Detectorists, Best thing ever written on the bbc for many years, A massive hit for everybody, Just Amazing. And this track will never be laid to waste. Stunning :)
I agree - well put.
Well said. Best show since Only Fools. A timeless masterpiece that will entertain generations to come.
I agree. I've literally just come across this jam. Like, last night. Also on Detectorists. For someone who's been listening to Hip Hop for almost 40 years this was something very different. What a nice surprise.
Detectorists is a real high BBC high - utterly wonderful. Treasure the BBC.
@@michellerogers6566 I wish life could workout just like there's did
Much deeper than just music, goes straight to the soul.
So glad Detectorists used it. The finishing touch to the finest 3 series I have ever seen on TV.
Couldn't say it better - loved it.
I used to sing in a group with Rachel. Love seeing the Unthanks doing so well. Especially the fact they're keeping traditional English music alive.
I love their north east accents - native English voices, beautiful.
It is the south eastern dialect that bears more originality, anthropologically.
@@firstnamelastname59 they most sing Northumbrian folk music, so Northern Englander is correct...oh, and they were born in Tyneside ....
yes mate...perfect for this style of music...
@@cronas2 how utterly splendid
@Eostre of the East are you kidding man?
I still listen to this 7 years later. Possibly my favourite Jools performance!
I can't be the only one with shivers running down my back now?
just a spider
You're not my friend
No, when I first heard this song it was this performance on 'Later'. I was 'spellbound' by it. The music and the singing works on the emotions.
Goosebumps is a natural reaction to the Unthanks harmony.
Worzul Gummidge got me here!!! Merry Christmas to one and all...
As one who 'scrapes the dirt off dirt' I was completely enchanted by Detectorists...and this wonderful singing! Archaeology is the way to go though, just so long as you don't mind being broke.
Those voices are rich and powerful. Proper music, authentic story telling, and supreme performers. Thanks the UnThanks
Lots of shivers! And the North Eastern accent lends itself beautifully. Some of those close harmonies.... 😘Thanks to the little gem which is Detectorists, I found this little gem. Lots of treasure one way or another!
Beautifully atmospheric. Should you ever get the chance I recommend listening to this driving west along the North Norfolk coast from Cromer to Bingham during the fading light of a beautiful December sunset. This was the soundtrack of my recent break in Walsingham. Haunting and beautiful. ✌🏻❤️
@@johnreeves6286 Thanks John, I’ll have a look at that. All the best! ✌🏻❤️
As we get older life gets thinner but the past gets thicker, richer and perhaps more interesting. I'm lucky to walk the dog where I hear and see birds of prey over land that so from the past. Detectorists is such a subtle nudge
What do I know, that's a copout, doesn't this get you?
Love your ageing imagery as I loved this series and this particular song.
Richard - That first sentence - Is it yours? That is a brilliant comment!
stunning . . . I am a convert. Thank you Detectorists.
England raw and proud. Beautiful. My children are 9 and 7, this has sparked an interest in them for traditional British music. Of all our countries treasures this can't be stolen.
Unlike the Elgin Marbles or the Koh-I-Noor then!
J Nicolson indeed so. well said :)
erm. may i suggest that a study of ' the history and evolution of folk music throughout the world' may be of interest to you. i'll send you the link, you will be amazed at how/why the unthanks sound like a family from georgia. the uk does not own the 'treasures'. your kids of 9 and 7 are, hopefully aware of this...folk music yes, 'british music' erm...the clue is in the name 'folk' :) hope this helps
@@gramule you talking about trio mandeli? Yes there's grait folk music from around the world but you can't beat the flavour of home. can you?
@@gramule - do you mean Georgia in the USA or Georgia the country?
if you mean the USA then wtf - the music sang there originates from the UK and Ireland as well as parts of Europe - think about it mate and it's obvious which came first. But since England has been invaded by many countries - Denmark and France to name two, our music has influences from these cultures - the North East accent comes from the Viking settlers a thousand years ago.
Eerie to enjoy such haunting harmonies.
Live in a flat with a small balcony but I get regular visits from a pair of magpies "Plonk & Thud" 'cause I "always leave a little bit 'o meat for the bird that's black & white"...They are my joy.
Absolutely superb. Another brought here by detectorists. That program is pure class so what does that say about you? 10/10.
A haunting song. Can almost imagine yourself taken back to the dim and distant past
Came across this on The Detectorists tonight. Brilliant. Ireland here, we’ve more in common than we might think.
