    I made simpler version without the Veritas miter (I really like that and may need to make a new one). In front of the oak fence, I added a sacrificial pine fence with slotted holes in the oak and thumb screws. With this, I can easily replace the pine fence when it wears out. I can also advance it using the thumb screws to present a new end grain surface when the old one gets too much tear out and I can slip business cards between the oak fence and the pine one to make sure that the front of the pine fence is truly square to the track edge.

    Great build. I am way too cheap to buy veritas stuff, so I will try to build an adjustable fence myself, as easily as possible. Have ever considered building one without a kit? How would you solve a moveable fence?

    • @WoodByWrightHowTo
      @WoodByWrightHowTo  Год назад

      In that case I would make one I could set at 90 or 45.

    • @petrsidlo7614
      @petrsidlo7614 Год назад +1

      @@WoodByWrightHowTo I have one fixed for 90 and one fixed for 45. I was just toying with the idea of making stuff with unusual angles. Easiest way to solve the fence that came to my mind was raise the shooting board by about an inch (two sticks at each end acting as legs) then capture the fence on one side with bolt that goes into the board via threaded insert. Then secure the other side with a clamp that has enough clearance thanks to the raised board. I hope the clamp will hold.

    Great video James. I have the Veritas fence and plan to build my 2nd shooting board soon. The threaded insert that gets epoxied in, I didn't see a measurement for how far it should be from the edge in the LV instructions, do you have that information? When I asked about getting a spare threaded insert LV offered to sell it for $1.75.

    And now for something completely different... B.L.O. and paste wax 😂😂
    Is it possible to make a shooting board (with this Veritas Shooting Board Fence) for left handed people? (On my workbench I would use it on the left side of my bench, so the track for the shooting plane would be on the other side of the board. Is it possible to mirror the Veritas thingy, or not?)

    Do you think the track has to go much past the rail as you wouldn't put any inward pressure there Then you could have a longer track to shoot longer boards?

    • @WoodByWrightHowTo
      @WoodByWrightHowTo  3 года назад +1

      It's good for to go two or three inches past the fence. So you could make a longer one. But if you want longer you can always get another track and connect them together.

      It all depends on how wide of boards you want to shoot. with it currently set up I wouldn't have much problem with doing 12-in wide boards a much wider than that would be difficult. though at that point I'd rather do it in the vise than on a shooting board.
