- Hey, My name is Tom. I don't know about you but I find myself wanting to DO everything myself. I consider myself a Jack Of All Trades. Master of none. What you'll find here will be anything from building or fixing cars or trucks, building or remodeling projects and everything in between. I get myself into some pretty interesting situations.
I'd love it if you subscribed so we can stay in touch... You might even learn something. I know I will!

Honestly, a series of what every young person needs to know before moving out on their own. What you would want your kids to know. Changing a tire. Fuse box. Hanging a picture. Caulking. Changing a light fixture. Swapping out a faucet. Toilet repair. Basic home and car maintenance. And a playlist for these things too!
Yes! This is a great idea! I actually did this for my kids a couple years ago. We always pick a different themed project to do in the summer and that year we had a "summer of life skills". Each day during our 60+ days of summer break we showed our girls how to do something. They were 8 and 11 at the time and still remember many of the things we taught them but we'll probably need to go over some of the things again!
Yes, teach Adeline how to change a tire.
How to change a door lock!!!
I TOTALLY agree!!!
Headlight replacing! Lol
How excitting!
- How to paint cabinets successfully?
- how to fix a dripping from the spout faucet.
-how to jump a car?
- anything auto related ?
- tips on detailing vehicle?
A video on your favorite tools would be awesome.
I am so excited for daily videos!!
-Replacing a door from start to finish (interior or exterior)
-patching drywall holes (bigger than a quarter and smaller)
-replacing an electrical outlet
-replacing a lightswitch
-Leaking kitchen or bathroom sink pipes
-Anything car related that would save me a trip to the mechanic.... cars are scary.
And really anything in your office building that needs done because Dawn would be so happy if you crossed a bunch of those things off the list in the next 3.5 weeks!! Lol We will learn anything along with you!!
+1 to replacing a door interior and exterior!
Make that +2! I need to replace my front door soon
Can you show how to re-caulk a shower and/or shower drain?
Why did you ever hesitate being in front of the camera Tom? So personable, so handy and so encouraging! Love all the ideas posted. Looking forward to seeing the fixes.
Even a daily short would be cool.
Ideas: how to fix a dripping faucet, how to fix continuous running toilet, remove and redo caulking, how to change oil in car, what else to check in car to be winter/summer ready, what to pay attention to when towing a caravan (weight etc), what not to say to a woman 😂
Repair hole in drywall. Install garbage disposal. Paint and prep needed. I’m totally amazed how the average person has never painted. It’s such a cheap update. Love your channel. Was one of your early subscribers. ❤
Oh yes! Repair drywall. You know, where the bedroom door knob hits the wall, lol!
@@carrie3206
and how to install a doorstop to prevent it happening again 😊
Yes! How do you remove those metal anchors that spread apart without making a huge hole in the wall?
How to replace a shower head. It's a handheld sprayer. My husband just isn't doing it.
It's basically screw off the old one and screw on the new one. Read the instructions that come with the new head. Some brands will say to use plumber's tape while others will say not to. I replaced mine. Hope this helps.
@cyndij8312 That's what I thought but the last time I tried any plumbing it was leaky.😁
@@Baileybooandechoget some Teflon tape
@leviad424 might have needed to be tightened a little more. I have a handheld sprayer, too, and I think that one said not to use tape. If you buy a new one, just check the instructions. I'm not that handy but I know you can do it.
Caulk video: 1) caulking tools/features;
2) Selecting the right caulk for the job (tub, sinks, kitchen counters); 3) how/when to remove old caulk; 4) how to caulk kitchen, bath surfaces, baseboards/other surfaces; 5) using backer rod with caulk to fill large gaps
Yes, caulking!
I'm female need to know how to change out bathroom faucets snd kitchen faucet please HELP ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great idea, Tom. You have a door that needs a door knob and I need to know how to do that.
hahaha!
😂
I think you need a bathroom in the shop so you don't have to run back to the house while you're working. I would like to see how windows go in from start to finish. I've got a wall with T-111 siding on the outside that I want to put a window in.
Yes, how to put in new windows! Our whole house will need windows and we'd like to get them little by little like you guys did at the home outlet store and install them ourselves.
