I tend to play as the French on Governor. I always sell my tools to the Indians preferably for £1k then buy some more and trade goods and do it again, try and rush to a galleon.
This is the only version of this game worth playing. I tried some of the updated versions, and much like Tropico, the original is so much better. Thanks for posting this.
If you had created the colony on the tile just south east it would have access to two fish resources. Once the dock is built, one expert fisherman in each fish would produce enough food to sustain the colony probably up to 12 people or more. Plus that tile can reach the home port in just one turn. Also, furs are the most common resource in the game, so much the price will drop quite fast even if not exploiting the beaver/deer tiles.
The 1994 MS-DOS game IS NOT DEAD. Yes Civilization IV - Colonization, the 2008 remake, was BAD but now, after all this time, we got something close to perfection. We The People 4.1 (2024), best mod for Civilization IV - Colonization. Jump from 20 to 99 ressources, with all buildings/professions associated, new core concepts for colony management like healthcare/culture/law/happiness. Colonies can exploit 2-tiles radius now, you can then develop vertically if you want. Tons of events during your play forcing you to make choices all the time. You can build a very complex economic system and automate it. New victory conditions for different gameplay. New leaders of course, new tactics. New military or civilian units/chips. So many things I don't remember anymore. Piracy, slavery, all aspects are deeper and more respectful to history rather than political correctness ! You can have famous actresses or dedicated "sex workers" to raise happiness in your colony. You can go FULL slavery if you want, and can maintain order or compensate for happiness "issues". Nothing is free. Total different game and most of all : correctly balanced like the MS-DOS version was originally, but without exploits and serious tactical gameplay. Like you can't have an infinite number of troops/ships in a colony. There is a limitation depending on the level of your port (logic). Try it for nostalgia or else, the community is active (forum/discord) and ready to help. Installation is fairly simple (copy/paste). It's just astonishing to see this old idea, this old excellent game completely alive and better than ever ! A pure gem for any 4X gamer.
Just starting the Original Colinization game... Never played it when I had my Amiga many years ago. Played one Version of Civ on the XBox maybe 10 Years ago so its been useful to watch this and get a refresher. Trying to place your accent Malforian... Sounds like your from Merseyside..? I'm on Wirral myself. Thanks for putting this up!
Good Man yourself @@Malforian for keeping the Amiga Flag flying...Used to love my Amiga back in the Day... I'm playing an Amiga Version through an Emulator on my P.C - Plays the same as you are shoving in the Video but looks different... what version / platform is the one you are playing in the Vid?
When I was young, I have never noticed the hidden resources pattern : land : 4 blocks to west from pine tree, feather, dear or ore sea : 3 blocks to the west from a fish if it is not a pair of an land bonus what you can check 4 blocks to the east
Having played this version for years and still going strong, i find the civ 4 version really hard to play, everything looks the same to me on it, i can't differentiate the terrain properly.
I liked playing as the Dutch for the trade bonus. Great game ☺
The memories this brings me. I used to play this when i was still a student in highschool. Have fun with this classic!!

OMG, I loved this game so much, almost 30 years ago🤔🤔🤔
I have cozy memories of playing this on my 386sx

Yeah definitely lessons learnt on how quick some things devalue especially
Such a classic!
The Civ 4 version was pretty good too.

I'm gonna have to give that a try then, such an underrated game
A true classic. My dad introduced it to me 😂

Amiga 1200 was the days, playing Railroad tycoon, Civ and Colonization all day lol
I played this on the version GOG is selling, runs on Dosbox for PC

I remember there was an remake version of this game alongside Civilization 4 that I used to play. I had alot of fun with it as well.
Yeah the standalone expansion for 4 is alright
the remake is cheaper on steam, than the dosboxed steam version.
Still a fun game and it works.
If you enjoy trade and city building you should check out Anno 1800
I have played that it's a good game, I should give it a try again with all the dlc

Yeah I can't get used to the civ 4 version either
i didn't knew you could find two fountain of youth in the same game.
I was playing a game the other day and it happened again back to back like 25 turns into the game
@@Malforian maybe a patch changed it from back then ?
Yeah no idea I remember back in the day it was super rare, probably just random chance
@@MalforianI recall the same thing happening in one of my games years ago.
LOVE IT

I still feel Conquest of the New World is a superior game comparing to the remake of Colonization
