We had quite a blow here in Mid Devon, Weston. You're spot on about the state of the roads. In general the UK's roads are a national disgrace and an international embarrassment and the biggest insult is that you are expected to pay a tax which legally allows you to wreck your vehicle on them.

A good example is 're-surfacing' where they chuck down tons of loose chippings which end up in the gutters after they have decimated vehicle paintwork, windscreens, and radiators. These chippings are a class one danger to drivers as well as vehicles.

The wind was horrendous for me. Took me 9 hours and two tanks of fuel to get back from Croydon. That was on Monday though.
I think the south coast took the brunt of it and sheltered Somerset a bit.