He’s putting in a sink and floor drain. (No bathroom needed!)😂
I love this idea. My thoughts are:
Replace a bathroom or kitchen faucet.
Put up a ceiling fan with a light.
Replace a toilet
Any home maintenance issue would be great!
Ditto in the faucets!
Good call on the ceiling fan with light!
Yes!I need to learn how to replace my bath faucet… Then I can remove the sink and base, fix the floor, and be able to get it back to working condition afterwards… The floor and taking out/putting back the sink and base I know I can handle… the faucet is a totally different story!
I agree, especially about replacing a toilet, you'd be horrified at the price I've been quoted so I would really like to see how complicated it would be to do myself.
Bi fold door. I was quoted $500.
I would like a video on how to keep my cutting tools sharpened and what to do it you have rusty pruning loppers. Got left out in a rainstorm LOL.
Wow... that's a HUGE space to heat! Better put a bathroom in, Tom... just think about it...👀
I was going to suggest same! If not full bathroom at least a shower. We have a half bath in our shop and I’ve always regretted we didn’t plan for a shower. And a dog wash station!
How to hang things using wall anchors.
I think you are exactly what young men need to hear. Many of them have no fathers and need direction. I think you are brilliant and "Rusty Judgement" is not portraying you for who you actually are. You may come across issues that need to be redirected but you Tom, always comes up with a solution. Best wishes I think there is a huge market for someone like you.
Not just men/boys need to know this. I am a 60+ Lady and would love to know. I think I can do it, too! Jane
Women need to know this stuff too. Many women are homeowners and don't want to have to call a man to help with repairs. It's nice to be independent.
men and women!
Replacing or moving or adding a light switch. Thanks for asking!
Replacing 90's fluorescent tube lighting in the kitchen with can lights.
Hanging blinds. Installing curtain brackets. Shampooing a carpet. How to jet wash. I can think of so many things that I think people should know how to do.
Yeah! And then, to get rid of that extra stuff at the end so that they hang nice.
yes, jet wash . . . is that with a pressure washer? . . . can I use that to remove green moss build up on my house siding?
What will you keep in cold storage?
I think many homeowners could benefit from learning how to install a French drain. We had standing water behind our house every time it rained. We put in a French drain, which has continued to work for more than 40 years.
Would LOVE a simple 'car maintenance and trouble shooting" series. The basics of what to do before you take it to a csr shop and pay thousands! :)
Please include windshield wiper replacement, headlight and taillight replacement (bulb and maybe housing too), re-adhearing car headliner, and reattaching rear view mirror to windsheild!
Probably best to do a search for your specific auto & problem. There’s some really good mechanics on YT. Always read to see if they have have hundreds of comments saying “It worked!”.
Short video repairs:
Change light switch
Change electrical plug
Replace light fixture
Proper wood sanding technique with what grades of “grit”
Inflate car tires-best tool to help and where to find how much air to put in
Clean inside of a CAR front window. I can’t reach the bottom of the glass-ever. :(
I’d love to see videos on how to adjust interior doors (house settled), creaky floors (plywood subfloor under carpet), and easy raised garden beds with VERY rudimentary woodworking skills.
yes yes yes......how to adjust the interior doors!!! Help me please!!!!!!!!!
I want to install new interior doors and no one wants to work/can’t get contractors where I live!
Yes! And sliding pocket doors! Ours is rubbing weird and makes so much noise and can’t figure out what to do about it!
I'd like to learn how to install a new kitchen faucet, bathroom sink faucet and bathtub faucet, handle and showerhead. Also how to install new toilet flange and wax ring.
I would love to see step-by -step instructions on how a woman with limited skills and strength could change out one of those round flush-mount ceiling lights. The kind that have a crude nickname nowadays, lol. I'd like to put a different flush-mount ceiling light there. Is it a one person job?
I love your idea of doing instruction videos! I've shared your channel and Eric's with my sons and brother, and they are enjoying them, too.
Anxious for you to finish your shed for yourself! I agree with some of the other asks. Also, how to fix a leaky sink faucet.
Replace faucet on bathroom sink. Switch the shower head. Love this idea! Good luck on 50k!!
Oh my gosh!! This is awesome!!
