    It's nice to see some Scioto action. I grew up fishing Scioto River around South of Chillicothe to Circleville area. My biggest flathead from the Scioto has been 51lbs. But unfortunately we had a problem with people limblining them out and illegally selling to paylakes so we dont see the giants up here anymore and the blues dont make it up this far from the Ohio. I did catch a 22lb blue south of here near Piketon however. Those were some nice flattys you caught!! Keep up the good work. I really enjoy your channel buddy

      51Ib flathead is a dang nice fish for the scioto river I’ve always been told there 60 and 70pounders in the Scioto it’s deep enough in spots for them and yea I’ve had other people say the blues don’t go very far north my biggest blue out of Scioto is 45Ibs it was a beast and Yano most blues don’t get length to then there real short and fat but this one was fat and had a lot of length to it I’d say it was close to 50inchs I never measured it but I weighed it and it was dead on 45Ibs and hey I appreciate you checking my channel out and watching my videos

      I don’t think your aloud to fish with crappie in Ohio me personally I don’t use game fish as bait but ik the regulations are different in other states not sure on Ohio though but bluegills and sunfish are really good live bait up here

    A long time ago I learned that a big flathead will let you take line back in the reel when he feels like it. The upriver charge in some cases is the tiering out period. Other times it is just to strip all the line from your reel, (even 80 lb braid with 24lbs of drag) pop the knot and not even wave good bye. That is the reason i upgraded gear, line and hooks. 100 to 120 lb braid with 32 to 44 lbs of drag and i finally got to see what was wreaking the lighter gear. I didnt have a scale but he was big enough to eat 20 to 30lb blues or flats. He hit a carp that was 4 to 6lb range. It felt more like hooking a ford ranger than a fish. Keep up the scouting and try large chunks of beef liver and the huge leaches with the stripes down the side. Flathead love them!

      Heck yea man and I’ve heard leaches are good catfish bait but never tried them I appreciate you checking the video out

    On the circle hooks just a good pull or winding the reel will set the hook

    • @FirstCastAngling
      @FirstCastAngling  3 месяца назад +2

      Well I’ll be honest with ya I’ve seen a lot of people miss fish on circle hooks by reeling down on em when your running a lot of drag it’s a lot better to set the hook a lil even if they do it for ya I’ve used circle hooks for years and never missed a fish for doing that so that’s why I do that you’ll miss fish a lot if u reel down on em not always but sometimes

      I've used this method, I don't think your wrong, but I'm gonna make sure I got him hooked good, no sense in popping the hook out of a 70lb cats mouth just because I didn't give an extra tug up ya know
