It all comes down to maintenance. You can fly a plane that is 60 years old and fly just fine if you have good maintenance and keep the plane in good condition by upgrading it.

Can I ask that how noisy the plane was? And did it have a backdoor like on cargo planes? In my country this type of plane is in the military, when I travelled with one of them it was noisy (i know, it was a cargo plane and secondary a plane for parachute jumpers from military)