All the things: change tire, replace battery, alternator, starter, more easy stuff on fixing cars.
Doorframes, window frames, slabs, replace faucet, fix disposal, replace/fix toilet, basic plumbing, tile…. Basically how do you build a house?! Lolol no pressure!
Congrats Tom! You have just recieved everyone's to-do list!!😂. How to replace a bathroom fan with proper venting😊
Haha! It's true, though. I need to install two of those, but they aren't replacements. The bathrooms have windows, but that sucks in winter.
I will watch daily with great pleasure! Anything you post. Trying to get my nephew to watch and join. How your entire family ended up so personable and watchable is beyond me but all of us on this channel look insanely forward to Fridays!!!
You should put a half bath on the shop
What’s cold storage ?
I look forward to Fridays too!
What to do when the screws in a door hinge have stripped the holes.
Get wood glue & toothpicks, coat the toothpicks in glue, shove the hole full, then you can put the screws in again... this trick works every time. I got it from a carpenter, & I've used it dozens of times; it's one of my favorite hacks!!
Good luck...
Some ideas: how to wire a lamp/make a lamp out of a vase; how to trim trees and bushes; checklist of things to maintain on a car if you don’t know much about the topic
You're going to be busy the next 3 weeks! Dawn, keep the coffee coming!😂
I'd love to see:
- How to hang a hook on a hollow core door
- How to change a bathroom exhaust fan
Can't wait for the daily videos!
Yes! Exhaust fan. We have a really old light in our shower and need to switch out to a light w exhaust fan and need to tie it in to the venting in the attic, from the other bathroom.
Great idea Tom. I'm scared to death of drilling into walls. Could you show us how to do that safely, please? Mx
AND on the flip slide when you drill into the wall in the wrong place, how to fix the mess hole!
Yes....especially drilling into concrete block or stucco.
Yes, after watching a few of your videos I often think how great it would be if I knew someone handy or if I could do a few of those things. Some thoughts I have...
1) replace an electrical plug
2) fix a loose outlet plate (plug no longer is set securely)
3) how to replace a bathroom fan
4) how to replace a shower head, faucet, bathtub faucet, air filter, etc
5) how to tile or wall paper
6) how to put air in tires - what to look for, how do you know when done
7) how to replace windsheild wipers
6) .....anything that a young adult, or elderly single person can do on their own
Love this idea! Here are my ideas:
1) replacing a kitchen faucet cartridge instead of replacing the whole thing
2) replacing a faucet
3) replacing a car battery
4) replacing an exterior door
5) sharpening a lawn mower blade
6) winterizing an RV
7) installing under cabinet lights
8) unclogging a drain
9) installing weather stripping
10) changing a lock set
Good luck reaching 50k!
Thank you for asking us!!! Tom, my list is plenty long! The more I thought, the more I wrote! ... How to rewire a lamp. How to repair an extension cord. How to determine how heavy of cord you need for an appliance. How to install a plug on an electric range/clothes dryer. How to replace a door and window, you've done them but not step by step. How to level an appliance. How to install or replace a cooktop. How to install "can lights" (but now I know there are easier to install alternatives). How to put a roof on a deck. How to fix a toilet. How to install a dimmer switch. How to build steps to a shed. how to make a brick/gravel walkway/sidewalk. How to make a drip system for garden. How to build raised beds and/or feed troughs into garden beds. As you can see, I really enjoy your channel and I really do want you to continue to grow. Maybe call your series something like: "What every young man/woman needs to know!" Can you imagine the money people can save by learning to do common tasks?! Again thank you!
Mitering corners are the hardest thing for us to achieve.
Yes Please!! I need to make a new vent cover!!
Yes!!
Q. How do you winterize/prepare things for winter in MN? What things can be forgotten? What’s a top priority? What’s imperative to have on hand before the cold season starts?
I need to build a fence around a garden like yours with a gate. I also need to build raised flower beds. So basically, we’ve got nothing done. I did buy dirt and a metal raised bed, but I could make bigger wooden ones 😍. Thanks for all the ideals! You are an inspiration!
Looking forward to the dailies!
