Very good analysis. I've studied Wing Chung for ten years and five styles of tai chi for fifteen and I couldn't have put it better. Thank you for posting it.
These are general differences that I have observed through my study and training and they are not set in stone. There will always be overlapping principles where one style will do something characteristic of the other style and vice versa. Like Yin always has a small part of Yang within itself, and vice versa. Questions/comments?
+Wing Chun Kid -Tai Chi JKD Kung Fu What's the drills called in tai chi for sensitivity. is it like push hands? Oh and wanna tai chi style should I begin with? and wing chun?
thank you. very nice introduction and comparison. we had a Wing Chun student in our tai chi class and now I understand why he said something's were similar, but other things were different.
Wing Chun, Tai Chi, JKD, Kung Fu - Sifu David . Could the two disciplines of wing chun and tai chi be combined into a new art form like Tai chun or wing chi ? I know they are very different styles but combining the explosive wing chun maneuver with the body throws of tai chi would be great . What are your thoughts ?
There is also a big difference in the internal structure of both arts. Tai Chi develops a highly elastic body, and incredible internal pressure that is responsible for many of its seemingly magical qualities.
From my perspective Wing chun has both Triangle and circle. The bong sao f.example is designed to misalign the incoming force, neutralizing or re-directing it using the circle. In our school we say: If nothing obstructs, go direct (Triangle) If obstruction is weak, crush through (Triangle). If obstruction is "happy", change the angle (circle). If obstruction is solid, listen for mistakes..
Thank you so much! I have been trying to learn for more than 50 years (Tai Chi, Akido, Kempo) the way of the martial arts, and most of the time spend in a blanket of fog not knowing what the exercises are for, and what is it meant to do. It is so nice to see a young man like you explain it in a rational and scientific way. I am in the process of teaching my kids the way of the martial arts and your videos will be a center piece of their education.
I agree with your statement that Wing chun controls the center but it's mostly about keeping your elbows in the center of your body and using it as leverage for blocks. not forcing the blocks but shifting the energy past you
Such a wonderful video you have made. simply amazed. I practice both taichi and wing Chun this video is very enlightening. Thank you very much for making this video. God bless you 🙏🌺
Thanks, that's really interesting!. My style is mostly karate based. I've learned a little wing chun, but I tried tai chi and found the form movements too slow so I stopped it. There's only so much time so I try to work on what will be effective for me as a fighter as I get older.
Thanks for sharing this to show some of the differences between the two martial arts. But let me ask you this Wing Chun kid. Do you know the difference between iron palm Tiger or iron style to Wing Chun and of there is a better of two styles which one is it. Again thx. for this video.
lol, sounds like you probably don't know what you are asking about. There's Iron palm, there's tiger style kung fu, there's wing chun, but there's no "iron style". I know iron palm (training method, not a style), I know wing chun. I don't know tiger style kung fu. For you, I recommend sticking with wing chun, and I suggest Tai Chi - which will help your circulation, joints and tendons especially for your age. Unfortunately, it's even harder to find a good tai chi teacher than a good wing chun teacher.
Nice video! Taichi is so nice. It's kind of a generic version of many other martial arts, in this case, Wing Chun. Great explanation, thanks for sharing!
Very interesting, Thanks. I've never known any of this, it's never been explained to me like this. Of course all the masters/sensei/teachers think that if you're doing what they teach then why would you need to know anything else, they're stuff is THE STUFF.
Most Remarquable Video! Couldn't dream better one of this kind! Very Thanks For Sharing :D "You cannot generate any FORCE when you're OUT OF BALANCE." So True and not just in Martial Arts but In General Life :)
Sorry WCKid, but I dissagree with you in point. Wing Chun isn't designt to move around the opponent, its designt to go trough his defens to his center. If you would move around someones defens, than you'r leaving the centerline and open your self for attacks and get of balance. btw i study Wing Chun (WSL) for about 6 years now greetings from germany
Wing Chun and Tiaji use the same principle of Yin/Yang. Only thing different between them is the way they are trained. They both have short and long rang strategies. One can't have yin without the yang. I too am the disciple of both Wing Chun and Tiaji for many years. They compliment each other since they both came from white crane and snake principles. Where are you located? I am in Virginia. Thanks for making the videos.
"They compliment each other"... thank you :) that is what I was looking for. I've been practicing Tai Chi for some time, and I'm looking for some compliment extension
Tai Chi is great for exersise. In today's world wing chun is better, but only in trapping range. Unless you learn and train in the four fighting ranges (especially boxing range) you are dust in a street fight. I've been training in martial arts for 30 years (including wing chun, from a second generation Sifu from Ip Man). I also met Bruce Lee when I was a little kid, introduced to me from Bruce's veterinarian Dr. L. F. in Oakland.
Hi shifu I 16 year old and I want to learn kung fu which style do you recommend for a teenager like me tai chi, wing chun or sholin kung fu ?? Felling Curious
Hi I'm an asst instructor and I study wing chun (my dad is my Sifu and I'm 15 going to be 16 soon) it depends Wing chun isn't for everyone neither is tai chi or any style really the best thing to do is research and decide which you like best then try out a couple classes and see if the style is the right fit for you but overall those 3 styles are very good (im planning on evenualy studying tai chi and shaolin gung fu
Great video, my only complaint is the sound quality. Your voice is a little low and there's white noise. Otherwise, you made a lot of great comparisons.
Thank you for your informative video. 1) In what way is Tai Chi useful even when you're 80 - for self defense or just for health? 2) Are you saying that Wing Chun is not useful in old age? I am 50 and would like my investment to be long-lasting. :) 3) If I practice Wing Chun (mainly for self defense purposes), then which style of Tai Chi would complement it best? Thank you in advance!
+MisterBlueSky1000 It really depends what kind of tai chi and what kind of wing chun. If you are 80 years old, tai chi would most likely benefit your health more than wing chun. If you are 80 and have no martial arts training, neither styles will help you that much. But if you started training at 50 and trained until you're 80. 30 years of tai chi will be more useful to you for self defense since tai chi was designed to be used by old people to fight younger people.
+Wing Chun Kid - Tai Chi JKD Kung Fu I practise Taichi since 8 years old. I am now 32. I seriously don think Taichi is only for old people. It is for everyone. In fact. I believe martial arts has no age preference. Taichi is good for both health and self defense.
Finally some one speaking conceptually. Giving better understanding.
Very good analysis. I've studied Wing Chung for ten years and five styles of tai chi for fifteen and I couldn't have put it better. Thank you for posting it.
P LF Agree with you 👍💛

