Holy cow! That was amazing! Thousands upon thousands of bats! Thank you for filming that and showing us that! So freaking cool!!!! And you guys found so many echinoids! Those guys are my favorites, wow! How do you have the restraint not to pick up the broken ones? I wouldn't have been able to resist! They are just amazing little creatures! Love them! Thanks you two for a super fun and really exciting video!❤
When I was a kid, I wanted to be an archaeologist and do what you guys do and also a marine biologist. That was probably 55 years ago. I would love to come with you on one of your journeys. 😁😁😁
The bats were so awesome! Really enjoyed the islands too. I love the history you put in your videos. Both of your enthusiasm is infectious and I made me feel like I was there with you. Thanks for sharing.
Oh, my goodness that was amazing! I loved seeing all the Echinoids; however, the bats were by far the most mind blowing. I've only ever seen bats colonies that large in documentaries. Thank you for bringing us along and sharing with us your wonderful finds!
I'm sooooo glad you and Bre are ok. I've been checking everyday. The two of you are my favorite video to watch in the morning with my coffee. The bats were amazing.
Chris I'm glad to see you back putting out videos. I was worried about u bud with all the bad weather down your way. Stoked that y'all are back at it. Keep up the good work.
Bats are so good for echo system. And looks as though they are very adaptable to human structures to make themselves a cool Batcave of sorts! Nature is so good for the soul! Enjoyed your video as always! 🥰🙏
Hello I'm a new subscriber and I'm very excited to see a new video on your channel, I noticed the last video before this one was before Helene hit Florida, well I'm glad you two are safe, I really enjoy your content, I'm learning a lot of neat stuff, and as a fellow floridian It's great to see you can find treasure like this on your own back yard, I know of a friend that lives in Gainesville Fl. who as a child found a bunch of shark teeth in his back yard, I didn't believe him when he told me then I visited the museum of natural history at UF and saw that it's true. Thank you so much for sharing, awesome video and amazing ending!!!!
Thank you so much for doing this. I have enjoyed the water. The sounds. I think I even can smell the ocean silly I know that I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate what you do please do it again and again and again can’t wait. May God bless you and keep you Always.
Super love the bats! ❤🦇 Very awesome to see them come out! We have bats in our backyard and some of them roost above the back door, my Dad watches them every night.
Thanks cool video ide be interested to see an echinoid sliced open,or are they do soft to slice?it's really cool to see the wildlife dolphin, kingfisher, and especially those bats!
That was AWESOME! I love bats. Here at my house, in Belleville, MI, we get 3 or 4 every summer and I watch for Larry, Curley, Moe and sometimes Shemp!!
The Congress Street bridge in Austin Texas, basically downtown, has the most impressive river of bats I have seen; although the bats at Carlsbad Caverns are also quite impressive.
I've been catching up on so many of your adventures. Your enthusiasm, excitement and knowledge is very entertaining and educational. Have you ever done a talk or detailed video on the types of finds and timeline of the different eras those finds are from. It would be great to hear your talk about the finds and how they sit in the timeline. I'll keep digging as it may be sitting in here already. Thanks
OMG what beach are you on in florida? I live in titusville, and we definitely do not have rocks like that, LOL we only have Coquina rock! I have never found a whole Sea Biscuit much less a fossil of one! I've even been shelling over in sanibel, I live in Titusville right by the Indian River and we have islands like that out here, I'm going to go check but I know I won't find those LOL❤❤❤ make sure to shuffle your feet😂 2:41 Well that was too funny, as soon as I said make sure to shuffle your feet you explained it to her
The bats were awesome. My husband and I like going to Carlsbad NM. They have this huge cave there and every evening the bats leave and it’s amazing, just like what you see there. Although you can actually get a little closer but the smell when they leave the cave is really strong. They don’t smell good. I grew up in SC on the coast around Beaufort. I have found those fossils there on occasion. I always thought they were some sort of family to the sanddollar. The little islands there are great. It would be so fun to explore them. On the first island with the mattress and chairs, how would it have been to come upon Wilson sitting in one of the chairs??!! 😂. You know? Right? 😂😂
One of those big echinoids are totally on my bucket list. I always forget when I'm at the fossil show every year to look for them but I only find them polished generally
I have been out to those same islands. Those matrix ones cleaned make the best specimens. They have not been weathered at all and come out pristine. You can remove matrix with a 6" wire wheel mounted to a motor. I used a coarse steel wheel for roughing off the matrix fast then switched to a soft brass wheel to finish. The brass wheel will polish the echinoids too. When you find a cluster of them in matrix you can remove matrix and leave 3 or 4 of them sticking out of a clump of matrix, It is easy to flatten the bottom too so they display nice.