1. How to clean out and repair caulking around bathroom sink.
2. How to safely remove giant glued on mirrors from walls, without killing yourself in the process.
3. How ro sharpen mower blades.
Anything you want to teach us is great! Best of luck on hitting your goal! You've got this!
How exciting. I can’t wait to see what you come up with. Congratulations on the 40,000 I’m sure you will get to 50,000 soon.
I will be watching every day to learn new skills. This is fantastic. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! My request is probably too simple but I am afraid to use a drill because I don't know how to choose which bits to use to do things like hang a mirror or shelves. When to use wall anchors or just regular picture hangers? You will be giving us a much larger present than you will ever realize. Happy 40th birthday!! Many blessings in the coming year.
Good question on the drill bits.
Great idea!
Basic car stuff
Jumping a car
Changing a tire
Changing the oil
Changing the brake pads
House stuff
Hanging a shelf
Hanging a picture
Hanging a curtain rod
Painting basics
Using a drill
Also how to rplace filters.
Change light fixture.
Change a doorbell.
Hang a security camera. Wired or not.
Hang a flagpole bracket into vinyl siding.
Great idea, Tom! What are the routine maintenance tasks for homeowners and could you show us how to do them? If too many for short video.... maybe divide into a series??? :-)
Great idea! I'm thinking of the to do list in our house...
How to put up scaffold board shelves into stud wall?
Tiling subway backslash in kitchen.
Adjusting Billy bookcase (ikea) doors so they're level.
Caulking stair trim.
Best way to hang multiple picture frames (row of 3 for example).
Prepping glossed wood for repainting.
Changing internal door handles.
Fixing punctured bike tyre.
Top ten items to have in your tool bag for the car/ for living on your own for the first time/ top 5 power tools for DIY.
Car DIY basics- changing a tyre, oil checks, assessing tyre health (pressure/ tread depth etc).
Good luck with 50k subs
Basic electrical: putting in new light fixtures etc.
My husband and I are so excited for these next 3 weeks!!!! Question: How can we fix our shed door that is too warped to close? Help!
You are correct...that is a brilliant idea! Looking forward to watching daily. Hope you hit your 50k target soon.
Replacing a hinge on a wood gate
Wonderful surprise - bonus!! Congrats on 40K subscribers🎉
Great idea. This is going to be very beneficial to lots of people. Hanging a framed picture on the wall. Unclogging a drain. Building an easy wood shelf. Changing a tire on a car or truck. An easy way to fix a wobbly table. How to put a screw in the wall with one of those plastic screw things that expands in the wall when there isn’t a stud available. Those would be very helpful.
I know this might seem like a simple thing to you being an almost 70 year old woman. I’ve been trying to figure out how to replace my doorhandles on my inside doors so that they all match and it’s 100 year old house so to try and find them that would look OK, just not even really knowing where to start. I may need Dawn ‘s expertise in what to use and yours and how to install them.
I always wondered, what happens, if your heated floors stop working? Can they be fixed w/o digging up the concrete?
I’ve wondered about that, too.
What a great idea!! Congrats on 40K! My list is long: 1 thing I really like to know is how to sharpen my kitchen knives-
How to clean The water Water spots Off of my shower doors--Change weather stripping around front door---Shower & Tub Faucet Replacement... I have been watching you for years and always look forward to Fridays This is gonna be great I can't Wait!!! Thank you
Yes to changing weather stripping around the front door.
Can you please show how to replace the the plug outlet and light switches with new ones. Thank you.
Ps... I love your channel, you are a great teacher with an easy going & fun attitude 😊
Get the toilet tank to fill with more water than just 1/2 way (clogs easily being only 1/2 full) and how to get it to stop hissing and running! Thanks Tom! Go 50,000!!! 🎉
I have to keep holding the handle down on my toilet. What's wrong?
Just a minute, let me run around and note all the things that need to be fixed around here, lol.
How to add an extender to an outlet box to bring it flush with wainscoting.
How to install a dimmer switch.
How to install a new threshold for uneven floors.
How to patch damaged drywall in a bathroom, next to the shower .
Fantastic idea! You’ll get 50k in no time!
LOVE the shed!!! That is a dream and I’d love to see the whole process of getting that finished.
Other requests:
-install of windows to be sure they don’t leak.
