@Ivanka Cerqueira damn straight. You can have the best of intentions to keep personal life compartmentalized from artistic/professional life, but at the end of the day we are all human, and reality is messier than that.
A man and a woman spending all that time together on the road, on the stage, in a songwriting room, with that level of chemistry… I’d say the odds are against them NOT getting together.
It’s unfortunate for those of us who loved the music that chemistry produced, but for their personal lives, it was the right call.

When I watch them perform together I feel like I need to go to confession afterwards, and I've been an agnostic for 30 years.
That riff is just perfect!
The amount of talent that this takes is actually incredible... to be right next to a person singing in a totally different note that is mutlple octives below/above what you are supposed to be singing, and making it sound good is so difficult... and to have them sound like this live is unheard of in today's music... a breath of fresh air!

my first time hearing them was live. They opened for Emmylou Harris. I brought my mum to see her for Mother's Day. Boy was I blown away by their acoustic set. I can't even remember the rest of the show, just the absolute chemistry these two shared.
I come back to this over and over... so gutted I never got to see them live. Saw JPW solo and it was lovely, but to me the Civil Wars was a case of the whole being more than the sum of its already extraordinary parts. Will always hope for a reunion...

JP n Joy encapsulate a lost sacred soulful southern American sound. the likes of was lost on the battlefields of the Civil War... only to be dug up n brought back to life w/a modern twist... sound so good I would put it in a needle and spike my vein to hear again... I m addicted to the Civil Wars. I v never posted b4 now for a band or anything but hearing them....

I absolutely love their sound. It's refreshing to see how delightful their personalities are live. I think one indicator of great musicians is that they are able to reach & attract fans of multi-generations. They have done this for sure. That's so sad they broke up,they were really amazing too 😢.....I remember my first time hearing them...it was like 6am n I had just woken up too the sound of the beautiful soundof a guitar.then I heard them Open up the song with their beautiful harmony....I was wide awake by the time John Paul started singing his 1st line,and by the time they got tho the chorus I felt like they knew me,like they could relate to my very soul...then when joy hit that one note I just knew they were awesome and that they were going to be huge.that was the 1st time I had ever heard Barton hollow.
My 9 year old was listening to this with his eyes closed, and was JAMMING out!
