Hello Good Evening Friends I'm from Philippines, Based on my opinion as a Student who played almost 9k matches and playing as multirole and solo player. Athena Shield- I usually build this item against those heroes who have burst magic damage. And another thing: I usually build this item because, I got mad to those who love to ambush. Example: Like Eudora who hides on the bushes and after she kill me, spamming recall fuck and I hate that thing. Weakness of Athena Shield: -High Magic Penetration Items that can make lower the magic defense and reduce it. By this way it will make magic power deal it's total big amount of magic damage. -Just throw the magic skill/basic attack at them, after triggering the passive of Athena Shield you have a five seconds to strike and have an opportunity to kill them but sometimes they can survive by having a 1-10% remaining hp. How to know that thing: try to use gusion as an experiment hero in custom mode/practice mode. Then throw your first skill of gusion at the enemy who have build anthena shield. If you see the violet ring that's the indicator that Anthenas Shield Passive has triggered. After the violet ring disappeared that's your 5 seconds opportunity time to deal a magic damage that may kill them because Athena Shields role is to resist to survive against the burst magic damage only like eudora, Eudora have only 1 combo to kill you, the combo it takes only few seconds to kill you and Athena resist it by its passive. Radiant Armor- For me this item can help you to survive from continues magic damage/ Sustained Damage Per Seconds. But also this item can't help you against heroes who have burst magic damage with sustained damage per seconds like pharsa, gusion and other like that. But also this item can only help you against low magic damage/sustained damage per seconds heroes like gloo and other heroes like that. Weakness of Radiant Armor: -Magic Penetration items: Arcane boots, Genius Wand, and Devine Glaive. -High Magic Power Items -If your using this item radiant armor, heroes like pharsa and gusion that having a sustained damage per seconds and also have a burst magic damage, you may survive or may be killed. If you using this item as marksman or mage or assassin you will take 75% or more damage, if you are fighter 50% or more and if you are support less than 50% and if your tank you will take 25% or more. Oracle- for me it helps me a lot as a support user and sustained heroes user. Weakness of oracle: -Anti heal/shield/regen items: like Necklace of Durance, Sea Halberd, and Dominance. -Anti Heal/Shield/Regen hero: Baxia. -Magic Penetration items: Arcane boots, Genius Wand, and Devine Glaive. Curse Hell met - for me it helps me to deal extra damage to enemy as a tank heroes. If you noticed my grammars are wrong, Sorry because I'm not good at english so much, that's why I'm saying this... Sorry again.