-draining water heater to remove junk and debris
-leveling/repairing old concrete
-replacing step threshold for exterior door
Looking forward to this series!
Thanks for ALL you do!
Congratulations on reaching 40K!! I am looking forward to watching your videos! It's so hard to find anyone to do work around my house for me. I need to put a dead bolt on my front door, it only has a single door knob. Yes, not very safe! Metal door, just need to know how to drill the whole for the dead bolt, and then setting the plate on the door jam. Thank you, Tom! God bless you all!
A few ideas - 1) replace weatherstripping on the bottom of a front door 2) replace weatherstripping on the bottom of the garage door 3) Landscaping - we have what I consider is an area between our garage and the front walk that would be a good place for a flower bed. We live in the Cascade foothills (pacific northwest) and have been advised to not put mulch or such close to the house due to the wildfire danger. I'd love to get advice on how to get rid of the weeds, then how to put down a weed barrier and how to choose rock to go over the area -- I then plan to do big flower pots with flowers in them. 4) Measuring for window blinds and hanging blinds (or should we hire this? LOL). 5) Patching holes in walls. Thanks in advance for the videos! I'm excited to watch them. Have fun!
Bathroom maintenance. How to protect faucets, shower doors, and tile from hard water. How to protect tile grout from becoming porous and getting mildew.
This is a great idea! Replacing a window. Changing a faucet. Hanging a new light fixture with the power off 😉 finishing a project for your wife😅
Love you guys! Praying you get to 50K and beyond.
Great idea to do tutorials! You are awesome, Tom!
Oh Tom I can’t wait to see the progress going of the shed. Keep the candles burning.
I think it’s a great idea that you can show us how to doings.
How to clean shower grout
I know you said it was boring, but I'd love more instructions on installing, fixing and moving pex water lines. Whoever installed ours did a horrible job and there is just a mess of lines in our basement and under our sinks. Also, I'd love to see a video of installing a garbage disposal where there wasn't one.
Really, I will watch pretty much anything you post, but include what you keep saying is the boring stuff 😂. It's not boring to all of us, and you have a way of simplifying things to an understandable level.
Love your idea, Tom! I’ll be tuning in and watching your goal to reach 50,000 and beyond!! Looking forward to it!!!
Hanging curtains over a wide window. Changing a thermostat to a programmable one. Installing tip proof brackets on furniture. Changing a bathroom fan. Recaulking around sinks/tubs. Sealing grout on floor tiles. Anything on home maintenance that people might not think of. I feel like we get a house and nobody tells us little things we can do to keep it in top shape BEFORE there is a problem. Converting stairs from carpet to literally any other flooring option. I could go on and on. I can't wait to watch this series!
How to prioritize and finish projects, how to hire help, how not to take on too much work at one time 😂❤
😂
😂
😂
Replace light fixture, replace fan, replace bathroom faucet, how to paint trim, patch cement walk, tile bathroom floor
Tom, we love the premise of these “How To” videos --a “go-to guy” for projects (especially on how to budget for them, manage timelines, etc.) 😊
Car or Truck oil change/ Replacing a screen on a window or patio door/ Building a frame for a bench seat with storage/ Strapping down a load on a trailer.
This is a great idea! I turn 40 less than three weeks after you. So excited you're getting your shop finished soon, I remember when you guys moved it. Switching out ceiling fans has always intimidated me, so that would be helpful. Also painting kitchen cabinets.
Outdoor Faucet or spigot on side of our house needs to be replaced totally and recaulked or insulted too.
None of my outlets are grounded and I would love to know what i would need and how to change them out
Good question!
How about what tools you need for day to day maintenance on houses and the same for a toolbox for working on vehicles? Easy to get carried away with gadgets but you have the experience to know what you really need for both types of jobs. Helpful info for people starting out.
WOW, that shop is going to be Amazing!
Congrats on 40.3K!!! Look forward to the how to videos, I’m sure they’ll be helpful to many as they search for answers in years to come. No pressure! 😜😆
Oh also- thank you for your present to us of daily watching u til your 40th. May God continue to bless the whole family!
