If you start from the position of knowing much about everything, then science is worthless to you, apart from a stroke of the ego. it's called math ... if you go from 1 to 60, it's 6000% increase. Small numbers when by not that many compared to the whole subset (in this case, millions). One could use your same argument for why "suddenly" we had so many more "left handed people" back in the day. But it was simply a fact of people not being punished for being left handed, so they identified as left handed more easily. I used to watch Professor Dave’s channel now and then - he had some interesting science videos. When I watched this video, it was clear it to me it was full of inconsistencies, and opinions disguised as “science”. I engaged directly with him, to ask him to provide clear, OBJECTIVE, scientific evidence that gender is a neurological, and therefore, biological construct. It was an intriguing concept, that gender is biological. Gender is usually positioned by these activists as a social construct, as per radical feminist thinkers, postmodernists, and social constructivists - with Marxism, a totalitarian ideology, lurking behind it. He was NOT able to provide any evidence. At a certain point, he replied something like “trans exist, therefore it is self-evident that this is a biological phenomenon”. Self-evident! Hardly a scientific argument for someone who claims to be a scientist. I could say “plumbers exist, therefore it is a biological phenomenon”… As I continued to press him to clarify his claims, he got angry and blocked me from the channel (after the usual insults: bigot, etc.). And he did not define what a woman is.

Apparently Albert Einstein did himself not understand quantum mechanics. "Gott würfelt nicht!" was his rebuttal of the statistical nature of quantum states. I’ve been a fan of Professor Dave for a long time. He’s been getting progressively worse with his political ideologies slipping into his otherwise science content. He’s had to shut the comments off on more than one video due to getting slammed both in the video & the comments. He doesn’t take being proven wrong very well.
My experience with academics has always been that. They, for the most part, cannot take criticism well. It is a belief in their own superiority. I hd maybe three professors who were worth a damn. An older gentleman that taught Latin & Classics and avoided other topics as outside his wheelhouse. A Russian that taught poli sci who was hilarious and self deprecating. And a History professor that taught a “History of the Vietnam War” class and was thrilled to have two vets in his class. He loved to defer to them when ever he could as subject matter experts, really humble guy. The rest suffered from cranial-rectum syndrome.

Heres a little history for you: The Institut für Sexualwissenschaft was a german nonprofit institut to reseach gender identity, sexuality and other related topics. It was foundet in 1919 and stood in berlin. It was the first of its kind. 1933 the Nazis burned it down. Trans and gay people where put in conzentration camps becouse they thought that Trans people where unnatural, sick individualy, child predators and other fearmongering adjectives. Most of them died next to other camp inmates like retards, POWs, political prisoners and jews. If you realy think that "transness and woke leftism" is a ideology but can see that you are part of another then at least choose one that has different views then the Nazis. Cheers.
As a former subscriber to this guy, I can tell you he's a consummate well poisoner. His opening was more blatant than I remember him being, but otherwise completely unsurprising. At least he admitted to having a bias, which is some real progress for him.

As a professional translator and someone who engages in the world largely from a linguistic perspective, it warms the heart that Matt introduces the origins of "gender". Working in this world, I am quite literally on the front lines of the attack on language and I often wonder if people recognize the danger of failing to protect language.
Sadly they'll use the defense that languages have always evolved and that definitions change. They'll also refuse to admit that those things have never happened in such a quick and propagandistic (edit: typo) way.
They can argue that, but at this point it’s devolution. People without coherent thought or mastery of language cobble together slogans that are easy to remember but shrivel when exposed to the light of reason.