Marcus Keizer its called tuishou "pushing hands".

I love well thought out comparative lectures like this. Thanks!
The best explanation I've heard so far! Thank you!!!

good video though
This is so cool! Thanks for sharing!
Dope. Appreciate the knowledge bro
Very good video. I hope you will do a comparison between BaGua and Taiji too. Liked

The combination of the 2 is intense.

well wing chun isint blocking it's moving the energy and redirecting it. I practice Canton style Wing chun
I agree!!!! This guy takes Jeet Kune Do for wing chun.

Excellent! Thank You!
great analysis..thank you..seems tai chi is superior

I love your differentiation between the two Kung Fu. I was wondering if you could trap the enemy with the legs too as well as the arms?

I study modified wing chun. Now I know the differences between modified and traditional wing chun.

how about win chun vs wu shu
In other words tai chi cool 😎
I would quit high school for you to be my sensei because I want to master chi
WOW
Great video, my only complaint is the sound quality. Your voice is a little low and there's white noise. Otherwise, you made a lot of great comparisons.
Triangles are strong
I like Wing Chun and IP MAN (Donnie Yen)
LESS TALK MORE ACTION
then taichi better or wing chun better?
Each has it's strengths and weaknesses. Wing chun can be learned faster, but tai chi can be used even if you're 80 years old.
+Wing Chun Kid - Tai Chi JKD Kung Fu Well. Someone could say the contrary
Thank you for your informative video.
