Thanks its interesting to hear the other side of the culture war. I just discovered Al's hilarious interview with John Lennon, this was a fun sequel. Wish he had a show interviewing all the woke hippies from his era, he is a funny guy.
Al Capp was a boorish pig who was arrested and tried for displaying his genitals to a woman he was trying to "seduce." Goldie Hahn said he did the same thing to her at 19, thinking his celebrity status and the sight of his penis would impress her. His once funnycomic strip collapsed in the 1970s when it degenerated into hateful right wing bombast. He was dead by 1977 due to alcoholism and chain smoking. A self-destructive bully like Rush Limbaugh.
george beotes I disagree. He accused them of doing their ridiculous stunt for money. No, it cost them money. They did it to sell Beatles records. No , Beatle records sold in the millions. He spoke down to them, he insulted them. He bullied them. He didn't win.
Howard Stern gets big ratings because people want to hear what outrageous things he will state, Capp knew he had to do this as well as if he did not state similar outrageous things like masturbating, no one would come to hear him speak. When you eliminate such entertainment "boorish" talk, you get a very considerate and knowledgeable person, but came from a time in society where it was "acceptable" to sexually harass women and not to much different than the cavemen type of character he drew in Lil Abner who would grab and force themselves on female characters. On the other hand, plenty of such female characters would fight back and bash such men's heads in the comic strip which was acceptable then, and sadly is not today.
Joanie Phonie story begins at 9:31.
Google 'Goldie Hawn and Al Capp'
He's a deplorable man. Just watched the Goldie Hawn interview. Everyone should take a minute to watch it. He's disgusting!
This guy sounds exactly like a used car salesman.
"The way things are going they're going to crucify Capp" ~ John Lennon
I wonder what he would say about the media today.
It's seems pretty obvious "the questions" were prepared by Capp - it sounds like a well - honed act.
Great and intelligent visionary.
And rapist
Did Capp ever publicly acknowledge Frank Frazetta for his years of work ghosting the artwork on the strip?
EVS inadvertently sent me here

Capp BLEW Lennon/Ono 'out of the water' in that BED (LAM) interview!!!
Didn't he though? JL might as well not have shown up!

Los "Angeleless?"
A sexual assaulter right there.
What begins at the 11:38 mark is top drawer Capp!
He speaks of a Bobby Dylan Fan Club at the 12:30 mark.
Al Capp was intelligent and a very talented cartoon artist
I LOVED Al Capp's "Lil Abner" -- but he was a real disappointment when he confronted Al Capp. It was ugly, boorish, and uncomfortable.

"refrain from obscenities..."? Must've bombed at Cal Berkeley.