What we are seeing today is not cultural evolution, it is the usurping of language towards a manufactured agenda. People may not realize it, but this linguistic coup is impacting their lives in ways they can't imagine. It actually has a direct and tangible impact on things like inflation and cost of living as corporations spend more money on trying to adapt to or account for these dramatic and random shifts in Western ideology. As someone who often follows Prof. Dave, I figured he'd address this topic at some point, though I was expecting him to debunk transgenderism in the same way he demolished flat earth theory. You can imagine my surprise when I saw him defend such obvious pseudoscience for political gain.
I watched the video and from what I've gathered, he isn't agreeing with the transgender movement ; The one you constantly see on Twitter, but confirming that gender dysphoria is real. No one ever said that men cannot have psychological qualities of women, and obviously these qualities would be neurological in nature. Either way, the fundemental reality of what they are is still male. Also, what is a feminine trait? How does one determine that? To even attribute a trans gender neurological trait, one has to agree to the fact that gender IS a binary. To even say that a certain trait is feminine you have to say that there is a binary in which two archetypes exhibit certain traits. Then if one type has traits archetypally associated with the other type, you'd say they're a type 1 with traits of type 2. So right off the bat that already proves the binary. This binary is necessarily based, defined by, and observed by viewing the traits associated with the archetypes of each sex. The most feminine female has a certain set of traits, and this is a binary defined by traits of and based on sex. So, to summarize: people all exist within a spectrum of expression of gendered traits. There is no man or woman who has absolutely zero traits from the opposite sex. These traits are dependent on the biology of the person (more than just genetics, the epigenetics, environment, stimuli, and will of the person affect the development of these traits). The traits will align with one of two ends of the gender binary as defined by the expression of the archetypes of each sex, with some overlap in between (certain traits aren't dependent on gender). This is exactly what normal people have understood forever and what we've been saying all along. It's exactly what Dave said except he tried to say that somehow supports the idea of transgenderism. It doesn't because you can be a man with feminine traits... you're just a feminine man, you're not actually a woman. Furthermore, because it's dependent on biology, on the objective nature of one's person, you cannot just identify with a certain gender. You can't just say you feel like a woman or identify as one and then be one. You either are or aren't a woman. Then you might say, what if a man had only feminine traits? Would he be a woman? Well, it's impossible for a man to have only feminine traits. Because what we're talking about here is biology, a man automatically has male traits by virtue of having a male body and a Y chromosome. He would be the most feminine man, one could attribute gendered QUALITY *TO* his behaviors and feelings, but that still wouldn't change the fundemental nature of him being a male, a feminine male.

You knew him before this video? I had never heard of him, and after watching today's MW Show, I visited his original video and wrote a 3-paragraph argument against his video. I got no replies. His main claim, the gist of his argument, is that men/women should be decided by neurochemical activities. He implied that no scientists yet know what those distinctions are (i.e., by which such activities he can say a person is a man or a woman) because scientists are still working on it. That alone makes it impossible to say whether his argument is valid or not, which makes his argument useless. But let's just assume that his argument is correct. How is his criterion objectively a better one than our XX/XY chromosome criterion? At best, both are arbitrary and they chose the former and we chose the latter. We don't accept their criterion to determine men/women, and they don't accept our criterion to determine men/women. If that makes us 'bigots', by the same logic, they are bigots too. I have no idea how he confidently say that we are the evil and wrong side. Even in numbers, globally, we outnumber them.

