    I doubt if many people realize the amount of trial and dedication a build like this entails because it's so difficult to really show all the work involved. After watching the construction videos from the early 90's, I doubted this kart would still be around. It's fun and inspiring to see it in gorgeous shape and still in the builder's hands. Huge kudos.

      Thank you for your thoughts. I very much enjoy reading all the comments. There are times where I look back at that and wonder what possessed me to take that build on. Once one gets the first ride then things seem so worth all the time invested. I always hope the younger kids that watch these vid's don't think this was my first build. They should realize that many karts were built previous to this which were all a learning experience to work my way up to this one.

    Just found this, you have a massive amount of time in it, and the finished project shows it. I love how all the gauges/lights work, and that you take the time to tear it all down to paint. I see welding, engine, machining, electrical, fabrication and body work, and it all looks top notch!

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  10 лет назад +4

      Hello stretch44875. I had built many karts in the past and wanted to create one that would exceed the past builds. My older builds looked crude but preformed nice. I actually have some 8mm video of some of them. Maybe I'll post it someday! There was a lot of things we'd weld up and didn't look strong enough or maybe perform properly so they got scrapped. I must admit I never visioned this look for the final results. I would like to Thank You for your appreciation of all the efforts involved to create the kart!

    one of the nicest go karts ive seen. with all the gauges, windscreen, exhaust... it doesn't look home made. it really looks like a production kart of sorts! great job!

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  9 лет назад

      hngarza386 Thank you for your nice comment hngarza386. There was more time invested this than a total car resto takes. So many things were unknown on how to pull it off until that day arrived. Of course then one has the things that were supposedly done but a week later didn't like that idea so... There are times too where I'll be working on a project and a friend stops in. They will actually mention a way which something could be done/look a little better. I really like when others see things that I didn't and speak up where they know that won't upset me!

    This is just an incredible build by some super talented and fun guys! So cool to watch this thing come to life through the different videos. It must be insane fun to have and drive!!

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  9 лет назад

      gratefulRed69 Thanks man! There were times that I wondered what posses one to do such a project. I do like when you get to the point where it is considered done and probably no more things will get added on or changed. I guess the best part is on how hard it gets run and stays together. It does drive great and is easy to handle with the longer wheel base and the 4 pedals. Not much time for day dreaming when your hard on the throttle tho...

      +Aeolous Sul Thank you Aeolous. It has been covered in and stuck in mud and snow, actually had a rough life at times but I try to maintain and keep it looking as never has been! Hi jethross12, Thank You - I really like the GoPro camera. You get the feeling so much more what the kart is really like!

  • @2jeffs1
    @2jeffs1  11 лет назад

    Yeah I like to run that on the edge to keep the video entertaining! Those new GoPro camera's are really additive. They include a remote now too. Mount camera anywhere & turn on / off and view status at a glance + 3 view angle adjustable. I was very happy on the mic setup too with no wind noise or volume loss where they accommodate for wind noise. The mic was a mod creation here too. Spent a bunch of time on setup's & tests. But hey - Really glad you enjoyed the vid :>)

      Thank You Joseph. When I whipped it around it was in second gear and had no trouble turning the tires so ya gotta keep it going! The day before I lost in and ended up just into the trees. I would of put that into the video but the audio was all broke up from that bad cable I showed at the end. Maybe should of put it on anyway!

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  10 лет назад

      Hi Joseph, Yes the entire build here was original design here and it wasn't my first Go kart build. It took hundreds of hours, a bit of trial & error and multiple friends would stop to see how it's coming and usually end up helping out. I look back at these projects as they beat sitting in a bar or watching TV. I love this RUclips thing as it is so educational & inspirational for people to create things. I allow every one that helped and stop in to drive it. It's actually easy to drive and brings lotsa smiles from those who do!

    Hello Jeff from SE Pennsylvania. I really like the cart and hope you’ll be able to repair or rebuild it soon. Maybe you’ve seen some comments here requesting more info on the build? Like others, I’d be very interested to know what components were used so I’ll check other vids on your channel to see if you’ve already covered this elsewhere. Thanks, and God’s speed to you for a full recovery on your loss.

      I have the Honda 200x pretty much done, Pulled the frame here. Took the kart to a car frame shop several days ago. Another friend told me that guy is really good. Black Majik Yeah - original intentions were to build a simple one seater with a big motor. Then the why not's took over and the Go Kart name still stuck with it except the girlfriend started calling it the Cadillac Go Kart! • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  10 лет назад

      patspina707 Ideally to have a narrowed posi car rear end vs the live axle setup would be the hot ticket. When both rear hubs are locked in and you are turning there is a noticeable binding - especially on the pavement - and if your pushing it by hand out of the shed. That would be neat to put into production but I'm just a small time shop here. :) But hey - glad you enjoyed the vid and Thank You for your comment!

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  9 лет назад

      +Gurman Sandhu This was a build from scratch. Never have any prints just a vision and go from there. What ever parts on hand or things I seen in the past which are cost effective/easily available is what ends up getting used. Did a lot of re-do before it was finished. Get so far, didn't like something or think of a better way, well then make some changes. We always laughed the changes off. We called it "Put the part on cut the part off" Actually at first it was supposed to be a 1 seater with no suspension. Many why not thoughts came into play while building so.....