I wonder why u have such a low number of subscribers. I find that ur vids are really knowledgeable and suitable to math nerds like me since u do a lot of calculations. Surely I will recommend ur channel to my gaming frds.
Really nice explanation ,on defense growth per minute per 100 gold, very detail, i already aware of this theory, so good you can make the video of it, so everyone can aware of this theory :)
Usually, The item is based on your character weakness and enemy lineup, if theres a gusion jungle on the enemy and youre using grock, best bet is to buy 2 magic cloak and a hp crystal asap, since those items are T1, you can slowly work one to a radiant armor. those items alone would provide you bit more time and sustainability to survive gusion full combo
Dont look at every enemy youre going to deal with at the Early game, build defense based of what is a threat to you before dealing with the other threat
In a way, yes, there should be a holistic approach in the itemization against a certain line-up. The amount of computations on what's optimal is kinda crazy to calc, but in general, an optimal approach would be to build efficiently against enemies you'd regularly encounter that are strong in the early game first in order to improve survivability against them. Building against an enemy you're less likely to encounter, is IMO, at the very least sub-optimal.
thank you for this comparison in action, I tried twilight lately but I still rather buy immortal or athena, even with less HP if the main goal is just to survive a single massive lethal damage burst which I guess mostly magical and quickly flee from war
The reason why blade armor doesn't actually give you a 20% damage reduction is that it reduces the enemy's crit dmg stat, which starts at 200% (except for Lesley) and goes to 240% with Berserker's fury. So, the actual reduction is from 240 to 220 instead of 100 to 80; and 20/240 is indeed 8% actual damage reduction.
Which armor do you prefer against high atck spd heroes, blade armor or dominance ice? Great details and the visuals looks clean and well taught. This deserve more views. Kudos!
I prefer dominance ice. Blade armor has high defence stats and that's it, it's unique effect is not good enough but dominance can reduce HP regen(commonly high attk SPD heroes at least has a lifesteal items), can lower attack speed and it has decent armor
Thank you for the compliments! 💛 If I had to choose only 1, probably Dominance Ice, like what @kierzsenpai3542 mentioned. Dom Ice just wins out in overall utility for me. But, if you're playing tank, you 100% won't go wrong just buying both 🙃
I am so glad you made a video on this, I've explained this so many times but nobody understands that Oracle isn't good for a support hero, it's a Exp laner item, and Dreadnought Armor is so bad, legplate is just so much better for a squishy
There is also one defensive item in attack equipment Rose Gold Meteor/Magic Blade. It's maybe actually good against any (not only magic) burst heroes such a Badang, Cyber etc. And 2 utility defensive items: Wind of Nature and Winter Truncheon. I personally built Wind of Nature on my Carmilla against enemy Moscow, because rest enemy team was magic damage and only Moscow can melt me. Also Rock Potion gives unique 15% resilience and 500hp for 2 min for 1500 gold. Not dat good because resilience stacking multiplicative. So Tough Boots(30% resi) + Rock potion(15% resi) give total 40.5% resilience. But I suggest to keep gold if you proceed Immortality its better to replace it with other defensive item than rock potion
Immortality is also better for fanny , ling etc coz when they resurrect they resurrect with full energy /mana That way you have better chance of escaping
Agreed! I should probably have said it in my voiceover in the video, but I had already pre-recorded the audio and didn't want to go back to changing it 🙃
Appreciate the detailed breakdown! Still having hard time familiarising the advantages of each items, honestly. I think, in terms of the game IQ, I already have it. But I have to admit, I have to improve on item utilisation and maximising lane synchronisation with Lord. Looking forward on you future videos! i usually go full defense when i go with Belerick, such as the double helmet combo, thunder belt, dominance ice, and depending on the enemies team, either athena's or antique cuirass
Great video. Just to add, twilight armour has to combo with the double helmet. The higher your hp, the better. It definitely allows you to tank alot of hits from Lesley with DoI as well. I played Balmond (tank/jungler) oh boy the blade armour doesn't help at all. I sold that off for twilight armour. It tanks better. I sold off immortality too. Whats the point of second life if she will jst one shot your 2nd life. Lol.
Aye, Twilight Armor passive scales with extra HP, so it helps to have the Double Helmet Combo Wombo (say it together now 1... 2... 3). Yeah, Blade Armor does nothing against Lesley's True Dmg, and the HP from Double Helmet also helps tank even more True DMG. It honestly depends on the game situation though, bc of Twilight's super high CD of 5s, unless Lesley is constantly being forced back, she's gonna push in normal Physical Dmg too, which Blade Armor will be superior for. If you have the space, probably get both.
@@RubyRubyRubyGaming I dont think she got time (she was in full crit build without malefic roar) to respond to the Twilight armour switch because the moment I swith to those build, Lesley got overconfident (because she killed me twice 1v1) and she tried solo 1v1 again. Well, she got owned and we push to end the game. XD I may need to check the replay if she had Malefic roar when I had the Blade Armour..