This is my third comment, this is my first video on your channel I've seen, I absolutely think y'all are are absolutely adorable and awesome I love how excited you get, the baby of the shells are just the coolest! I got to know where you were!❤
Nice video! I used to be in the US Coast Guard and we would get calls all the time that someone hit a sandbar. Well they didn’t hit a sand bar, they pulled up to an island, didn’t read the tides and came back to their boat completely out of the water 15 yards from the water. All we could do was take the back to the station and they had to wait out the tide cycle. Happened all the time!
The little shell you found was from the Euthymella species, if im not mistaken it's probably the Elongata...there are many which are similar. You should definitely go back and camp there. An amazing place. Thank you for sowing us the Bat's so cool 😊
There is a bridge in NC on the Outer Banks that has a huge colony of Purple Martin birds that do this in reverse. They all come back to roost at sunset.
That was classic Chris and Bri! Love watching the two of you getting your science geek out on while showing your love. It's good to see what appears to be a robust and healthy colony when so many species are T&E. And our incoming government could care less.😢😢 Thanks for the escape guys.❤🎉
They are Brazilian Free-tailed bats (Tadarida brasiliensis)! We’re also thrilled to see something thriving like this. They do appear to be very healthy (there’s no shortage of bugs to eat around here!) Thanks for watching the video.
@@PaleoCris !!!!AWESOME ADVENTURE!!!! Honestly, it's SOOOO COOL to see you two out & about in a different environment. I hope ya' do more island scavenging like this. Also, it would be additionally interesting to know more about any of the fossils you're finding. Such as the time period they lived, their habitat & what creatures preyed on them as a food source, etc. Photos of what they looked like when living would be VERY INTERESTING as well. THANKS FOR ALL you both continue to create & post for us to enjoy. Best regards from Yucatan Mexico, Ben PS: Hey Bri...I believe your new "buddy" is a Common Bluebill Duck...decoy. They are diving ducks & avidly hunted along The Gulf Coast.
Hi you Two! is the water that color because of the storms yet? if you in the gulf, the water is normally clear so i'm just guessing. Mother Nature will repair itself :)
This was a great video, but what I really appreciated seeing was all those bats. So many places have been devastated by the disease call "White Nose Syndrome" that has literally wiped-out at least 6-million bats across the United States. This showed up in 2006 on the East coast and has spread across the US to the West coast and even into Canada. A lot of caves have been closed to prevent the spread of this disease, because if you've gone into an infected cave and then going into another cave that hasn't and you don't "properly clean your equipment and clothes" you will have spread it to more bats sealing their fate as well. It is a fungus called Pseudogymnoascus destructans. This primarily affects bats during hibernation causing them to wake up more often during the winters resulting in them using up their reserves causing them to die of starvation in their sleep, and it damages their wings and skin due to damage to their blood vessels too. The good news for You there does not appear to be any know cases in Florida as of this date. Bats are essential for a stable environment as they consume tons of insects controlling their populations naturally.
As a member of the DVPS, I went on a Florida collecting trip in the mid ‘80’s. I got to collect with an old timer named Marshal. He took us to islands off of Yankeetown Florida, where we found massive amounts of Eupatagus echinoderms. I prepped them with low grade phosphoric acid. They came out perfect.
The big ‘ol classic echinoid Eupatagus Antillarum’s are plentiful! My favorite. Are some of the smaller ones Durhamella ocalana? Main question: how did they get there? Are these island “renourished” with quarried Eocene epoch material for beach stabilization? (Another) amazing video ya’ll, thanks a million!
The bats were seriously cool! Always love hanging out with you two! Have a wonderful week out there!
Yay!! It's the dynamic duo. My favorite couple along with the wild man and his good lady. Made my night when I saw your notification ❤❤
This was such a fun day! The bats are something I thought I would only ever see in a nature documentary, it was so magical to witness! 😊💖

Bats, too cool for words. Thanks for sharing.
I think that gastropod shell at the ~18:30 mark is a kind of Wentletrap? Rare and coveted. Nice!
Thank you guys for another fascinating adventure.

I have found some here in crystal river Florida. Awesome channel guys!
Several sand bar islands off the western coast of the big bend of Florida contain numerous Eupataygus antilerum echinoids. Used to pick up dozens.

Yes they are! Thanks for watching.
The horse shoe crab is most likely a molt!
Gotta love the bats! 'They' say, a single bat will eat roughly its body weight in bugs each night!
Nice finds too!

YEA ITS BATS! I live in Austin where our Mexican bats come out every night! It’s amazing
That’s awesome, I heard that there is a massive colony over there! I didn’t even realize we had them here in FL until I saw this. Thanks for watching!
I’d be off that first island in a heart beat. 😆
🤣 I also found a jug of sweet tea that did not look old. We were off of there quickly 😁

Amazing that y’all saw the Dolphin feeding in the wild ❤❤❤
It was very cool! We’ll go back with some better equipment sometime and try to film it a lot better. I think they do it there every day.