He's been searching since about 1989, starting with a failed attempt to find correlation in the INAH 1. In 1995, he and a team did find a correlation in the volume of the central subdivision of the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BSTc) using a small sample size of 6 MtF cadavers, all 6 of which identified as "nonhomosexual" (autogynephilic), all 6 had been treated with hormones, and 5/6 were castrated. So there were no controls for any of these variables and later research (Hulshoff Pol et al. 2006) concluded that hormones are what affect BSTc size, regardless of TS identity. This is probably why, in 2007, Swaab then began instead looking for correlations in the INAH-3, which his previous paper has already concluded "did not meet these criteria". This time he and a team studied 10 MtF cadavers, again all of which had been taking hormones and 8/10 were castrated. But at least they theoretically controlled for hormones this time by having a control group of castrated (cis) males. But here's where it gets ridiculous: In order to study a microscopic nucleus like the INAH-3, you have to slice it, stain it, and then manually estimate the edges. 4 of the 10 test subjects could not be measured due to a staining error. Instead of removing them from the data, the team calculated their INAH-3 volume to be 0. You can see this in the paper. They include 4 zeros in the MtF group and then conclude that their mean volume was significantly lower than the control (castrated) group, despite the fact that without those 4 zeros, the means were practically identical. I don't have anything against Swaab. He has some serious sampling errors, and he admits to HARKing (gathering data and then trying to formulate a hypothesis from the data. On the surface, it seems valid, but it's a deceptively simple fallacy which has been compared to shooting a shotgun at a wall, then drawing bullseyes on the holes and calling yourself a sharpshooter) The errors are probably why it's never been replicated, but I still think it's valuable work. The real problem is people cherry picking his research like it's concrete proof of the things they want to believe when the science is still very much undecided on what causes gender identity. Evidence currently points away from BSTc and INAH-3.

As someone who watches Prof Dave Explains I can say with 100% certainty he's treating people who know that biological sex exists the same as flat earthers. Dave Farina (a.k.a Professor Dave) has a Bachelors degree in chemistry but he portrays himself as an expert across several complex scientific disciplines: from physics and astronomy to biochemistry and medicine. He clearly doesn't like others opposing his viewpoints in his channel, and when someone does so, he responds in the most ungracious manner befitting more a school bully rather than a professor. I once tried to have a conversation with him in the comments based on his debunking of a video related to Star formation models in Astronomy, another complex topic in which he tries to act as an expert and has a faint idea about what he is talking, and time and again he can come up with no plausible counterarguments except cheap expletives proving what he and is avid followers are worth.
I've previously watched "Professor Dave" talk about other subjects, and have found him reasonable, logical and interesting. But when it comes to gender ideology many otherwise intelligent people seem to have caught some sort of viral mental contagion. The amount of nonsense he was spouting was incredible. He had not a single effective counter argument, just a lot of baseless, illogical assertions.
It's the same with athiests and humanists. I'm athiest, and really dumbfounded at how stupid they can be when it comes to "racism" and "discrimination" and "trans rights". They've adopted the far-left viewpoints of these things as their religion, essentially I relate more to religious people now who can argue viewpoints logically, as long as they leave their religious beliefs out of the argument.
It's like when Legal Eagle talks about various random, interesting law stuff, corner cases, FAQs, etc., that's great, but then occasionally his TDS or left leaning shines through subtly. (or at least, he knows that he has to appeal to a left leaning viewership). It's a huge turnoff when, given a touchy subject, like the summer of love, the election, lockdowns, or insurrection, the "legal" RUclipsr leans in favor of the auth-left *every* time, and in favor of Liberty and the constitution surprisingly *never.*

One could use your same argument for why "suddenly" we had so many more "left handed people" back in the day. When I watched this video, it was clear it to me it was full of inconsistencies, and opinions disguised as “science”. I engaged directly with him, to ask him to provide clear, OBJECTIVE, scientific evidence that gender is a neurological, and therefore, biological construct. It was an intriguing concept, that gender is biological. Gender is usually positioned by these activists as a social construct, as per radical feminist thinkers, postmodernists, and social constructivists - with Marxism, a totalitarian ideology, lurking behind it. He was NOT able to provide any evidence. At a certain point, he replied something like “trans exist, therefore it is self-evident that this is a biological phenomenon”. Self-evident! Hardly a scientific argument for someone who claims to be a scientist. I could say “plumbers exist, therefore it is a biological phenomenon”… As I continued to press him to clarify his claims, he got angry and blocked me from the channel (after the usual insults: bigot, etc.). And he did not define what a woman is.

