Brasov. Romania's Best City? First time in Transylvania 🇷🇴

  • Welcome to Brasov, Romania. This week we’ve made our way north of Bucharest to the Transylvania area of Romania to one of the most beautiful cities in the country called Brașov.
We start things off in a park just outside the old city walls. Our intention was take the Tampa Cable Car to the very top overlooking the entire city, but it is unfortunately closed on Monday (at least in low season).
We then headed back into the old town directly to the main town square and also checked out the very nearby church - definitely the most recognizable in the city, the Black Church. We walked around outside but didn’t go in, mainly because it cost money and they don’t allow any type of photography or video inside. Afterwards we bought a chimney cake or Kürtőskalács at a kiosk in the square.
Not far from the main square you’ll find a very narrow street (thought to be one of the narrowest streets in Europe) called Strada Sforii or Rope Street. There’s lots of graffiti and people have signed their names on the walls.
After this, we found a synagogue (Beth Israel) while walking, and because we couldn’t go into the church we decided to give it a visit.
Lastly we made our way back to the walls (but on the other side of town from the beginning of the video, where we came upon a gate called Catherine’s Gate, outside the gate was a fantastic walking trail with a stream running alongside it. We eventually found some steps that led upwards and gave us a great view over the whole city.

When we stayed in Brasov we went up in the cable car to the very top and the views were amazing. We decided to walk down and we saw big black bears nearby which was a bit unnerving. This area is also a ski resort in the winter. From our hotel balcony these brown bears woukd cone right up to the hotel as guest would throw bread down to them.

@@DelightfulTravellers They are brown bears, there's no black bears in Romania. And yeah, here in Brasov it's pretty common to have bears in the middle of the town. It quite pisses me off, cause I also would like to hike around the forests surrounding the city, but because of the huge bear population, I'm quite hesitant. Romania has the largest bear population in Europe (except Russia, but most of Russia is in Asia anyways). And Romania is not even such a big country, plus not all of it it's forest area. In some mountain villages, bears even break into people's houses and steal their food lol 😂. Anyway, congratulations for the video, I'm happy you liked my town.

6,000-6,300 brown bears, only in Romania according to data from 2014. But unfortunately in Romania, more and more forests are being cut down, and even cut in secular forests that should be protected areas, so the bears do not he has enough food and goes down to the cities.
It is a beautiful country but it is stolen, systematically plundered by the Romanian political class for 30 years now. we are still led by fixed communists with the same Bolshevik mentality.

Our 1st wk in Romania was at the seaside resort of Mamia, which we found a little bit too touristic for us, but our 2Nd wk was in the beautiful Poina Brasov whiched we absolutely loved. The air was so fresh and clean, and my Asthma just went away, which was different too our first wk that nearly ruined our holiday.!! We noticed that the Russians were doing manouvers in the Carpathian mountains and they even got on our coach and put the blinds down so we couldn't use out cameras. Anyway, that was years ago when Chechesku was the Romanian leader, who was not popular at all. Excuse my spelling please. Locals would stop us and try to buy out good and leather from us, as they couldn't get luxuries etc.

the walk up to tampa is not steep at all guys, it's the easiest walk ever, the path starts after the cable car building. it's not the steep incline of the cable car path. it's a bit windy.

0:40 Okay Trevor, you said that sentence in a conditional way? For me, Zamość is the perfect city. At least it meets the concept of an ideal Renaissance city. It is a pity that this year is the beginning of bad times. I had such beautiful plans. After all, I wish you health and a safe return home.

Haha... So a beautiful ”little town”, you say. Well, its not actually a town at all, let aside the ”little”... Its a city and a municipium, meaning its the largest and the capital city of that shire/county of Brașov(out of 41 counties/shires), and the city of Brașov has a population of around 300K, so its not a town, but funny(in both ways), for some Canadians/Australians landed in that corner of Europe ;) LOL

This "Beautiful little town Brasov" has over 300.000 people in it and metropolitan area, and over 500.000 in Brasov county, in total. :) You have only visited the Old City Center, Brasov city has 16-20 km on its wider sides.

The unknown drives us, for sure. That's why you travel too, isn't it? Dracula is about stories and the human nature more than is about a dark country, or connections with what's beyond us. We wait for the food you've found there, if it has a different taste than the one before, if it's more specific.

I mean for god sake. This city is not even close to the architecture of Bucharest. Where the hell are buildings like Athenum Roman? The Museum of Enescu? Buildings like ones at Lascar Catargiu? Where are the houses like ones at Dacia Boulevard? Where are all the gorgeous orthodox churches? Not a single boulevard in Brasov is as impressive as Calea Victoriei. Just because this city does not have any socialist arichecture does not make any prettier than Bucharest. Even the city of Constanta has more beautiful buildings than Brasov. Jesus Chris, people need to get their priorities straight.

Bucharest is a dump. Even some of the buildings still have war damage from the bombs. Morter shell holes cover some buildings that have never been repaired. After passing through this dump we was all glad when we arrived in Brasov, like another world.
