I can not find this track on youtube. All rights belong to its owner and author.
Note: The speed on this LP was slowed down (by me) due to an assumed speed error with recording.

This is original akamba music and I can't be separated from it for it brought about our independence in zim❤
Zimbabwe independence indeed.I miss my uncle may his soul continue to rest in peace. He loved this type of music.
correction: Luo Benga not Akamba
Peter Ondielo Jeudi. One of the best Shirati composers. I remember kwachi bade dongo no. 7.
Will look out for this track.
Oh, Dear Lord. Finally able to lay my hands on the treasured hit song by Mwalimu DO Misiani and his iconic D.O.7 Shirati Jazz. As attested to by Cde Ngoni in the chat thread, this was part of the collection played at nighttime orientation meetings called pungwes during the 70s liberation struggle of Zimbabwe. The vinyl records were brought from East Africa by guerillas returning from training in Tanzania and played as part of the morari (morale raising) sessions with the civilian population called POVO (borrowed from Portuguese). The music served to entertain the armed combatants and the civilian masses and bring them closer together in spirit. Thank you so much Jason for this upload. Please if you may, kindly look up Heleni Akinyi and Pina Lichna from DO Misiani and his Shirati Jazz as well as Richard Odak by the Kawere Boys. Keep up the tremendous work, Zimbabwe appreciates your efforts and will protect the legacy of Benga music in the future even though our brothers and sisters from Kenya wonder how this seemingly age-old Luo music has defied time in faraway Zimbabwe. Asante sana ndugu.
as a west African I saluted & valued your fight thank you for your service to liberated your peoples in that region of Africa
Kindly please am not Luo am Luhya but so Much addicted to yesteryears benga. During our early 70"s we consumed lot's of this Music.
There's this record...J. HAYA... Josephine Haya by The shirati Band of Mwalimu DO Misiani. On RUclips there's that record J.Haya exactly what it was but the Music is not the J.HAYA. Kindly please whoever is doing this give us the really J. HAYA. BY MWALIMU MISIAN OF SHIRATI
I love African music ,plenty of talent
i am sure J.Haya is already here on youtube--will look for it n provide link here
Music is both words and instruments/ sounds. Each can independently be enjoyed, and one can also enjoy both. Old Luhya/Kisii/Ekigusi Music is nice. They have some conversations in the last part of their songs, but the instruments are very nice 👌.
Brother Byrne, am very excited and you have to be careful here. You are dangerously reminding us of our days in jungles of Zimbabwe Kkkkkk, when we were prosecuting the guerrilla of war independence in the mid 1970s. We were in Nyajena mountains, Masvingo. Benga of Kenya was the only type of music we played on radio turntables. And We a had type of dance we called Mujibha dance, which we choreographed in a queue of 2 or more guerrillas in makeshifts base. The whole forest would reverberate as we tramped the ground, especially after a successful ambush as we rested in makeshift base camp. Life was enjoyable, morale was, yes in a war situation. Am Benga For life. Good sir
Then I will tread lightly here... You have given a very clear and personal visual to this experience, which makes me understand the danger that has been invoked through listening to this music, to see these visions so clearly. And what an image and thank you for that. And clearly a successful mission. The forest reverberating from the tramping on the ground!!
And please.. What is Kkkkkk??
We are missing these voices from the might Achieng.
The song sounds as if it was done this year 2023.
Oooooh good memories.
I agree.
Mr Bryne you are a star ,,from where ever you come ,,,this is for our 2023 Christmas
It's very interesting that He is an American, he told me that he once lived in Arusha in Tanzania 🇹🇿, and was amazed by the unique way benga music 🎶 is played. He has definitely done a great job of sharing with us this old music of our youth days.
Thanks again George. Really glad to hear this!
All true. Thanks again Dr. Lukwago! These Benga sounds are a lost world to most of us outside of Africa (and Barranquilla, Columbia), and very thankful to have been awakened after spending those years in Arusha, learning of Benga there through my colleagues as well as EAC folks since all in the same building, and also driving to Nairobi to hear great 🎶 🎶 🎶. But if I were to go back, Western Kenya (Kisumu, Kisii County) and down to the western Tanzania border would be of most interest, especially if traces of this music can still be heard.
The great Daniel Owino with his best voice combination with all the melodies.
For sure benga played big roll on liberation ❤ 100%. Sweet benga for life.
Peter Akida Ondielo, the composer of the record. One of the best in Shirati Jazz.
Jeudi omin ongudha
This is what I was referring to ,,JANYAMUSI, ,,,although the speed has been slightly reduced, ,what a hit ,,we played it and broke our legs in Zimbabwe
Excellent, I was patiently waiting for this ,,keep us intertained by yesteryear melodies ,,well done
George. Thank you for this. More to come for sure. Such great melodies.
I love Africa
Amazing, the initial music rhythm sounds like that of AWEYO MAN'GENY, a song played by Kawere boys band !!
Great catch. Just listened to the Kawere Boys track, and wow. A great one.
@jasonbyrne_benga You may also enjoy listening to JOYCE ADHIAMBO, another track by Kawere Boys Band.
What an incredible track. Thank you for this!

Thank you for the reply
@meshackamimo1945 I like the way Dr. Meshach Amimo @meshackamimo keeps us updated on old benga music 🎶. You made me listen to music by your band Migori stars, like Nyamin Ojolo, etc. Thank you for sharing knowledge with us, and greetings from Uganda 🇺🇬.
@@Dr.lukwagoAsuman you are most welkam my bro---benga was such a sweet genre in the 70s and 80s--before being defiled by lazy artists of today. The genre was the cultural flagship of the Luo community of East africa
