Perhaps the most creative, innovative, inventive work the Beatles ever produced - basically giving birth to what we call Heavy Metal Music. However, there was an evolutionary process that worked toward the development of this song of "Helter Skelter" - "Revolution." "Get Back," "Birthday" and perhaps other songs as well. As Paul (who was the major author of the song) stated - he simply was hoping to stay ahead of The Who - and did he ever. Now that is not to over shadow The Who - they too were a great rock band. The entire Beatle era was perhaps the most innovative and creative period in musical and cultural history - at least in my life time. The public was both enriched and outraged by what was becoming a major post World War industry (England's best export) - rock music. Too bad there was so much public hysteria being generated from that level of creativity - I think it truly wore down each of them to the point - it was no longer fun for them as a group. Paul went on with the strongest work ethic - and thus the most commercial success - he kept the Beatle sound alive for us all to enjoy. "Do you. do you, want me to LOVE you." In every creative lyric and melody - the prevailing theme - was LOVE. And I loved every minute of what the Beatles entertained us with - too bad my parents did not enjoy it with me - I never understood their fear of this wonderful art - I suppose that World War II was such a rampage of birth from the public hysteria over the German people's admiration of the frantic years of Hitler's rise to power - that the Beatles perhaps reminded that generation of the same kind of gathering - I really don't know what my parents thought other than they express disgust of the Beatles and posted Elvis as being better. I think Elvis was great - just as I think the Beatles were creative. I could enjoy both. And it seemed a natural course of musical evolution for Pink Floyd to explore the human frailty of the mind going insane as the members of the band witnessed their friend Syd Barrett losing control. Perhaps creativity comes with a heavy price - our society does not really have an answer for our Starry Starry van Gogh's. Perhaps one day - if we hold out HOPE and LOVE - the answers will follow - and if certain we can put hate behind us.
