I’ve always loved how Dave/Marty inverted the power chords on Holy wars. Play it like a straight up power chord then inverted on the next measure. Gives a slightly “strange” flavor to it. (Alien type shit-depending on how good my weed was) Barely noticeable but noticeable enough to hear it.
Instantly one of my favorite channels. We have a lot of the same tastes and when you go from megadeth/LOG to RR and EVH you really hook a guy like me. Been listening to a lot of your videos while at work on binge mode. Great work man!!! Subscriber!!!
Thanks for the chord play. I’ve always thought Dave Mustaine came up with cool chord progressions and interesting chromatic riffing. Rust in Peace, in particular, was just packed with examples of this great guitar work.
That's true and I know a lot of the guitarists that he's played with seem to get most of the attention, but Mustaine totally has some great ideas and tricks up his sleeve - especially when writing a metal song and putting his riffs/ideas together. Thanks for watching and ROCK ON\m/
I can't believe I missed this episode of chord play ?! Megadeth is so amazing !! The depth of the sound they create is mind blowing!! Thank you for this & I hope you revisit Megadeth in the near future !!!
51 years young. just switching from bass to lead guitar. oh my f**k this is fun. anyways im at the "i dont wanna play everything in power chords" phase. u sir, are gonna help out . Alot...thanks
This episode was awesome. First that story is hilarious. And I totally agree with you about Dave writing the good riffs/ songs in Metallica's good days. I very much prefer Megadeth. And the chords are so textured and dark. Thank you!
Thanks! The lighting was bad back then, but this lesson is still pretty solid. : ) Megadeth has always been grittier than Metallica. Like you said that dark texture just gave them an edge. Rock on!
I’m with you. My best buddy and I were Metallica fans in high school and I forgot exactly how but something between Rust in Peace and Symphony I became a fan. Playing guitar for 30+years and playing their music makes me a better guitar player.
Im with ya Dave. Love some Megadeth!!! Great lesson. I feel the same about the riffs you covered here. This lesson could have went on for days🤟 Love your breakdown of the Spider-chord🕷🕸
I stopped listening to Metallica when the black album was released,i stil listen to the old albums. Megadeth is and will allways be my favorite band alongside pantera.Mustaine is King🤘🤘🤘
Always loved the rythmn playing/progressions of megadeth, especially Marty Freidman ,but the whole band ,chord voicings /lead runs,do they just paly using scales they know by ear first or experiment with tonalities and analyse them after, thanks for this look at a great ,interesting meatal band.
I always got my chops busted for liking modern Megadeth more than modern Metallica! I love Metallica’s lepper messiah, disposable heroes, etc. hey they got gr8 songs. But modern Metallica, from Load and up, does not do it for me! Nice to know you share that view! Rock on, awesome lessons bro! 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 subbed and liked
I guess you kinda were lucky when you didn't ever see them live. I was a huge Megadeth fan and around 2008 I went to see them live on a festival and I'm not gonna lie, it was the worst gig I've ever seen. They were the last show number and my friends already left but I stayed to watch them, they were one of the biggest reason I travelled to that festival. However, after a couple of songs I couldn't listen to it anymore and left to find my friends. I don't know what was going on but it wasn't right. It's like they had some tone deaf amateur singing drunk because it wasn't what you were supposed to hear on the song. That said, it's more like playing lottery when you go see them, they're not always bad. I saw them another time, I forget if it was a couple of years before or when, but then they were just fine. Yet it's a bit unfortunate to say that seeing Megadeth was just fine if you've seen gigs from the early 90's and The Rude Awakening dvd. If you haven't seen it, you should check out an interview with the mixing engineer/producer of Megadeth early years by Spectre Sound Studios on youtube.
I don't think you need to chose side in the Metallica vs Megadeth ”conflict”. Both bands are great with their own legacy. Megadeth sure do have more interesting chords and scales and I'm not a big fan of Metallica's recent albums. But classic Metallica are hard to match!
Megadeth is definitely a better choice than listening to Metallica!! After Master of Puppets, they went to a different direction and Megadeth Kept Playing Awesome Music!! Especially the Guitar Work!!!
Youthanasia is my favorite with Marty Friedman. I know, I know, it's not like Peace Sells or those. Awesome album
Great album too! Talking about Megadeth albums always end up in either great, fabulous or epic albums! 🤘🤘🤘
The production and songwriting on Youthanasia was tops. Singing and playing were peak.

