Sadly your feeling as well as my hope that ALL followers will be able to appreciate it going forward will not be the case since LDS leadership has seen fit to ban everybody without a Mormon temple recommend (which was NEVER in the original restoration doctrine) after 15 years has expired.

@@bethanydee1920 That's actually not true. They signed a contract that expires in 15 years, but the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints intends to keep it open to the public even after the contractual agreement ends. That's according to this quote I found on your church's website:
"We have a specific contractual agreement with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that extends for fifteen years. Beyond the contractual agreement we have received confirmation of the intention of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that they plan to continue to make these sites available to the public at no charge."
I do hope that helps with your concerns, and I wish you the best.

What is your source for the claim that the LDS church will "ban everybody with a Mormon temple recommend...after 15 years has expired?" I have searched and cannot find a source for it anywhere. I can understand your passion for this, if it were true.@@bethanydee1920

Speaking only on behalf of myself, I want to thank you and your entire church for being such incredible stewards of this and other properties. With today's announced changes, I truly hope we can continue to work together and foster a true spirit of brother and sisterhood amongst ourselves.

Are you thankful enough to insist that your leadership continue to allow Community of Christ members in without their temple recommend (which was NEVER part of the original restoration doctrine) after 15 years has expired? Because right now we'll be banned. And if you're not that thankful then why would any CofC member care whether you're thankful or not? I don't mean this as an insult. It's a sincere question because what possible fostering of brotherhood could this mean to you if the situation was reversed?

@@bethanydee1920 I very much doubt that a temple recommend will be required to enter the Kirtland Temple. It will most likely continue to be an historical site available for everyone to visit.

But are you "thankful " enough to insist that your leadership not ban CofC members after 15 years has expired? Because as it now stands that's exactly what will happen without a Mormon temple recommend which is an aberration of original restoration doctrine in the first place. Because if you're not that thankful then what's your thanks really about? Our future generations will not only not be welcomed, WE'LL BE BANNED!

I mourn with the sale of the temple. I hope the LDS church and its members show respect and love for not only the temple but also for us who feel a deep sense of loss. For those who are LDS, this is not a win for your church but rather an opportunity to get to know the members of our church and why we feel so strongly about what we do.

Please know that the LDS members also love these historic sites and other items. We will appreciate them and care for them. I hope you always feel welcome to visit and participate in many ways with us in these places. Years ago I had an opportunity to live near Independence, Missouri and made friends with many of your faith. We have so much in common. I really felt a special bond.

T.thompson, as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I admit that I have not thought often about the Community of Christ Church, although I grew up knowing your church as the RLDS church. Only in the last few years after moving to Missouri and taking the opportunity to travel to sacred church sites have I begun to learn a little more about your church. I would just like to tell you that while I rejoice in the news that we were able to acquire these properties, my heart goes out to the members of your church who are mourning the loss of these sacred places. Should a similar thing have happened to us, I know that my heart would be broken as well. I hope that knowing that these buildings will be honored and preserved with our stewardship, you will feel some peace. I would hope that through this purchase your church will be blessed with the influx of needed funds, but also blessed with a Brother and Sisterhood with your "cousins" in my church. May we all love one another with our united purpose of following the Savior and in preserving these sacred sites built by our ancestors (of which many are my relatives as well). We, the LDS members, can't express enough the gratitude we have for the stewardship your church has had over these landmarks. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I do not view this as a win; for I do not view this transaction as competition of any kind. Frankly, I was rather shocked to read of this transaction between our two Churches. I had no idea that anything like this was going on.
I've read the joint release of the two Churches about the transaction, and both sides expressed pleasure in going forward, each in their own way. So, from that perspective, I guess you could say that it is a win-win situation (still not a competition). I'm sure our Church will take every bit as good care of the temple, other buildings and lots in both Kirtland and Nauvoo as your Church has done for so long, as well as with all the sacred documents. Thanks to the Community of Christ, and before that, the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for taking such good care of these edifices, lots and documents.
May God be with us all in these last days, which will be upon us in full force in the not-to-distant future with all that is mentioned in the Book of Revelation; for those days will surely come, and they won't be pleasant. But the Lord has promised he will be with his people, who are those who love him. ♥♥♥

My wife and I are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We visited the Kirtland Temple seven or eight years years ago while driving from Springville, Utah to the east coast. Debbie and I were greatly impressed by the condition the Kirtland Temple was in. We were most thankful that the Community of Christ took such great care of the original temple built by the early members of the members of our Church. One of the most moving moments of my life was when the folks on our tour, under the direction of the Community of Christ volunteer, led all of us in singing The Spirit of God. I will never forget that day! Thank you very being such wonderful caretakers of the Kirtland Temple! Andy McKane, 8 March 2024, Maunaloa, Molokai, Hawaii.

Thank You Elder Mackay. We love our "Cousins" in the Community of Christ!

Your "cousins" and their progeny will be banned from entering after a 15 year period due to LDS leadership who will require a Mormon temple recommend which is an aberration of original restoration doctrine. Many CofC members don't yet realize this so please take that into account regarding your expression of support. If you really DO love us then please insist that your leadership reverse its position. Otherwise maybe just hold the platitudes online for awhile to allow us time to process this devastating news because right now I,,for one, am not feelin' the love - not even in the least.

Thank you dear brothers and sisters so so much for sharing this video with us. We love you and I'm so sorry about this situation for you all and I hope if anything this will be a way to build more bridges between our communities. We are far more similar than different and to that we should break bread together.

As a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I had heard though-out my life about the Kirtland Temple. In the Fall of 2019 I finally had the chance to take a tour of the Temple. It was amazing. The man who was our guide was amazingly well informed about everything in the Temple and of the Sacred things which occurred there. May the Lord bless you for your wonderful stewardship of the Temple, and I hope that members of the Community of Christ feel as welcome to come and tour this edifice and I did as a member of the LDS Church. Thank you again.

I use to live a few miles away when I grew up. Many years later when I visit family, there is a LDS visitor's center near by off RT 6, I stopped by and they had tour scheduled to The Kirtland Temple. It was educational, I am not Mormon.

The small door by Joseph’s desk in the third floor office lead to a crawl space where Joseph would sometimes use instead of the hallway so that he didn’t disturb the classes being taught
