  • This short video shows the entire process of making a relief engraving on a block of Resingrave, from transferring the drawing to actual engraving to printing the final edition. A Resingrave block is a synthetic material that is a great substitute for end-grain boxwood (traditionally used for wood engraving but very expensive).
    I buy my blocks and tools from McClains Printmaking Supply: www.imcclains.com/catalog/bloc...
    Other supplies I am using are a Conrad E-15 Etching Press, Black oil-based relief ink from Graphic Chemical, and Mohawk Superfine Paper..
    The LENK transfer tool I use can be found here: a.co/d/3sz4hOR
    The wooden jig that holds the blocks and paper on the pressbed is something a friend of mine made to custom fit my press. It is basically a simple frame with a cross piece attached to a thinner plywood. I hope to make a future video on how to make one.
    “FRED!” was printed in a limited edition of 90 S&N prints. They are available in our Etsy shop HERE: www.etsy.com/SpoffordPress/li...

    Fred the Bug. No matter where I go on my printmaking journey I always revisit Fred the Bug. I love this print, and I love your engraving, especially watching it come to life. I just thought you should know that, and hopefully feel joy. Thank you again Spofford Press

    I own an estate sale company, and was recently given about 100 beautiful prints to sell from an engraving artist (is that the right term?) who passed away 25 years ago. I knew nothing about the engraving process. Your video was a wonderful help in understanding the steps and the amount of effort that goes into creating the design and why each individual print has slight differences. Thank you so much.

    It came out so nice! Thanks for the video. I'm taking history this semester and they didn't really explain any of the engraving ideas, so it was very handy to see engraving in action!

    Hi Eric, Can you tell me more about the chase you had made for your Conrad? I have the same press and am SO interested in getting a chase made like yours. Thanks!

    Fred looks great! Always a joy to see your engraving and printing process. How long does it take you to print an edition of 90?

    • @SpoffordPress
      @SpoffordPress  5 лет назад +2

      Ash Flinn thank you! Printing the edition of 90 was a 13 hour day! For real! I tend to take out anything that isn’t 99% perfect as I print, so 13 hours produced an edition of 90 and about 35 duds. 😊

    How do you decide which direction to carve your lines?

    • @SpoffordPress
      @SpoffordPress  2 года назад +1

      Just depending what gives the design a nice flow. Lot of trial and error Over the years!

    Will this Acetone transfer technique work on lino blocks?

    • @SpoffordPress
      @SpoffordPress  2 года назад +2

      Yes! Tried it a few times and it seemed to work well. Not sure if a lot of acetone could potentially "melt" the resin surface on the block so I did it quick and then cleaned up!

    now that resingrave appears to be unavailable, have you run across a substitute?