I’ve been a fan of Professor Dave for a long time. He’s been getting progressively worse with his political ideologies slipping into his otherwise science content. He’s had to shut the comments off on more than one video due to getting slammed both in the video & the comments. He doesn’t take being proven wrong very well.
Which is unfortunate, since when talking pure science he's a pretty solid communicator.
My experience with academics has always been that. They, for the most part, cannot take criticism well. It is a belief in their own superiority. I hd maybe three professors who were worth a damn. An older gentleman that taught Latin & Classics and avoided other topics as outside his wheelhouse. A Russian that taught poli sci who was hilarious and self deprecating. And a History professor that taught a “History of the Vietnam War” class and was thrilled to have two vets in his class. He loved to defer to them when ever he could as subject matter experts, really humble guy.

If gender is not a social construct, and it's a biological one, then that means it's the same as sex. That's literally what we're saying, that sex and gender are synonymous and just mean your biological nature. Saying that gender expression is neurochemcial and psychological is obvious and is exactly what we're saying... just like personality is neurochemical and psychological. No one ever said that men cannot have psychological qualities of women, and obviously these qualities would be neurological in nature. Either way, the fundemental reality of what they are is still male.
Also, what is a feminine trait? How does one determine that? To even attribute a trans gender neurological trait, one has to agree to the fact that gender IS a binary. To even say that a certain trait is feminine you have to say that there is a binary in which two archetypes exhibit certain traits. Then if one type has traits archetypally associated with the other type, you'd say they're a type 1 with traits of type 2. So right off the bat that already proves the binary. This binary is necessarily based, defined by, and observed by viewing the traits associated with the archetypes of each sex. The most feminine female has a certain set of traits, and this is a binary defined by traits of and based on sex.
So, to summarize: people all exist within a spectrum of expression of gendered traits. There is no man or woman who has absolutely zero traits from the opposite sex. These traits are dependent on the biology of the person (more than just genetics, the epigenetics, environment, stimuli, and will of the person affect the development of these traits). The traits will align with one of two ends of the gender binary as defined by the expression of the archetypes of each sex, with some overlap in between (certain traits aren't dependent on gender). This is exactly what normal people have understood forever and what we've been saying all along. It's exactly what Dave said except he tried to say that somehow supports the idea of transgenderism. It doesn't because you can be a man with feminine traits... you're just a feminine man, you're not actually a woman.
Furthermore, because it's dependent on biology, on the objective nature of one's person, you cannot just identify with a certain gender. You can't just say you feel like a woman or identify as one and then be one. You either are or aren't a woman.
Then you might say, what if a man had only feminine traits? Would he be a woman? Well, it's impossible for a man to have only feminine traits. Because what we're talking about here is biology, a man automatically has male traits by virtue of having a male body and a Y chromosome. He would be the most feminine man, one could attribute gendered QUALITY *TO* his behaviors and feelings, but that still wouldn't change the fundemental nature of him being a male, a feminine male.

You knew him before this video? I had never heard of him, and after watching today's MW Show, I visited his original video and wrote a 3-paragraph argument against his video. I got no replies. His main claim, the gist of his argument, is that men/women should be decided by neurochemical activities. He implied that no scientists yet know what those distinctions are (i.e., by which such activities he can say a person is a man or a woman) because scientists are still working on it. That alone makes it impossible to say whether his argument is valid or not, which makes his argument useless. But let's just assume that his argument is correct. How is his criterion objectively a better one than our XX/XY chromosome criterion? At best, both are arbitrary and they chose the former and we chose the latter. We don't accept their criterion to determine men/women, and they don't accept our criterion to determine men/women. If that makes us 'bigots', by the same logic, they are bigots too. I have no idea how he confidently say that we are the evil and wrong side. Even in numbers, globally, we outnumber them.

