Kool Herc is the godfather of hip hop but he didn't invent the vinyl, the turntable or the microphone. Everything Herc, Flash, Hollywood and Grand Wizard Theodore built was built on top of a foundation both black and white. From iambic pentameter to the griots and slam poets to the beatniks of the 50's. Here in the UK we had a radio DJ called Jimmy Saville (who was a fucking despicable sexual predator) but he hosted the first live deejay set with two turntables in 1947. It's human culture.