@@RubyRubyRubyGaming I click prioritize for Queen's Wings and save up 1000 gold so that when I quickly sell Immortality, Queen's Wings would pop up ready to be bought.
like I said in your stream, your defense guide was extremely helpful! I'd like to see some role guides as well as magic and attack items from you in the future :]
This is a good guide for beginners that would like to understand defence items a little better. One minor inaccuracy you made was regarding the mention of Guardian's Helmet. Minions and creeps are two different entities. You should have mentioned that the reduced regeneration only applies to getting attacked by heroes and creeps, while minions do not reduce the passive healing when hit by them. Although not in the section of defence items, you could have mentioned something on Wind of Nature, Winter Truncheon, and Rose Gold Meteor. These items have their defensive capabilities too just like all the other items mentioned in your video. Considering you included two boots, it should be okay to include the above mentioned items into this video as well. Overall, you made a great comparison video of defence items. Good job and I am looking forward to your future content. Cheers uwu
A fair and critical comment, thank you for that! Actually, enemy minions do affect the passive regen for Guardian Helmet. Just to make sure, I went into Training Camp and tested it again on 3 different heroes, and I'm defo not getting full regen from Guardian's Passive when getting hit by minions. So I'll have to correct your correction here. 😅 Yeah, those items could have been included, but I kinda wanted to keep the video under 20 mins. Didn't want to bore you guys over that time limit 🤣 In hindsight, I probably should have put those in tho, like you said. Cheers, and I really appreciate the feedback! 💛
@@RubyRubyRubyGaming Oh, is that right? Apologies for the mistake hahaha Usually when I clear waves with Guardian's Helmet, it's not obvious that the reduced regeneration is applied since the aggro is usually on your own minions. So I probably never realised that. Understandable that you wanted to keep the video not too long in length. Thank you for the reply!
Bro this video is AMAZING! Keep posting more of these kind of videos. I want to see a drafting guide. What to prio pick / how to counter pick / what to look out for etc. Thank you! Love from Singapore bro
Super glad to have some local support! 💛 Appreciate the kind comments bro. And those are some good ideas, I will add this to my list of video ideas, thank you!
The reason why blade armor reduces less than the %20 as it says is this: when you get something that increases your crit damage, for example berserker fury with +%40 crit damage. what happens is, before you get berserkers fury the crit damage is already %200 and getting berserker makes it %240 so the damage that you do is not %40 increased the damage is %20 increased because %200 goes up to %240 (not %280 which would be %40 more than 200) and this is same with blade armor; if the crit damage is 200 it will be 180(which is -%10 damage) if it is %240 it will be %220(which is about -%8)...
Also, another tip! Antique Cuirass' passive can stack multiple times when all allies have bought it. This way, you can more effectively reduce all physical damage taken from enemies!
So I've tested this, unfortunately Antique's passive is unique, and so multiple Antique Cuirass held by multiple enemies cannot reduce enemy Physical Attack past 24%.
Thank you 💛 You can also check out @StrongwillGameTheory who has plenty of build guides on specific heroes. They really go deep in the math to make those guides!
At 9:30, when talking about blade armor, you say the crit damage isn actually reduced by 20%, but it actually is. Crit shots deal 200% of your physical attack as damage, and there you built berserker fury which boosts them to 240%, but blade armor reduces it to 220%. If you calculate it 1191 ÷ 240% * 220% is equal to 1092, so the damage is consistent.
Yes, that's true. I realised that after many people telling me about the calculations. I do still think many people expect the total damage when crit occurs to reduce damage by 20% tho. It's a technicality for sure. 8% reduction can still be useful
@@RubyRubyRubyGaming it can be more than 8% dmg reduction against heroes like Lesley and Ling that have lower crit base damage (140% if I'm not mistaken, instead of 200%). But still guardian helmet and twilight armor are preferable against Lesley

Also a tank main and I understand how much work this is and thoroughly appreciate it! I play almost all the tanks but I am a Hylos main and after the last update I buy thunder belt and twilight armor almost every game unless they have a lot of magic and then I won’t do the belt. But after using all the defense items for years the twilight armor cost and large burst hit protection make it feel like one of the better items to me right now. Was bummed to see it didn’t score too highly because it feels really strong right now
@@danbyes8893 No worries, bro. It's just my opinion so don't take it too hard. Perhaps because I'm not a Tank main, so I'm unable to appreciate the true power of Twilight? 😅
Thank you so much for this video !!
This is a very detailed video! ❤ It helps players to be more informed with the mechanics of items, to know the proper items to buy in different situations and know when to do so! Just a note though, and no offense, I love your videos! Oracle's passive only works for the hero who bought the item and its passive effect will not take effect on allies when you heal them. That's why Estes' healing on Layla was exactly the same regardless of whether or not he has Oracle. In order for Estes' healing to increase for allies, they will have to be the ones to buy Oracle instead of him!
Appreciate the love! 💛 I believe I included the tips on Oracle in the video too, so thank you for sharing it anyways

I kinda wish the other Life Drain items get the same treatment that Dominance Ice does because man, buying Necklace of Durance or Sea Halberd feels like I'm sacrificing my firstborn. I know they gave them extra passives recently but my god are they underwhelming

Props to you for making this guide and explaining it so good i was about to plan to do every item guide so new players will know what to build, mad respect for you dude keep on making this types of videos so new players will know what to build especially some players do not know what to build or how to counter enemies with items
You should do them too if you can bro, then we can help the newer players together 😇
Weakness of Athena Shield:
-High Magic Penetration Items that can make lower the magic defense and reduce it.
Weakness of Radiant Armor:
-Magic Penetration items:
Arcane boots, Genius Wand, and Devine Glaive.
-High Magic Power Items
-If your using this item radiant armor, heroes like pharsa and gusion that having a sustained damage per seconds and also have a burst magic damage, you may survive or may be killed.
If you using this item as marksman or mage or assassin you will take 75% or more damage, if you are fighter 50% or more and if you are support less than 50% and if your tank you will take 25% or more.
Oracle- for me it helps me a lot as a support user and sustained heroes user.
Weakness of oracle:
-Anti heal/shield/regen items: like Necklace of Durance,
Sea Halberd, and
Dominance.
-Anti Heal/Shield/Regen hero:
Baxia.
-Magic Penetration items:
Arcane boots, Genius Wand, and Devine Glaive.
Curse Hell met - for me it helps me to deal extra damage to enemy as a tank heroes.
If you noticed my grammars are wrong, Sorry because I'm not good at english so much, that's why I'm saying this... Sorry again.
I like how you explained the defense items and its actual effects in the game. Please do the same for the attack and magic items.
Glad you liked it! Working on those 2 videos RN 😉