@@Ab_Def_ Not sure if you plan to revisit this, but here are the bullet points if anyone's curious: essentially all research into the "brain sex" theory can be traced back to one Dutch researcher named Dick Swaab. He's been searching since about 1989, starting with a failed attempt to find correlation in the INAH 1. In 1995, he and a team did find a correlation in the volume of the central subdivision of the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BSTc) using a small sample size of 6 MtF cadavers, all 6 of which identified as "nonhomosexual" (autogynephilic), all 6 had been treated with hormones, and 5/6 were castrated. So there were no controls for any of these variables and later research (Hulshoff Pol et al. 2006) concluded that hormones are what affect BSTc size, regardless of TS identity.
This is probably why, in 2007, Swaab then began instead looking for correlations in the INAH-3, which his previous paper has already concluded "did not meet these criteria". This time he and a team studied 10 MtF cadavers, again all of which had been taking hormones and 8/10 were castrated. But at least they theoretically controlled for hormones this time by having a control group of castrated (cis) males. But here's where it gets ridiculous: In order to study a microscopic nucleus like the INAH-3, you have to slice it, stain it, and then manually estimate the edges. 4 of the 10 test subjects could not be measured due to a staining error. Instead of removing them from the data, the team calculated their INAH-3 volume to be 0. You can see this in the paper. They include 4 zeros in the MtF group and then conclude that their mean volume was significantly lower than the control (castrated) group, despite the fact that without those 4 zeros, the means were practically identical.
I don't have anything against Swaab. He has some serious sampling errors, and he admits to HARKing (gathering data and then trying to formulate a hypothesis from the data. On the surface, it seems valid, but it's a deceptively simple fallacy which has been compared to shooting a shotgun at a wall, then drawing bullseyes on the holes and calling yourself a sharpshooter) The errors are probably why it's never been replicated, but I still think it's valuable work. The real problem is people cherry picking his research like it's concrete proof of the things they want to believe when the science is still very much undecided on what causes gender identity. Evidence currently points away from BSTc and INAH-3.

Dave Farina (a.k.a Professor Dave) has a Bachelors degree in chemistry but he portrays himself as an expert across several complex scientific disciplines: from physics and astronomy to biochemistry and medicine. He clearly doesn't like others opposing his viewpoints in his channel, and when someone does so, he responds in the most ungracious manner befitting more a school bully rather than a professor.
I once tried to have a conversation with him in the comments based on his debunking of a video related to Star formation models in Astronomy, another complex topic in which he tries to act as an expert and has a faint idea about what he is talking, and time and again he can come up with no plausible counterarguments except cheap expletives proving what he and is avid followers are worth.

I've previously watched "Professor Dave" talk about other subjects, and have found him reasonable, logical and interesting. But when it comes to gender ideology many otherwise intelligent people seem to have caught some sort of viral mental contagion. The amount of nonsense he was spouting was incredible. He had not a single effective counter argument, just a lot of baseless, illogical assertions.
Same, everytime I watch a political take of a science channel it's always full of poor arguments, accusations and logical fallacies for some reason.
It's the same with athiests and humanists. I'm athiest, and really dumbfounded at how stupid they can be when it comes to "racism" and "discrimination" and "trans rights". They've adopted the far-left viewpoints of these things as their religion, essentially
I relate more to religious people now who can argue viewpoints logically, as long as they leave their religious beliefs out of the argument.
It's like when Legal Eagle talks about various random, interesting law stuff, corner cases, FAQs, etc., that's great, but then occasionally his TDS or left leaning shines through subtly. (or at least, he knows that he has to appeal to a left leaning viewership).

I only discovered Matt Walsh because of the hype around What is a Woman (which I’ve yet to see) but damn I am extremely impressed at his articulation and delivery. 10/10 would never want to get into a debate with this man.

The anorexic example is kind of perfect, and it's one that my father, a medical doctor, has pointed out to me when we were discussing what was up with gender ideology. He said something along these lines.

But any doctor that does the 'nice' thing should be charged with malpractice.

Just because one condition which is anorexia has more obvious results doesn't mean you can't compare them. Both conditions stem from the same thing, chemical processes in the brain.