Such a soulful and beautiful song. Amazing harmony
One of the best written, directed and acted pieces of story telling about these Isles, ever told on TV
Gorgeous
Spine chillingly beautiful.
Goosebumps and jawdropping
Wonderful song, wonderful voices. Detectorists was the best thing on tv since...since...a long time. It’s originality was exceptional apart for the superb cast.
Wow just seen this song on bbc program. Got their name on the credits. I adore folk music. And had added this group to my playlist. So happy to have found them. Beautiful.
Bloody love this, beautiful. Feels like going back to a better time.
Worzel Gummidge brought me here, too! Fantastic. Festive Greetings to all.
wow - ! thanks for whoever posted this- surely redefining harmony singing for the 21st century - bringing the harmony to the fore and making it so beautifully layered and the harmonium, so simple yet effective
oliver coates If you can check out "I Wish" by The Unthanks, that's a stunning song too.
Julian Edmonds OOOps, it's I Wish by Rachel Unthank and The Winterset.
Just leaves you in a trance listening to it...brilliant 👏👏
This Unthanks performance is just sublime
Fantastic show because everyone who stars in it are genuinely nice people.....must have been a blast to work for
I’ve had the pleasure of seeing this performed live. It sent shivers down my spine
Me too...Class!
Beautiful voices. Loved them on Worzel Gummidge singing Nancy Where You Bound To
I'm currently reading Wakenhyrst by Michelle Paver, and there's a magpie in it, so this song is the perfect soundtrack!! Great folk song by a fantastic band.
stunning and beautifully performed.
Mystical. Beautiful. Amazing. X
Beautiful singing, as always in their own wonderful voices.
This does not take you back to another time it is something that resonates through all ages and all time it is this which holds us together as humans and it is this which holds the key to our collective future.
Beautiful song, haunts the depths of the Heart in such a lovely way

I am so pleased to have found this group. They remind me so much of Anna and Elizabeth

Beautiful and haunting.
Best folk band this country has ever produced
Written by Davey Dodds, Formerly the frontman of Prog band Red Jasper and now both The Porbeagles and Stargazey
Meet this man at port Isaac yesterday, such a lovely man now blessed with his music.
It sounds like it was written hundreds of years ago, like a pagan hymn. Amazing.
Absolutely stunning
Spectacular, spinechilling, spellbinding and other words beginning with s
Love this.
This touches my soul.
Detectorists bought me here! Spooky, medieval melody!
This is the closing credit song for true detective night country season 4. Eerie and atmospheric. Beautifully performed.
Reminiscent of beautiful Georgian harmonies....Absolutely delicious
One of the best pieces I have ever heard
I first heard 'Magpie' on the brilliant doco 'Woodlands Dark and Days Bewitched - A History of Folk Horror'. It's played over the opening credits & is so appropriate.
uauuu, me dejó en silencio, just silence, great and beautiful voices
Looking forward to seeing you at St Georges church in Beckenham this summer. It will be magic!
True Detective - Night Country. Towards the end of esp 1. Recognised it immediately. Such a beautiful piece of music
Astonishing, superb.
Used to live just off the Unthank Road in Norwich and... Fairport Convention.
Here the thing that gets me. This little part of Detectorists tells me almost stronger than anything else I have ever seen that we are all part of a continuum and we should both rejoice in the past and never fear the now or the future... it's all OK
absolutely bloody brilliant hugs sara
SPOOKY song love it.👍🔥💥
I love Becky and Rachel. Am going to see them Tomorrow at The Royal Festival Hall. I can't wait.
I'm seeing them (finally!) this coming Sunday after so long!
Stunning!
How can you dislike this?
Detectorists bought me here.
Me to
And me
dfcvda Same here. The magic of somone chosing the right song for the right programme. If all folk was as good as this, I'd investigate it more.
Same here, UTTER GENIUS
Yep, brilliant programme, brilliant music
Loved that. Brilliant.
Radcliffe and Maconie brought here ten or more year's ago on their Radio 2 Show. I've always had a soft spot for The Unthanks and was thrilled to bits when it was featured on The Dectorists,, one of my favourite comedies, or is it a come drama? who cares? beautiful whatever.
This is a stroke of genious
Disturbing but so hauntingly beautiful.
Great modern Folk music... Amazingly dark sounding references to English Pagan religion...
Ahhhhhhhhh, the Geordies do us proud. Beautiful
They are magical I love them
Absolutely brilliant.
Now on True Detective series 4! Brilliant.
A beautiful haunting ballad, off to iTunes Store it is then.
