I've had my eye on this jacket for a while, but like you point out the lack of waterproofness and feeling the wind puts me off. It's a shame because I like helikon stuff. Congratulations on the 1K mate 👍

Hey Steve thanks man, appreciate you dropping by. I could be wrong and it could be totally waterproof now I’ve waxed it. I just don’t think the back panel will stay dry in a massive downpour. It hasn’t been tested to be fair. The pilgrim could all be waxed though so would solve that issue if you did want one. Or you can do what I do and have a poncho for those times the heavens might open 😁

Yes that’s right Paul, the wax comes in a bar like soap, so I laid the jacket out on my table, and then just started rubbing it into each panel. Once I’d done a panel, I then get a hairdryer and melted it into the jacket. I’d say you need to do each panel 3 times before it’s good to go. Takes a while so set out a few hours, or do it over multiple days 👍

British army windproof smock, or one of the many smocks similar to it done by different companies? The original is 50/50 % poly-cotton I think, but a bit water resistant straight from the store and you can always wax or impregnate it with something. Most others seem to be poly-cotton in varying percents too or 100 % cotton or 100 % polyester. Many pockets, a big hood, full zip, up to your thigh.
Originals are something like 35-55 euros in surplus stores, depending on condition. Mil-tec makes them for like 55-65 euros, Helikon for a bit more but the quality is better...
