It's just not weird at all lol. They probably have the rights to the KOSMOS model because they made it. They didn't have xenogears licenses so fei wasn't there. The other thing as well that is important, the person who does the vocals for Future Awaits is the same person who did the vocals for some songs in Xenogears and Xenosaga 1.
Very interesting video. I can't wait to see what Monolith has in store for us on the Switch 2. Honestly while I would be ecstatic for a new Xenoblade, I think the right move for them would be to do something entirely new and different. One of the most similar companies to Monolith Soft imo is From Soft. They both are well respected developers that output extremely high quality games at a regular pace. Even on a game to game comparison it's pretty interesting: Xenoblade 1 - Dark Souls 1 classics of their respective genres. Xenoblade X - Bloodborne in the vein of the previous games but entirely its own thing as well. Xenoblade 2 - Dark Souls 2 the black sheep of the trilogies that still has a very loyal fanbase. Xenoblade 3 - Dark Souls 3 the culmination of their trilogies and what many consider the most evolved versions of their formulas. Now what we haven't gotten is Monolith's Elden Ring. I think they have it in them to make a Xenoblade-esque game that has everything fans love about Monolith games but at the same time opens up the formula to be more accessible to newcomers. That's one of the biggest problems with Xenoblade is that it is simply very niche. I really think Monolith deserves and is capable of creating a breakout hit that sells 10 or even 20 million. I don't think they'll get that with another numbered Xenoblade entry however and while I would love more Xenoblade games and think they'll happen eventually, I believe Monolith's new IP will be their most ambitious, high budget and newcomer friendly game yet.
Bandai Namco seems a lot more interested in remastering/remaking their classic catalogue now than when we got that leak that a Xenosaga remaster wasn't financially viable back in 2019. Since they remastered Baten Kaitos which was definitely less financially successful than a Xenosaga remaster would have been I think Xenosaga is a shoe in for a remaster or even a remake in the relative future. I'm kind of hoping Bandai greenlights remasters of more of their classic JRPG series like the original 4 .hack games as well, G.U.'s been remastered and I want the original games remastered as well. At the moment it just seems random what series outside of Tales will get remasters at this point from them. I definitely think Xenoblade X DE has been in the works for a while and will most likely be a first year release for the Switch 2. The 10th anniversary for X is next year as well, and if Xenoblade DE being released on it's 10th anniversary is anything to go by that most likely means X will be getting it's DE next year. I would not be surprised if it's one of the games shown off in the upcoming Switch 2 commercial. I think Xenobalde 4 will most likely be a 2027 release as there is about a 5 year gap between releases of new Xeno games. I'm not too sure about this new IP everyone keeps assuming they're working on because of the recruitment art they've had on their website. That's to entice new employees to work for them not so much showing off ideas for new IP. I'd love to see another Baten Kaitos game but that's up to Bandai. They might have them work on Project X Zone 3, a Soma Bringer remake, or another Super Robot Wars game in the future as well. Who knows. I just don't think Monolith will be coming up with a random new IP out of nowhere without it being related to Xeno or Baten Kaitos. It's a bit of a risk to do that even if they're a very well known developer at this point. We'll see if anything happens though.
Being a Nintendo fan shouldn't preclude you from playing other Xeno-games, unless you hate RPGs, which I know some Nintendo fans (Mainly the Gamecube-sub fandom) do. Especially when Xenogears is basically the spiritual successor of Final Fantasy 6 and Chrono Trigger: Magitek Armour = Gears, House Figaro = House Fatima (Soraya Saga wrote the story and created the characters of both), Lavos = Deus, and Tetsuya Takahawshi wanted Magitek Armour to take the role of Espers - which is what the Gears did, they have the same relationship to Deus as the Espers had to the Goddesses. And so on.... Xenoblade Chronicles is basically a reimagining of Xenogears, although the story is heavily stripped down and made less intense (for example, to bring it up to Xenogears, instead of Metalface killing Fiora, Shulk would have been the one to kill Fiora after going out of control - instead of Shulk going on a revenge tour, he'd be driven out of the village and start his journey with incredible guilt... also, Shulk would have killed Rein, and the role would have been largely filled by Bart - who is a bit of a reimagining of Edgar and Sabin in one character). Probably the big difference is that the Xenoblade games are less story-focused, and more about exploration, building toward making big open world experiences.

Miyazaki usually prefers 1 and done IP, which minimises being tied to a publisher regarding their creative vision, e.g. since Demon Souls and Bloodborne is a Sony/Playstation IP, but Fromsoft does own Sekiro and Elden Ring(but not Dark Souls which is Bandai Namco IP). But Monolift's case is different in that a new IP is created for each jump of publisher. And so in Takahashi's case, he only creates a new IP when their company change ownership, and keep producing games for that new series. @@Deebus I was allowing extra time for developing on a more powerful system and knowing they got that new IP, also it was with the caveat that we do get Xenosaga remakes (which I know is low, but this is a wish list). I’m alright with waiting a bit longer if it gives us a more polished and better game, especially if we get other games in the meantime. I know Monolith Soft is increasing but idk how teams are divvied up, not to mention they’re supporting a lot of other Nintendo projects too
