I have been to the Forbidden City 14 times, yes 14. It is a fascinating place and never ceases to astound me. I lived in China for 20 years. There is another Forbidden City in Shenyang, much smaller but also fascinating. It was the Qing seat of power before the fall of the Ming.
There was nothing romantic about a night with a emperor. The system was not fair and keeping harmony with many women to one man is impossible, but men kept ignoring that reality.
@@KittymoreJoyanyone knowing the Chinese history knows how horrible it was. The only place where it's romantic is in Cdramas. Romantic and heavily borderline scenarios.
@@Vee44443 Don’t you just love those Cdramas? Having watched a far number, I am beginning to see the rather sexist slant in a lot of these. People forget, that noble woman down to commoners had bound feet, I doubt there were many fathers who educated their daughters ,kept their feet free and taught them martial arts.. Cdramas are fantasy China of yesterdays lore and myths. The reality of life was much more brutal and short and most marriages were simply a money transaction to buy a womb for a son and heir. Between the years of war, famine, plagues after the wars destroyed land and crops, how any body survived to plant the next generations is amazing when you think of the number of males killed in a battle could number in the thousands in just one skirmish, where did the remaining women have babies with? That question of mine has never been answered by Chinese Historians as of yet. I guess old men and boys not in the army. But conscription forced on the farmers, age 12 and up would be going to war would they not? And it makes me shake my head that men thought women were weak, if all the able bodied men and boys were taken from a village and did not return, just who did they think were doing the so- called man jobs- the women plus raising the children. History is a very distorted, one sided male dominated ego
I rather be a commoner girl. It is not an honor to be a concubine. So stressful in every way. It must be hell in there with all the politicking in there.
I’m not sure they had great lives either. Life either involved a lot of work and poverty (plus all the risks associated with childbirth) and little control over their lives.
The girls had no choice - there families were compelled to present them perhaps hoping they would not be deemed pretty, healthy or talented enough but many “ passed “ the test and off the went forever - some as young as 10 😢
@@jayolovitt5969 some historians said they were paid rather well...they were the daughters of important ppl. They were paid much better than the eunuchs, who were just poor ppl who had to work somewhere. On the other hand....all that plotting and poisoning! YIKES! All the best to you!
Yeah you couldn't share your thoughts and are in constant stress and danger, if you have any children they are in even more danger than you are, who'd want to live like that? If you were of a lower status at least you could raise your own kids and maybe get grandkids and a good life. Not to mention see your own family and friends. Who can have actual friends in a backstabbing harem?
Recommend Dramas are as follows : (1) Empress in Palace or Legend of Zhen Huan -- set in Qing Dynasty Time period (TP) (2) Ruyi Palace of love -- set in Qing Dynasty TP. (5) Legend of Lu Zhen aka Female Prime minister -- set in Northern Qi Dynasty TP . (6) Empress of China -- set in Tang Dynasty TP ( based on Wu Meninang) (7) Romance of 3 Kingdoms is my favourite -- set in end of Han Dynasty TP .
@Dianne+k8f Though Asia and Africa where more advanced than Europe and the Western world they didn't have cameras. The pictures are from a series of Asian Dramas you can watch.
I'd rather be anywhere else. China was not a country which favored women of any class. I wonder how many women committed suicide due to depression and/or despair.
Normal women were treated are brood mares rather than people... especially in Asia when the powerful had harem of dozens of women who's job it was to entertain their lord or produce children for him At least if you were a queen in Europe it could kinda be better but your main job was to produce a heir... Either way women were and in some places still are... Broodmares (I'm a woman who works in stem and I'm shocked to see so many intelligent women happy to be staying at home moms dispute having a PHD and or could earn more their husband)

I would love to see it in person.

How lucky were you... It's a dream I will probably never achieve but it makes ones' imagination work. It is indeed fascinating and beautiful. 🍀

There were many scandals, intrigues, murders etc. etc. ALWAYS!! There was always a hierarchy of wives and concubines.
Did Emperor Jailing change his ways after the incident ?
Please cover the story of royal families after the fall of Ming. Did they kill them all?
Guilted cage, like living in the office or being a permanent Big Brother contestant. Awful… 😬
Are these actual photos? Very beautiful women.

@@calvinblue894India was much better for women in old times atleast compare to China.
The Empire have noting in his underclothes 😅😂 small really small if you ask me , that's way so many women 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This is the Burrito system where An Lingrong and Hailan wrap on a special wrapper and meticulously prepared for the Emperor to be enjoyed.
“Encounter”? Repulsive
All these stories have concubines. So horrible, not honor at all. What about the wife?
Feminism wasn't invented back then, don't think it would have lasted very long - personal opinion.
Women and girls were property. Many men today still see us as subhuman appliances.
Women! 😅
The eunuchs were prized.