Really nice explanation ,on defense growth per minute per 100 gold, very detail, i already aware of this theory, so good you can make the video of it, so everyone can aware of this theory :)
Nice one on catching on to the theory early. Let's go us Stats nerds! HAHAHA!
It’s so detailed, no wonder so many people watched it. (This is your most viewed video so far. Will you make items for other categories?)
Yeah, I might do it~
You work really hard. Loved and subed🔥
9:27 I think it's the 20% of the *extra damage* from the crit, rather than the total damage dealt.
Was abt to comment this.
the best guide video about items ive ever seen, thank you!
waiting for same guide for attack items as well!
Appreciate the kindness my friend! That guide is in the works~
This is a great video! Thanks. Hope you can add summary table for the stat you computed. So we can have an easy comparison for items. 🙏
Thank you! Let me see what I can do about this aye? Maybe I should create a Discord server...
Building against an enemy you're less likely to encounter, is IMO, at the very least sub-optimal.
best English defense video tutorial out there period.
Aww, thank you for the mega compliment bro! 💛
thank you for this comparison in action, I tried twilight lately but I still rather buy immortal or athena, even with less HP if the main goal is just to survive a single massive lethal damage burst which I guess mostly magical and quickly flee from war
Twilight Armor needs a wee bit more improvement
The reason why blade armor doesn't actually give you a 20% damage reduction is that it reduces the enemy's crit dmg stat, which starts at 200% (except for Lesley) and goes to 240% with Berserker's fury. So, the actual reduction is from 240 to 220 instead of 100 to 80; and 20/240 is indeed 8% actual damage reduction.
True dat. The math checks out for sure.
Any items to counter badang?
@@bluewall103 dominance ice
@@bluewall103 Rose golden meteor if you playing physical hero+Dreadnaught Armor

Welcome back! How long was it from when you stopped playing?
Which armor do you prefer against high atck spd heroes, blade armor or dominance ice?
Great details and the visuals looks clean and well taught. This deserve more views. Kudos!
I prefer dominance ice. Blade armor has high defence stats and that's it, it's unique effect is not good enough but dominance can reduce HP regen(commonly high attk SPD heroes at least has a lifesteal items), can lower attack speed and it has decent armor
Thank you for the compliments! 💛
If I had to choose only 1, probably Dominance Ice, like what @kierzsenpai3542 mentioned.
Heads being hit with nails and all with your comment bro. GG 😄
One of the best guide I've ever seen.
Keep up brother ❤
Appreciate it bro! 💛
Well, I must say, you have a good mind for this too my friend 😄
Immortality is also better for fanny , ling etc coz when they resurrect they resurrect with full energy /mana
That way you have better chance of escaping
Agreed! I should probably have said it in my voiceover in the video, but I had already pre-recorded the audio and didn't want to go back to changing it 🙃
Also with xborg
This is actually a pretty well made video! Hope you'll continue to upload tho
That's the plan~ 😉
Very informative video, thanks dude
Btw I have a suggestion, you should do a max range check for stuff like Dominance Ice, it would help some people
Good idea, I'm just thinking how to make it easier for our players to gauge the range
Wow. This is such a well-put video. You earned my sub!
Awesome, thank you!
I think at blade amour the 20%crit dmg will be reduced from the 200%crit dmg (or240% if u bought berserker)and not from 100%
I think you hit the nail on the head there. That might just be how the mechanic works. I'll have to verify this. Thank you for the insight!
You won't go wrong with full defense on Belerick 😄
XD
I may need to check the replay if she had Malefic roar when I had the Blade Armour..

Yeah, those items could have been included, but I kinda wanted to keep the video under 20 mins. Didn't want to bore you guys over that time limit 🤣 In hindsight, I probably should have put those in tho, like you said.
Cheers, and I really appreciate the feedback! 💛
@@RubyRubyRubyGaming Oh, is that right? Apologies for the mistake hahaha
Usually when I clear waves with Guardian's Helmet, it's not obvious that the reduced regeneration is applied since the aggro is usually on your own minions. So I probably never realised that.

I appreciate that brother! 💛 It's always nice to hear when people recognize the time and effort put into the video
Yeah, that's absolutely right bro!
@@RubyRubyRubyGaming Oh 🥲 Okie!

this is super awesome!😍 i would love to watch your attack guide!
Working on it! 💛
Aww, and they just updated the items too.
