- This example shows what gets fed into the computer from the film scan, and the result after digital processing.
EDIT: Heres a guide on how I did this:

About a year or so ago, I saw this video and did everything in my power to figure it out and learned the knowledge needed. Amazing work and thank you for the inspiration!
This video is just what I needed as I am about to convert hundreds of 8mm and super-8 for the 1950's and 60s. Your side by side was very dramatic and awesome to watch. Great music choice as well. Thank you so so so much!!
How are you doing this?
Wow! That's insanely good.
This is an awesome work!
Wow, that's s amazing restoration.
what price per minute do you charge for the same quality transfers [originals] as you show
Back in 1940 a company called Amateur Service Productions made a film of my hometown of Bellefonte, PA. You can tell it was definitely Amateur. It moved way too fast and flipped from scene to scene. It's long since been put on DVD and can be borrowed from the library. I got it and ripped it onto my computer and used ClipChamp to slow it down to normal speed. My question is, can it be restored from the dvd and without the original film? I'm sure the original film is long gone, but not 100% sure. I'll have to check into it.
This looks great man!
Amazing results! Would love to have your scripts. I've spent two weeks tinkering about with avisynth and scripts on my family's 16fps 8mm footage (1920x1080) and while I seem to be about 70% of where you are with end results, I'm struggling and tripping over the fine tuning. Mine still feel fuzzy and grainy. Hard to accept as is knowing it can be done better.

Spectacular work
Looks extremely nice. What software did you use to enhance?

Thanks for taking the time to do this video. I think the script part is very tricky, but results are amazing!
final result is clean looking but the interpolated frames make it look more like VT & not the original film. and as for the cropping ?
What happen with the car in 1:14?
What did you use to correct the images?
Perfection. May I roughly know your workflow? (subscribed) : )
wanna learn and try it, but. i cant run Virtualdub2 or avisynth+ after install 😅
Wow! You must have worked for weeks on this scan (frame by frame) to get rid of all that scratches and all the dust. It's even looks like you've painted some of the walls of the houses. I tried to do the same thing as you in Photoshop cc 2019 and I was pretty close...except I did not do the scratches and dust because it was just a test. I'm jut about to digitize my fathers (and my wifes fathers) old 8mm videos and is testing and testing to get the best result I can acchive. Will buy a digital scanner ( Wolverine or Reflecta) to do the basic work - but then the most important job is left to do...restoration.
Do you mind telling me/us how you did this remarkable piece of work and what software was used??
scan at 2k, used Neat video plugin for noise and dust removal. Avisynth 8mm "Fred's filter" for cleanup. Used SVP plugin for avisynth instead of Fred's for interpolation, modified Fred's filter to use Autoadjust instead of autolevels as autolevels created weird dithering and a plugin called HDRAGC for avisyth as well as a combination of a contrastmask and highlight reduction plugin for a slight "hdr" effect.
Thanks for a very nice answer. I Will continue to look into this with your workflow in mind :)

Cool! Thanks for sharing! Love it!
Wow for sure!!!
I think the 60 FPS look quite unusual, otherwise very good!
Ah why’d u have to go an use 60fps ai? The framerate was fine the way it was.
where do you get the music from please? I have silent cine films id like to add some nice music to. cheers
This is a recording of song "All of Me" I do not know who plays the music in this video. Hope this helps.
The movements look weird with the 60 fps upscaling. It's too, videolized.
Why the hell did you use smoothing on the restored version?
my goal is to try and connect the mindset of todays culture with the past. To make it as realistic looking like you are actually there. Like bringing the past to life. This is not an art film to my family, its their deceased relatives that they have seen in real life with their own eyes and want to relive that experience.
Is this on 60fps, this is so smooth. Anyway, this is very cool 😉
as i like it, not a single phone in sight
Details on the program/plugins please!
Is this legit? Or did he take a current video and make it look old?
@@nethang123 Looks legit. All of the cars, including passing cars and the neighbors cars are vintage vehicles. The bikes and toys are vintage too.

can someone tell me about a program to restore videos or something similar I need for a project thanks.
Download virtualdub and search Google for free virtualdub plugins
Nice except artifacts at the edge of more quick moving subjects.
dear god that's insane. is it possible to ship my childhood rolls? my father was a damn bad bad cameraman….
You can ship your reels to the place I get them processed. Digitaltreasures.ca. but they don't do the digital restoration I do. However we can coordinate with them that I can work on the digital files and send them back to you
incredible except for the fast moving parts it breaks there :S
The frame interpolation is bloody awful but everything else very very nice indeed
There is a new frame interpolation script that uses AI Deep learning thats a LOT better, im going to try it out next.
@@robmausser Dear Rob, I am really amazed by your work. Really excellent. In addition, I request your advice please. I have NO experience in the field of digital movies and restoration. But, I am doing a historical research where I have to watch and analyze many old film fragments. Those film fragments are already digitalized and they are in common formats like MP4, avi and so on. Most of the time, the resolutions are so low that I can't distinguish much on those films. I need to enhance and restore those fragments but I am absolutely a beginner in this field. I couldn't find any related book or tutorial on the Amazon. I need to educate myself (I have neither the time nor the money to go to a course/ follow any study program) but I don't know where to begin and how. Will you kindly give me some instruction? Where should I begin? and what should I do? What specifically should I learn? Which softwares should I obtain and learn to use?
My most profound thanks in advance;
(BTW, I think there are many people here who have the same problem and they should benefit either from your answer.)
@@88237636724Jj for low resolution digital video for which there is no alternative versions of high quality I would suggest this topazlabs.com/video-enhance-ai/
@@robmausser Many many thanks for your prompt answer. Is there also a tutorial for this software? Is it hard to work with this software? Should I learn some coding?
Again, many thanks in advance!
@@88237636724Jj This software is not hard, just choose the option for low resolution, called Artemis-LQ under AI models. Dont expect miracles. Low resolution digital video is MUCH different than rescanning film and interpolating the image. do the TRIAL before you buy, to see if its worth it
waxy ai mess
you don't have the rights to this music!!!
AI FPS sucks
