The current hospital has been at capacity for years - I was admitted for surgery there in 1975 and had to change into hospital clothing in the communal toilets, and then join the train of beds that snaked down the corridor and the middle of the ward. WTF - 50 years later and they still have the same issue with beds.
We have a rapidly ageing population, which will put more stress on the health system, and they're trumpeting a build smaller than what forecasting and planning suggested was needed how many years ago? Five? Ten? There are no words....
Hospitals are never staffed to capacity, they are staffed for a predicted number of beds. If the beds fill to capacity, one then has to find staff to fill the shortfall. They are definitely increasing private radiology services in the community, as well as private laboratory services , though to be fair, that has been happening for a while.it is true hospital stays are shorter, recovery from a hip replacement used to be 10 or 11 days compared to 4 now, however with an older population, there are often longer stays sorting rehab, placement and home situations.
Re: shorter stays, there is actually evidence that recovery is influenced by surroundings e.g. being at home, access to or views of greenspace from hospital. There's lots of reasons for it, and it obviously needs to be within reason and appropriate to the patient, but expecting a reduction in stay length on average isn't unreasonable. That doesn’t mean the reduction in number of beds is ok though.
I havent lived down south for 25 odd years so not 100% sure but does Dunedin hospital still service places like Oamaru, Gore, and all the surrounding areas? Its not just Dunedin thats got to deal with this?
New Zealand needs an independent oversight and full public FOIA investigation into how and direction of LOTTO earnings . I say that will stand our hospitals back up . If money is still lacking at least the public oversight has been done into where LOTTO earnings go .
If you get a health minister from Temu, you get a hospital from Temu
😂😂
Not quite u order a Peewee Herman impersonator from temu you get Simeon brown

It has the be present-proofed before it can be future-proofed.
Talks about "future proofing"
Refuses to current proof it
They plan to future proof it by leaving two floors completely empty. Just think of it as really wide corridors to put more beds in.
Simeon's car there; looks nothing like a used Corolla
Nice work Chewie!!
" Wealth without Health ain't much use...." sick old people often remind me....

It’s time to get money out of our politics. These corporates and wealthy that influence politicians in their decision making must stop.
How can a 12 year old be in this important position

Correct
I know PR advice is to stick to your talking points regardless of the questions, but seeing it live is quite something
So with all this down-sizing WHY is the GOVT NOT DOWNSIZING OUT TAX BASE???
Because we are broke thanks to the idiots that voted in the Labour coalition over the previous two terms!
Luxon's Evil Dobby.....
Mad respect for standing right in front
Simeon the Stain will have every portfolio by the time Nationals term is up 😂
They move him on before the shit hits the fan - the speed limits increase are taking effect now and Bishop will take the hit for those.
A welcome announcement = “at least it’s not a hole in the ground”
Completely inadequate for purpose...

Woke presenters, woke propaganda
It's a shame the new hospital won't have enough resources to take a look at your brain damage.
