I don't get the appeal of a mid drive motor. Do they have a hand throttle? No good with a chain. Why?
It’s tough to read through some of these comments from people. It’s obvious many people are ignorant of where the vast majority of acoustic or electric bikes in the world come from. It’s also obvious they have never ridden an eBike and don’t understand how you can still get a great workout in but just cover more ground and faster while doing it. I appreciate your time today in answering my questions about these bikes in our phone call. Bums me out to see people act so nasty to someone doing a video about some bike specs. People need to remember what it was like to treat others with kindness and respect.
Really appreciate all your expertise I love my Sonders FoldX ive put 9k miles in 4 months

I'm struggling with what to choose to buy.
I've got the sonders xs fold on watch though,,,

Can a Sturmey Archer hub handle that much torque?
Are those single wall rims with holes in them for extra weakness? Is that tube showing through them?
I have a trike with a front hub motor mounted as part of a kit. All of a sudden the wire from the motor starts turning with the hub motor. It seems to happen mostly when I put a load on the motor. The motor has about 50 miles on it so far.
What could cause this issue?
Australian availability?
52v on the belt drive model would be perfect.
I'm 5'7", am I too short for this bike??
Bless You, my Man, for eschewing the use of pseudo-music or Any, distracting, intrusive, metronome-like, background sounds.
No problem at all.
What's the range on a full charge of the belt drive version?
Great video as always! Would love one of your sweatshirts being a fan of your channel and my love for e-bikes! The dual battery mid drive Warthog really interests me! I would ride this beast on the beach trails in New England or Block Island! Looking forward to seeing you test drive the production version in a different color. Is this bike 70lbs, or more?
I am interested in a belt drive.. I don't know about the 1000.. It seams like those aren't legal in most places..
So how would a the belt drive work for a hunting application ? Would it work or is it less than ideal?
How tall are you? Worrying about the standover height. Thanks!
A thought on a future improvement to this bike. Magnet charger like the company Olight uses for it's flashlights. You don't have to worry about a plastic protective cover that can break off or not be properly reinserted, and just the mindless ease of having a charging cable magnetized to the correct position.
I need a another battery for a e-Cells Super Monarch bike 52 V. They for 750 motor in front do you sell this battery.
Thanks.. I did not realize that the belts were breaking..
Would use where I live and hunt. On the Oregon coast
My fatbike is looking at me like "don't you dare replace me!"
Lemme upgrade ya! you need this bike
Mine is too, l can't go back to 48v though.
Hi Kyle, I know you are crazy busy but a test ride video review would be awesome.
I watched half of this before I realized he wasn't going to ride it. Thumbnails showed me him using it for like
How do these handle compared to the radrovers?
Better. The bike is heavier but handles as if it's lighter. You have to ride it to experience.
