I was lucky enough to be in attendance to see this amazing solo. My friends and I always looked forward to seeing Talas perform live. Most bass players don't like or understand this kind of playing but Billy took bass playing to a entirely new level while stressing basic fundamentals in his interviews. Billy is definitely one of the greatest rock bassists' of all time.
I was born in 1987. Live in Buffalo for 7yrs starting 2007. I can ONLY dream of seeing Billy playing at this time. I cannot agree more. Im not even a bass player LOL
Ah-ight... I got lucky and caught Talas, opening for Yngwie Malmsteen... What other act blew my brain out that night.... It was a pretty good year... San Jose crowds SUCK!!!! they did back then anyway.... But dang... this solo made me look into what ever that "Billy Sheehan guy" was...
Well on the one hand, it IS just strings and frets and distortions so you’re not wrong, BUT when you factor in the lack of a pick and the girth of those strings and the scale of the neck and all of the other little things, Billy was (and still is) absolutely unique in his approach to the instrument. It’s also easy to not be floored by performances like this with 40 years in between the night it was filmed and today. NO ONE else was doing this then. And four decades later, there aren’t many who could come close to pulling it off now.