Replacing wipers on a car, also basic car maintenance, oil , water fluid etc. If something happens to my husband I'll be stuck. Yes he's happy to show me but I need a video I can replay while I get it. Thank you.
Love this idea . . .replace harbage disposal, drywall repair, hang ceiling fan, replace dishwasher . . .
I'm so excited for you that the shop is coming together.
I replaced my dishwasher last summer, thank God for RUclips, it was harder than I thought!😂
Putting up a ceiling fan with a light and fixing a small hole in Sheetrock and basically anything you can think to show. Looking forward to your videos.
👍 great idea. Although I would watch you and Dawn, fixing anything, even waiting for pain to dry 😂 oh, I think we already did that 😂
Agree, include Dawn. The two of you are a great team.
Ideas: replacing washers to fix dripping tap. Fix toilet to srop water running into bowl constantly. Basic car maintenance (oil, water, plugs).
Hey Tom, I've been watching you & D for years. I remember when Tom didn't like people lol 😂 and now you're sooo likable❤. That shed is RIDICULOUSLY HUGE and can't wait to see the end result. I'm an extreme introvert so even writing these comments is A LOT for me. I don't have ANY social media I just watch a few people on RUclips but as private and antisocial as I am I would love to meet you and Dawn some day. Only thing is I'm alll the way in New York City. Happy early birthday Tom🎉
What is the proper way to skim coat a wall that has a rough texture? How to get a smooth paint texture on doors and windowsills. How to use a paint sprayer. What is the simplest one for a novice? Best type of paint to use for front doors, bathrooms, windowsills, baseboards?
Yeah! Daily videos and I know I’ll learn a lot!! ❤️
An extra middle hinge on a door - mine are solid wood and have a top and bottom hinge but need a middle hinge put on too for the weight :) thanks!!! 😊
3 years? Wow, doesn't seem like it's been that long! I love watching the process of all of your adventures!
Yes! It does seem like a few !months ago that they moved the shop! I want to learn all the things you have left to do in your office, classroom building. Unless it is finished already.
I was glad 2 Har he had so many items already, prices going up the way they are.
I thought the same thing!! 3 years already!?!

Can’t wait to see what you post in the coming weeks. I would love to see the process of removing an existing window and replacing with a new one (either the same size or even a larger replacement). Thank you for your consideration!! Congrats on the 40K…on to 50 and beyond!!! 🎉
I have been with you for many years!! I would love to see everything you do to finish this building and how you do it. You and Dawn are amazing!!! 😊
Hi Tom. I think this is a wonderful idea. It should bring in lots of new subscribers. I have a very old house, and I could probably keep you busy for over 2 1/2 weeks by myself. Currently, my biggest problem is my screen doors no longer fit, they don't close properly. Last year my son-in-law replaced one, he reframed it and put in a new metal door. but within 2 weeks it already didn't close tightly, and it gets a little worse all the time. it's gapping at the top and bottom. He tried adjusting the hinges, which didn't help. Any ideas? My next project is painting my kitchen cabinets. I don't know where to begin. The doors are wood, and the drawer fronts are plastic. Thanks for all the help you've already provided on your channel.
Fantastic! Some ideas: Fix a stuck bathtub shower diverter, fix a bathroom fan that sounds "off", how to maintain a lawn mower
Exciting times ahead with the shop shed!!
British senior here in a very mundane suburban house - however I feel that I'm a real expert on laying floor heating pipes, installing a concrete slab and building a Quonset hut. I learned all of this vicariously from watching the really informative vlogs of Simple Living Alaska and I'm really looking forward to see your completed project too.
I love this idea! I need so much done to my place. I'm a busy nurse who can't find a contractor to help me, so I've been trying to do what I can myself on weekends. Feel free to come to Southern California any time you'd like to use my condo for demonstration videos.
Adjusting a door! Unsticking a lock. Making a rabbit pen. Digging a French drain. Organising tools best-practice. Making a drywall wall. Installing a window. Making a fence. Cleaning a car air filter. Patching a wall. Setting up a man-cave/shop. Cleaning air conditioning unit.... 💖💖 you will get to 50k in no time! Anything you post I will probs watch, fwiw, I loved tagging along when the trees got trimmed!
Fixing a tap, especially fixing a tap!