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  10 лет назад

      Dustin Allen Hi Dustin, Glad your digg'in the vid's. Where this was built in the early 90's The build was in the area of $1,500.00 at that time. The Honda engine/trans had only 3,000 miles on it so paid a bit more cause of that. I traded the 750 Honda air cooled engine that was first installed and can't remember the exact figure. If thinking on doing a build maybe look for something with higher mileage & save some $$$. Usually the motorcycle engines just need the carbs cleaned out to run good again. Deals are out there. The problem can be being patient for them to come about....

    Hi 2jeffs1, I love the videos and really like what you do with go karts. I'm just getting into karting and I have a few questions. I was wondering if you could Turbocharge a go kart and actually get good results and if i put two 16hp engine in a kart and use tires that weigh up to about 20 pounds per tire if you think it will go fast? Thank you for the awesome Go karts and videos!

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  10 лет назад +2

      hardr0cker64 Hello hardr0cker64. Your ideas there would make for a aw sum build. I do enjoy turbocharged engines but never claimed to be an expert on them. What is more readily available is what gets used here to make the build easier & keep the costs down. If this would be your first build even keeping things more simple don't matter. The fact is that it is something you created. I hope you got some ideas on my vid's to help on your build & Thank You for watching, Jeff

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  9 лет назад

      Andrew Wallace Hi Andrew. A FYI - There were many builds prior to this one. My first ones were pretty crude looking and basic. When ever possible check out how others built things. One can learn how well things will work and the simplicity of the build done by others. Check around in your area to find things that are affordable and available & go from there. If things don't go as planed try something different. Never call that a failure. I call that a learning experience. Been there, done that....

      +More Core The engine on that is stock other than I went up 1 jet size on the main jet. Not really much for the power gain just so it runs better in the cold. I'd like to give you some good thoughts on that but never done much to those for as far as adding more power.

      ghostrider433 Great question. I still see all of them - not as often as years back tho. Sadly the one with the tattoos at the start of the first build video passed away from cancer 3 years ago. When we were in junior high he'd stop over before school and we'd be out on my first builds ripping up the yard. Yes we arrived late to school a few times! I'd love to do another build - can't say no where that's a word preferred to be avoided.

      @2jeffs1  10 лет назад

      Hi JaydenProductions. Sorry I just sold it for 50 bucks ;>) Na - just kidding too! But so much on that project was built from things laying around here that could be utilized. I knew a guy that had a motorcycle junk yard and bought some things from him. The engine was a 1986 Honda Interceptor 700 CC and the shocks were from a Honda Goldwing. Many many pieces from different things by the time it was done. I still am considering making a close up video of it somewhere in the future for a better view and understanding of the final build.

    is the setup in the rear a solid axle?

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  9 лет назад

      +BeyondTheRedLine It is setup with independent rear control arms with an integrated sway bar on a solid rear axle and the chain has never derailed. One does need a large chain to insure that. I am running a 630 chain. If you wish to see how it works/built here is a link to the video. ruclips.net/video/sWAMB4605-8/видео.html

    plz reply to me. How did you make the go kart wheel turn like a real car? I hate the go karts at places where you don't turn it a lot. Does it have something to do with the pinion and rack?

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  10 лет назад

      Hi Nate. You are right. The rack & pinion is where the extra turns to steer come in. Actually that is a car R&P in the kart. It came from a 1976 MG Midget in case you would care to look one up.

    • @generalpockets8979
      @generalpockets8979 10 лет назад

      K. So if I get a small pinion and a bigger rack it will turn like that? Also I also noticed a stick shift in there. If u installed that plz tell me how u did that.

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  10 лет назад +1

      The rack & pinion I installed was a complete assembly. I don't have any experience on changing the innards but on some racks I believe it can be done. If you were to use the 1976 MG Midget rack, yes it should steer the same as you see in my video's. Where I used a motorcycle trans/engine assembly I turned the foot shifter straight down. Then you cut it off so it's about 3'' long. Drill a hole in the end for a pivot and run a rod to the front and put a pivot on the shifter lever and a hole to mount the shift rod. Also I was thinking about producing a more detailed close up vid about the kart somewhere in the future.

    What keeps the axle centered with only 2 control arms?

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  9 лет назад

      +Tyler Luckenbill The arms have 2 pillow block bearings per arm. There is a 3/4" shaft that goes thru the arms and the bearings slide onto them. Those pillow block bearings are then mounted to the vertical frame tubing with 3/8" bolts. I do have several vid's with a close up of the rear suspension design incase would be interested.

    how much did it cist to build and was it hard

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  8 лет назад

      Hi Anthony. Never kept track of the cost to build where many of the parts used were things that were on hand here. The rims and tires were the most expensive thing and don't remember the cost where that was many years ago now. The engine was obtained on a trade for an old Honda 750 air cooled and some $ to boot. Keep in mind too that I did build multiple karts prior to this one which made it easier but still was a challenge. Some trial and error is going to be involved on these one of a kind builds!

  • @MrMarkSlim1
    @MrMarkSlim1 11 лет назад

    How long did it take for you to build this?

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  11 лет назад

      It took over a year of spare time. It started out as a single seater with much smaller wheels. We'd weld things together, didn't like it and cut stuff back apart again. Some kind of plans would of been a good idea but we had a lot of fun on the build & it had a happy ending! I do have footage of the build but it's not as clear as today's standards. (1990) Still might see if I can produce it in the future as time permits.