Wayne Love feel the same way dude
Yeah, I like his chord choices when he’s playing lines and the names he gives things as well.
same here, just discovered a week or so ago and have been watching all his videos every day.
Same here too, This guy is extremely knowledgeable and I can learn a lot from.
David!! Definitely play more MEGADETH!!! There's so many Awesome Guitar Riffs!!!
WAKE UP DEAD! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻I love that riff👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks bro I blast your vids on my drives to work and practice the stuff you teach after sick stuff thanks
I too have always been intrigued to say the least in Megadeth. Dave amd Marty were a true force to reckon with. Perhaps the best Metal tandem ever.
I can't believe I missed this episode of chord play ?! Megadeth is so amazing !! The depth of the sound they create is mind blowing!! Thank you for this & I hope you revisit Megadeth in the near future !!!

Rock on!
It's an excellent lesson. I never even noticed the lighting.
I think what your doing, highlighting some chord's and techniques and, the bands your choosing is very cool man.
I’m late to your channel here, but man I really dig what you’ve put up here. Hope to find more!
Nice info man! thanks! a hug from this Argentinian Guy living in Berlin

I dig it Dave.
well played, MD are, indeed, a genius band.
We can all thanks James & Lars having fired Dave cause if not Megadeth could never exist...
No,we can't. That's a ridiculous idea. It might have been necessary but it still was mean. Dave survived and that's to his credit, not Lars or James.
@@jeffpepin399 to be fair, Dave was a psycho back then. Breaking people’s legs… come on!
^ He allegedly put a hex on someone who broke his leg in a car accident. Saying Dave was responsible is a stretch
Man the NAMM story is so cool! :D
Love it.
Thanks dude and thanks for watching too!
: )

The C#m(#5) I would tend to think of as an A/C# slash chord, rather. Sounds great either way.
Your channel is so awesome , just found it and it has turned out to become very helpful on guitar tips , thank you 🙂
So good stuff, even happen to like the same parts ! Definitely subbed
Saw them in Glasgow Scotland when I was 38, “Peace sells” kicked in…”Boom”💥 I was 14 again, Also agree wholeheartedly with your Metallica sentiment!
Thank, thank you!
I stopped listening to Metallica when the black album was released,i stil listen to the old albums. Megadeth is and will allways be my favorite band alongside pantera.Mustaine is King🤘🤘🤘
More please
My favorite album is youthanasia
freaking good and neat!!!

I like old-school Metallica, but I LOVE old-school Megadeth!
: )
Thanks for watching and rock on!
Peace sales!
I have seen them seven times.
I always got my chops busted for liking modern Megadeth more than modern Metallica!

Do some Annihilator plz! Jeff Waters has done great arpeggios
i play the min 9 spread between frets 5, 7 and 9, with open strings lol, took ages to get it down, i thought that was the way, maybe i am wrong..
Does Metallica use the spider chord on the song Ride the lightning? The section that kinda glues the main meat of the song to the faster part
Can you do a video about "My last words" from PSBWB? That intro is weird!
One of my all time favorite bands. Like em better than metallica too. Love both bands but Megadeth always plays interesting and challenging stuff.
Kirk Hammett should watch this and take notes.
Hahahahahahahahahaha!
Now that was funny!
: )
I don't think Lars would let Kirk watch this. LOLz
chords of SLAYER please..thank you for the content.
Can we please have the chords of Dream Theatre??!!

Great stuff dave..i love your channel..always informative..great taste
@@LateNightLessons love your channel..quality learning..love your passion for the instrument
Megadeth is my all time favorite band. Was an early Metallica fan as well until they ran out of mustaine riffs... lol
0/8
I prefer Megadeth over Metallica because there is more melody in the writing.
Megadeth is definitely a better choice than listening to Metallica!! After Master of Puppets, they went to a different direction and Megadeth Kept Playing Awesome Music!! Especially the Guitar Work!!!
shut up
Your volume is too low. I have to turn up too much to watch. ✌
Psst... I like Megadeth better too!!
you talk too much. just show us and play.
problem with Metallica is repetition..
learn a few song you can play most of them..
megadeth is always unique
