"How is this masters" comments are so exaggerated. Like did they even watch the video? The brig is not bad. She was doing okay. It's just that she didn't get the most out of her.
I just started learning her, and I spent my first hour or so playing her against Hard AI Bots. That way I could get a feel for her without a lot on the line!
i used to play brig but didn’t know what to do as her. i feel like the best way to play a character is to watch a lot of guides about them and try to apply them as much as possible to your gameplay during the first games. after a bit the stuff said in the guides will be subconsciously ingrained in your brain and you’ll do what the guides say without realizing it.
Brig is definitely very hard to play! not only is most of her skill required invested in strategy and micro decision making, skills that the vast majority of players, even up to the highest ranks, generally lack, but she's also very squishy but prefers risky positions. but here's some advice I dont think Jay really talks about here, or hardly anyoke tbh. Brig is an off tank as much as she is a support. if you remember what role off tanks held in ow1, think of Brig like that but with healing. Brig is great at protecting teammates individually so your main tank can focus on holding the frontline and taking space, or Brig is also good at bolstering your frontline by helping your main tank hold the frontline or take space. you are support reinhardt, in almost every single sense of the word. you are a shieldmaiden. Brig is at her best when she is at a teammates side, bolstering their efforts. if ever you play Brig and feel like you arent achieving anything, chances are good you arent playing with a teammate, or your teammates are abandoning you when you do. always play around your teammates, always be looking for enemies to take space away from you dont have to be next to a teammate either. I had a great match where my tank, wrecking ball, had the job of harassing their backline, while I held off the Reinhardt. because I kept the Reinhardt distracted, my Hammond had free reign to make the rest of their team incapable of making progress. and that was us nearly 2v5'ing, when are teammates were done pushing the objective up to us, they took advantage of the chaos and wrecked house. this match started with our team getting steam rolled by the way all the way back to spawn, so it wasnt like the enemy team was just that much worse, we just shifted our strategy and dominated there after. tldr; Brig is support Reinhardt. play aroujd your teammates and bolster their efforts, and you'll be doing better than most Brig's
I needed this. I main Zen but my favorite character to play is Brig but I don’t always know what to do with her and similar to this guy I feel like I’m doing nothing if I’m not in the frontlines.
Honestly what I found a bit jarring in this gameplay is the amount of time he just holds on to whip shot against a comp that doesn't need whip shot readily available. It also doesn't help that 2/3 of his whip shots are aimed at nothing or a hero that can easily avoid it. Whip shot is the most common way to proc inspire on brig and its up time is criminally low because of this. His whip shot accuracy is also quite bad, he should look for easy targets to proc inspire against, generally agressive or predictable enemy heroes. He ends up wasting a lot of armor packs because without inspire, his team is lacking a lot of healing. His play style makes way more sense against a Winston dive where you need the boop to prevent the Winston to jump on highground and killing your backline, but against a rein comp that can't really dive you, whip shot should almost always be used as soon as a good inspire opportunity shows up, to make you team more sturdy, increase their uptime and charge your ult quicker. Even then, against a dive comp he should play closer to his Ana.
Okay, so I’m a Brig player and I am working on not being so aggressive. I have been working on protecting my other support but not every support is easy to protect as Brig. Like if a Kirko who tps a lot or a Mercy who is in the air major of the time. Any suggestions?
If your other support does something stupid, and you can't save them. That isn't your fault. The big takeaway is that if someone does something stupid, don't die trying to save them. I do that too often.
Either pick a DPS to protect (pretend your widow is now a tank/ect). Or look at your support line and pick a different support. Brig+ana is a classic combo, and the main reason is that ana can solo heal the team if kept alive /not bothered. Mercy is mainly there to keep a DPS alive /not heal the tank, so brig+mercy is not a high healing comp.
It’s crazy that they say them being on the car made them feel useless lol that’s the whole point of the objective. I love using brig and her defense is really good forcing ppl to approach
Admittedly Rein is the hardest Tank to get Inspire against. He's very tough to find good moments to whip shot him and if you get too close he'll always swing on you and win that every time.
I don't have the best qualifications, but as a diamond brig otp, I also have struggled with this, especially reins who prioritize shielding over damage (or straight up shield botting) my recommendation is always be looking for his fire strikes, as it gives the perfect window of opportunity to whipshot him and keep inspire up. Besides that, just look for other enemies in the front line that you could whipshot instead to proc inspire off of. Hope this helps!!
its a good habit to have as brig bc keeping your flail swinging like that can lead to accidental dmg thatll proc inspire that you normally wouldnt have got
I think they LOVE playing Brig so much and the playstyle they have are 2 completely different things, they constantly do the "cool" stuff like spamming melee so much for no reason other to remind them they are playing Brig. But the way they play screams I want to heal from a distance, I think if they played a different support that playstyle will gel more. There's no shame one tricking I'm somewhat guilty of that but if I was their tank and I looked back at the replay and saw my Bring spamming her melee in the open and letting me get charged into a wall I would lose my mind. Why play Brig when you just stand there while the tank gets jumped??

Brig is a tank hybrid, which means you do tank things. you take space, and defend your teammates. this entire time, it looks like he's playing Mercy without damage boost. there were several moments where the tank was anti'd and nearly dead, where he could have jumped in and gave his Mauga breathing room, or protected his Ana. either or, those are Brig's favorite teammates, support number 2 and the tank. she lives and breathes off playing with those 2 teammates. you're playing support Reinhardt, you need to get in peoples face to get the best value, ie.pressuring enemies (and proccing inspire)
